We have sieges, Zombies vs. Villagers right? Then we have the Iron Golems, that stand in the zombie's ways of trying to eat the poor defenseless villagers. However, the zombie is the only one that will fight the Villagers, and will probably get destroyed. They are the close combat type. Now Zombies should not be the only one to chase after villagers. Why not have the skeletons do it as well?
They are equipped with a bow, and will shoot any target down until the Villager either hides in a house, or gets shot to death. It would only make sense because skeletons are humanoid figures that were once just like them. Zombies only possess one more step to become a skeleton, by ripping off the remaining flesh. Because they had the feeling of killing Villagers before, they should be letting that feeling out, and the only way for that to happen, is to kill the Villagers.
Now this would make an unfair advantage. Skeletons are shooting the poor Villagers, and the Iron Golems can now take damage from the arrows, and will eventually die (Even though this process will take quite a while), and lets not also forget that zombies still chase them, and in 1.4, even worse case scenarios, like infections and all that.
So I have decided a way to make this balanced, or at least I think I made a way.
Lets think of the requirements here shall we?
-Cannot be the Green Villager.
-Can't be Op.
-Can't take the job of Iron Golems away, or not completely.
-Cannot be a Villager, as villagers do not have the role of fighting.
-Must be able to fend off hostile mobs with ease.
-Cannot spawn like a maniac.
-Must have some resemblance of the Villagers.
Okay, so we got a lot going here. Now I decided that because Skeletons are a ranged mob, I decided that it is only fair that the defense gets another ranged mob as well. So I decided, Pigmen, with Iron Helmet and Chestplate, and a bow and awrrow!
Okay, why on Earth did I choose Pigmen?
Because if you look in the Nether, you see they are armed with a Golden Sword, and if you don't have armor, you're finished, not to mention the swarm of Zombie Pigmen after you hit one. If you think logically for a second, pigmen must be zombified in order to become zombies. Where do you find zombies? In the Over-World! It would make sense, because zombies can zombify them if they get defeated. Although the Villagers aren't anything relevant to the Pigmen, it would only make sense due to the basic logic here.
-They will have an Iron Helmet and Chestplate.
-Their armor plate points are higher then normal, they will take only a half a heart of damage on Easy, but 1.5 Hearts on hard.
-They will arm the bow and arrow, and will take approximately 3 seconds to recharge.
Easy, 3.5 Hearts. Medium, 4 Hearts. Hard, 4.5 Hearts.
-Spawn when there are at least 3 Villagers around, with 2 doors.
-Will have the same aim as Snow Golems, but a little more accurate (2 out of 3 arrows are bound to hit).
-When there are multiple around, they will line up like the Snow Golem. If they are separate from each other, then they'll try to get higher elevation.
-If defeated by zombie (and zombie only!), it will have the same percentage of turning into a zombie Pigmen, and will hunt down Villagers. Only that specific one! If there are more spawned through spawn eggs, they will not attack Villagers.
I would like your opinions on this. I have accidently rushed this, and will work on it soon.
Now Zombies should not be the only one to chase after villagers. Why not have the skeletons do it as well?
I think this could be a problem. What can a villager do when being chased by a skeleton? It's just like being attacked by a zombie, except repeatedly. Harder to escape. The zombies can already break down doors, and can be a bit overwhelming if there's enough of them.
Zombies only possess one more step to become a skeleton, by ripping off the remaining flesh. Because they had the feeling of killing Villagers before...
Just because they're all bones now, doesn't mean they were summoned when they had flesh.
...and the Iron Golems can now take damage from the arrows, and will eventually die...
I've seen an iron golem knock a skeleton on a rooftop, and the skeleton shot him a few times before I killed it. Looked like the golem took some damage.

