As many may have noticed, almost every update to the game requires you to explore farther to find the changes. To me and probably alot of people this is a problem. I try to restrict myself to exploring only so far so when an update comes I wouldn't have to start over, if not start over go exploring in an area hr or so away.
I was thinking wouldn't it be nice to be able to select a certain area of a map to stay the same and reload the seed for the rest of the map. Maybe even do this multiple times.
When 1.8 came out I decided, this is time for a fresh start, let me reset the map since we're getting ravines, towns, mine shafts, and strongholds. How can I enjoy all of this if I'm still sitting in my old 1.4 town and building up. Yes I know I could've used a map editor and copy my structures, but most of these structures are specifically made because of how the land was shaped. I mean I had an underground secret bunker that matched up with the land scape, one building was placed on an island as a resort. Then there was the fact if I did stay I would have 20 day journeys in the wilderness to find new lands.(BTW this is my server not SSP)
This all could be an easy fix if there were some way to maybe select certain areas to stay the way they are and reset/update the rest of that seed. Im already planning on copying all the structures and reseting the seeds using a map editor but that is a painfully difficult task with all that is built and I fear that I may forget to carry over something or misplace a structure. So I was thinking an easier solution would be to have someway in game to do this and maybe auto backup of the world before doing so.
