Rotarycraft has a number of things for working with water, including HydroKinetic Engines that provide power from water flowing down from source blocks. It assumes vanilla water mechanics.
Realistic Fluids Overhaul is a mod that gives finite, flowing water. Source blocks will turn into flowing, and will flow down.
Rotarycraft has pumps. Pumps can toss water back up to a holding tank.
Can all of these be combined together to make a working hydro engine?
Part 1 -- Last week -- my first attempt to merge these together (was a live stream, sorry it's washed out):
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't think you ever actually generated hydro power using finite water in the two videos you posted. It seemed like water would fall on the turbine but no power was generated - which is also my experience. Did you ever manage to get that to work?
I have improved the performance of flowing water, but my attempt to get a release out on the 25th failed because I could not actually get what I compiled to match what my sources said -- debugging spam that was commented out was printing, and line numbers did not match.
It's time to get back to this. Somewhere, Eclipse or Gradle must have something cached that isn't being cleaned out by selecting project -> clean from the Eclipse menu.

Gotcha. I hate it when a build system's 'clean' target is actually dirty lies.
Anyway, I'm watching this eagerly - busted fluid mechanics have always been the worst of the 'simplified' physics that Minecraft does.
And sorry, but a few more questions:
* What does it take to add more fluids to Realistic Fluids - like oil from BuildCraft, or the bacterial sludge from GalactiCraft? I thought oil was already supported, but it doesn't seem to be finite in your latest build. From the code, it looks like each new fluid would need a subclass of BlockFiniteLiquid?
* What happens when two fluids mix that don't turn into blocks on contact like water and lava? If say oil were supported, would it float on top of the water? Do liquids in Minecraft have densities?
* Which machine/tech mod currently handle finite water the best? RotaryCraft only partially interacts with it (as discussed above), and if I recall BuildCraft pumps don't actually decrease fluid levels in the supply they're operating on.
No rush for response - I realize you're a busy guy and I've just thrown a wall of text at you. Thanks for working on this mod! Do you and/or the original author have any sort of donations set up?

Is compatibility between RotaryCraft and Realistic Fluids something you and/or Reika are actively working on?

Curse PremiumI am working on improving Flowing fluids.
The compatibility was as simple as lowering the search range for the liquid spiller -- a config file option -- to 1.

Curse PremiumNot yet.
I have not yet gone back for attempt #3.

Curse PremiumAdding more liquids:
4Head's re-write takes two lines per fluid you want to add.
For this version, it's impossible -- the assumptions are hard-coded.
You might want to ask questions at http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/wip-mods/2158282-realistic-fluids-overhaul-finite-water-and-stuff/unread -- that will get 4Head's attention as well.