I don't think we need them, because I don't think we need skeletons to attack the villagers in the first place, along with what I said below. The golems and the player are good enough for now. Maybe Minecraft could add pigmen later, but not now. If only we had more humans...
If you think logically for a second, pigmen must be zombified in order to become zombies. Where do you find zombies?
Logically, I notice that zombie pigmen are basically cursed pigs. (Not sure where they got the loincloths from, but thank goodness for that.) Sort of like all the R rated zombie games that you might occasionally hear about.
I'm a little confused here, are the Pigmen among the normal Villagers? If that's the case, I think that'd be a very awkward addition - seeing these Pigmen among the human cross-armed Villagers. It makes perfect sense though, where normal Pigmen become Zombie Pigmen when zombified, but I still think the addition of living Pigmen shouldn't be there.
I'll be up front with why I don't support the Pigmen. I thought the Zombie Pigmen were strange as hell, but they fit the Nether perfectly, and also fit with Minecraft's array of strange mobs. I think adding the living Pigmen now would just be a cheap copy, and they never seemed that interesting either. Not to mention people suggest them so many times that it gets painfully old. Maybe Mojang might come along one day, give us living Pigmen and make them badass, but not as Village aides.
On to the next part, the Skeletons. The Villagers have it pretty rough as is with the zombies, so the need to program Skeletons to attack Villagers isn't really there. The idea causes more pointless things to be made just to balance it, being the Pigmen part. An addition like this would just cause an insanely large cluster of battle in Villages.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
Hmmm... Maybe just having skeletons attacking villagers would be more simple. Maybe add skeleton testificates, when a villager gets killed by a skeleton, it turns into one.

Nah, it shouldn't do that. We should just stick to zombies doing that. It would make sense.

Exactly the point. But nowadays, you got Iron Golems on your side. They can't break into the doors, leaving zombies to do that. Breaking the doors is the problem. once they do that, the Villagers are then toast. But they got Iron Golems to do take them down. Skeletons can't break down the doors, so they won't be a threat unless they're out in the wild.
I guess you got a point. But having a villager defend the place isn't right... I thought that Pigmen were once going to populate the Villages, but were replaced with Villagers. So I thought, we needed a ranged ally mob that can take enemies down from a distance. Pigmen carried a sword, so thats where I got the idea. I can see you're point though.

Remember, hostiles only spawn in the dark. I didn't say skeletons can break doors. But sure, they're toast when they're out in the open.
Just because they're all bones now, doesn't mean they were summoned when they had flesh.
They had to come from somewhere, and they are humanoid. I took this under consideration.

Ok... You're point is?
1. I haven't seen one yet, but what's wrong with them? It's just that Villager's are to be the people to be protected. Not to attack. There will be another use for Green Villagers.
2. What's OP? The mob.
3. Why would they do that? So they can't actually take the role of Iron Golem and throw it out through the window.
4. Who can't be a villager? The mob.
5. The villagers? No, the mob.
6. Who can't spawn like a maniac? The mob.

No. Zombies are already enough to decimate a village. Iron golems rarely spawn in newly generated villages, and unless you have either closed the villagers in or lit the place up before nightfall, that village is going to be destroyed right away. Adding skeletons as villager enemies would just guarantee that demise.

Most definitely no for me. Defending villagers is hard enough as it is, having 2 mobs attacking them pretty much eliminate any chance they have of survival. Zombie sieges are bothersome because a mass of zombies can spawn anywhere in the village, even in houses(Though there is currently an error preventing sieges at the present). Skeletons have ranged attacks, that can be hard to dodge, especially for a defenseless mob such as a villager. Skeletons are notorious for friendly fire, and will end up shooting other skeletons and zombies, just adding more chaos. As a person who spends a LOT of Minecraft time in villages, I can say having skeletons attack villagers would make their survival rate drop heavily, and it's already low enough because villagers do not have a good enough AI to aid their survival, that combined with villages spawning in hazardous conditions...
why can't there be just zombies attacking villagers? isn't it enough for them already with zombies? if skelitons attack them, well, what could they do? they would just die
How about a slime golem made with slime blocks? It would be immune to arrow damage and have 30 health. A village always starts with 1 slime golem. An additional slime golem is spawned for every 8 villagers. If a village slime golem dies, a new one will spawn the next Minecraft day. Slime golems can be created like a snow golem, but with slime blocks instead of snow blocks.
They are equipped with a bow, and will shoot any target down until the Villager either hides in a house, or gets shot to death.
