Alright, so heres the deal. We used to have the Instant Damage potion which caused about 4 or so hearts to everything, right? Right.
But now the Instant Damage potions only hurt non-"undead" mobs; when used on an undead mob (example, Skeleton or Zombie), they only heal them. Therefore the only way to cause damage to these mobs (through use of potions) are potions of healing.
I'm sure I'm not the only map-maker out there that wants to give their players a splash potion that can harm a horde of zombies for example, but most of the time we cannot since the healing effect heals the player. We don't want to heal the player, we only want to hurt the zombies (or skeletons) with no additional effects to anything or anyone.
This is why I propose to change the Instant-Damage potion back to a potion that can damage any type of mob without exceptions. If everyone is already content with the current Instant-Damage system (Heals undead, hurts everything else), then why don't we add in a new potion (Potion of Necrosis)? One new potion, along with the couple more that are being added in the future updates. This new potion would act basically like the current Instant-Damage, healing undead and hurting everything else. It shouldn't be too expensive to brew, and would function exactly like Instant-Damage now.
Possible Brewing Recipe for the proposed Potion of Necrosis (Heals undead, harms everything else):
Well, currently, there are three ways to make a potion of harming (instant damage). 1. Awkward Potion + Pufferfish = Water Breathing, + Fermented Spider Eye = Harming.
2. Awkward Potion + Glistering Melon = Healing, + Fermented Spider Eye = Harming.
3. Awkward Potion + Spider Eye = Poison, + Fermented Spider Eye = Harming.
What if we decide to take the third recipe, Awkward Potion + Spider Eye + Fermented Spider Eye, and change it to a Potion of Necrosis?
It makes sense for Instant-Damage to be an all-around damage potion, hurting everything. What relation does damage and undead have? Even if you say that undead are immune to damage, or immortal as if they can't take damage, then I'll say that "apparently we can beat them to death with our fists"; because in Minecraft, we can. However, necrosis wouldn't effect the already-necrotic Undead as much as it would living beings (Steves, Sheep, Squids, whatnot). In fact, it should heal the undead mobs. See a relation to the current Potion of Harming?
The reason I choose Awkward Potion + Spider Eye + Fermented Spider Eye is because poison and necrosis are closely related (poison is a Damage Over Time effect, while Necrosis would function as a Instant Damage effect). Or, since this suggestion thread is based solely off the purpose of benefiting map makers (as hopefully this wouldn't make too much of an impact on the game), maybe the potion shouldn't have a crafting recipe at all? Maybe it could only be available through /give commands, or the creative inventory (similar to the current level 2 Regen, Swiftness, Poison, and Strength potions which cannot be brewed; level 1 is brew able.)
I'll put a poll up so you all can give your input through that. Again, its only one potion and it should hopefully benefit map-makers, with the option of being brewed (with the above recipe, or, if you have a better one, please suggest!). Again, with this suggestion, the Potion of Instant Damage (Harming) should be changed to an all-around damage potion instead of healing/hurting certain types of mobs. This way we'll have three main damage/healing potions:
Potion of Healing; which hurts undead and heals everything else. Potion of Instant Damage; which hurts everything.
Potion of Necrosis; which heals undead and hurts everything else.
===== EDIT: Stats. The potion of Necrosis, like mentioned a billion times before, would act the same as the current Potion of Harming (heals undead, harms else), while the Potion of Harming would become an all-around damage potion. However, as suggested by AMPPL50, the potions of Necrosis would deal more damage to players, making them a valuable option for players who actually brew potions as well. Maybe instead of dealing 6 damage, the potion of Necrosis would deal 8 or 10 damage. (10 Might be OP, though.) Also, it would be softened by armour, similar to the current Instant Damage (I think?).

Nah , I say keep it like it is , but an acid potion ( brewed with acid , maybe a new fluid ) that can turn mobs into skeleton versions and harm them ( zombies to skeletons without bows etc )
Being a nerd is nothing to be ashamed of. Nerds rule the world! Who invented the internet? Nerds. Who created personal computers and smart phones? Nerds. Who made every video game you've ever played and ever will? Still nerds. Who sent probes to distant planets? Nerds, nerds and more nerds! I'm a nerd and I'm proud.

Isn't that the exact same, but with a new Potion of Instant Damage?
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 99% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 1% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
Isn't that the exact same, but with a new Potion of Instant Damage?
Sort of. The current Potion of Instant Damage would be changed to allow it to damage everything, so for example, instead of using a healing potion (which ends up healing yourself), you would use the *modified* Potion of Instant Damage to damage it with no additional effects to anything.
The potion of Necrosis would simply take over the role of what the Potion of Instant Damage does now, giving more variety to players and mapmakers.
So, what would be the point in brewing them if potions of instant damage can damage everything? I guess that there is hardly a point in brewing the potions of Necrosis, so their effect probabily would be more powerful.
Yeah, making it more powerful is actually a better idea. But thats if this potion should become brew able, if not, it could just be a /give command item.

I need my beautiful little egg to grow up, so please, feed it those tasty clicks! Also, regarding the adults, they'll click you.
Necrosis needs to be more effective than Harming on things it deals damage to, otherwise everyone would use Harming instead.
I edited the main post to that extent, however it could be an unbrewable potion that admins or people in creative could use, etc, similar to the Strength, Swiftness, Regeneration, and Poison level 2 potions. But yeah, it'll do a bit more damage now.
