Your last few things weren't even building related, though I understand we lacked building blocks (Why didn't we get end stone brick whatever stairs/slabs?)
Mojang is known for that, though, only adding the block and not thinking about how nice stairs and slabs are, though. Oh well. At least we got some new blocks, I guess. I'm sure their uses will come out eventually.
I'm with you on this. This combat system has really torn into my enjoyment of the game. What happened to the Craft part of the game? Seriously. I am not that good of a fighter to begin with and for me, playing on a Server that is on hard, was challenging enough when searching mines and caverns for goodies, but now? I might as well just dig straight through solid rock and hope to stumble on goodies. This hitting something and staying only at three hearts down while I'm dancing down to a half heart? Not cool. It's like my armor doesn't even count anymore.
Please, oh please Mojang don't continue on this trend of turning this into BattleCraft (Actually more like just battle, who can craft when an arrow to the knee kills you?) instead of MineCraft. Please? Bring us some wonderful new building materials, more stairs, more slabs, more ways of using the materials we already have. And major ditto on the clay slabs!!
As for those pink blocks? I dunno, maybe they're going for a princess build? XD With fluffy unicorns and and a magical wand you can make with the nether star and everything can be pink sunshine and fru fru's can't be any worse than this combat mode. Seriously.

There's nothing wrong with these. The slab thing is just a feature that didn't happen, doesn't make it bad. The end rods are just pointless, like bats or rabbits. (Although, I could see them potentially being used as parkour tools.)
I don't even know what you were saying about the dragon egg thing. I didn't know you could respawn him.
Then the shield thing. They removed block hit in 1.8 so they're probably keeping it that way in 1.9. No big deal.
The mending thing is fine. It's just a way to get an enchantment. No big deal.
I've summarized 1.9 as Mojang's attempt to turn Minecraft into a first person shooter.
Really frustrated by the lack of building materials. You would think its dead simple to model the blocks by creating a single shape, and then having the code "skin" them accordingly, making ANY shape skinnable -- you could have blocks, stairs, rails, fences etc made of any texture. Imagine the possibilities, and the code would be SMALLER since you wouldn't need to create different blocks for every single instance.
My problem with all the people who dont like 1.9 is that they look at it the wrong way. In real life, you cant just twidle ur sword around and expect to do the same damage as a full swing. Second, The shield is meant to cover ur whole body, if you could swing at the same time, then you could get shot and the shield is useless, Third, this update is meant to make it more of a challange to fight mobs. Fourth, if you want to change something then make a mod and change it urself. Fifth, in real life you need two hands to pull a bow, so explain to me how you are supposed to block your whole body with a shield and pull a bow and do decent damage, YOU CANT. 1.9 is made to give a different feel to minecraft. You asked for different PVP, you got it, You asked for more to the End, This is my opinion and is not meant to offend anyone else. I was just getting annoyed with a lot of people. I love the minecraft community but I dont like complainers. sorry if i offend TY

Colored Clay Stairs? Easy. Carpenter's Blocks until your face falls off.
End Rod? The "pink thing" is the Purpur block. It is spawned in End Cities on purpur blocks and blends in with it. It was never meant for tables, just like the fences.
Purpur and Endstone Bricks? They match together perfectly for end based builds. It could also look good with quartz or stained glass.
Sword and Shield? Do you really think, that you can block your body and attack without problems? If you did that in real life, you would either hit the shield or expose your body to a single arrow that can kill you. You want to use both, make a hole in a shield and put a sword through it so the handle stays on your side of the shield.
Bow and Shield? Since WHEN can you use a bow with ONE HAND? Not even Robing Hood or Green Arrow can do that.
Enchantments? Like Weegee said, you can find them wherever you find other ones.
Them 1.9 haters, never try to search their points...
Valid points if it wasn't for the fact that Minecraft in of itself isn't exactly a realistic sim. I mean, seriously. So comparing it to RL is just a little lame. And not everyone asked for or wanted a different PVP. There are a number, myself included who do not play for the PVP, or we play on servers where the PVP is minimal. And I don't care if the PVP lovers love it. That's great, I'm glad they do. But your hyper-defensive attack of an answer isn't valid. Not everyone wants to make a mod, not everyone wants to leave the servers they are playing on. We want to go on enjoying building. Personally, I can take your argument and say if you want better fighting, find a different game and stop complaining about lack of better PVP. K? Thanks. But no, that's not what I'm saying either. I'm saying that keep MineCraft in the spirit that it was, or perhaps maybe we do need a MineCraft 2. Just watched the last part of the video, the guy begs for changes in Nether. People acted the same with The End. That is why Ganny's End Mod was made, to add changes to it! And now, when changes are made, you all hate them. Warn me for this, but I see that more than 50% of Minecraft community are grumpy bastards that cannot even be pleased. If I ever leave Minecraft, they will be the reason. God, you should have added more reason into our brain before saying "Done"!

i love the new end mate, they did a great job. but as a builder, this update really doesnt do much for me. personally, ive always felt the nether was empty.

Well, here are some friendly tips for you:
1. Downgrade to 1.8 and use some of the mods below
2. Chisel 2, Carpenter's Blocks, Biomes o' Plenty
3 If you ever want to build a Zoo or a Terrarium, use Mo' Creatures mod
I myself would like more building blocks. And I thing Purpur should get a retexture, make to make it somewhat darker like obsidian. Actually, the whole End City would look better with Chisel 2's obsidian variations.

Then we don't get the bugfixes from 1.9, and are stuck with things like boats that break if you breathe too heavy. It's not an ideal solution because Mojang created a big problem for builders.
The problem with Mojang is that they are (a) antisocial and (b) millionaires. See George Lucas for an example of this. They are so rich they can ignore their customers' feedback and justify it by rolling in their money. They turned MC into their own coding playground, and don't care how badly they make things for anyone, since they already have so much money it doesn't matter. So things will only get worse until an actual professional team of coders comes in and rehauls the game, probably starting with dumping Java entirely; which is unlikely to ever happen at this point. MS is (I suspect) terrified of the tweetstorm they'd suffer from Jeb or Dinnerbone if they fired them.

It all began to fall apart when they combined single and multiplayer...
No single player needs any of this fighting crap!!!
To a single player mobs are little more than an annoyance that interrupts your build/explore.
I couldn't care less about fighting some ^&%@$ entity; I'm too busy stripping goodies out of mines or exploring MY world.
If you want to stand toe to toe and hammer on someone or something, more power to you...
I don't want to; and you/Mojang shouldn't ram it down my throat or up anything either!
Nor should I be able to deprive you of what you enjoy.
Split them back apart... I think Notch separated them for a reason that the current leadership doesn't understand.

The current situation wasn't caused by Microsoft IMO.
I'l wager they're to busy counting their returns to worry about what the current leadership is doing.
They'll only become interested if sales/participation falls off drastically.
