Hello, I have a very small you tube channel that I usually put out a couple of videos a week on. Unfortunately my last few videos have not been getting any views, which is very sad as I enjoy making the them, but I'd like it if I could attract more people to my channel.
I'd be very appreciative if people could check out my videos and channel and give me some feedback or advice on anything I could improve.
I understand my early videos probably were not the best, but I think I have improved with my later videos, anyway, let me know what you think.
I dont know how many views your expecting to get, and im not going to assume an amount, but your making Minecraft videos my friend, theres alot of BIG fish in this pixely(cant believe thats not a word) water. But dont fret, eventually people will find your channel and youll start getting more views and such, you could consider playing a different game, maybe one that dosnt have too many big channels that play it but has a decent following, that way you could gain some viewers and then go back to minecraft(not saying you have to stop playing minecraft) and then youll get more views on those videos.
i know this was a big load of info, hope some of it helps!!
P.S. Uploading Daily is the key to having a good channel.
Yeah, I understand that I'm a very small fish in a very big pond! I do have some variety in the games that I play, however the most recent ones have been minecraft. I do want to find other games to play, just having a hard time finding something that I enjoy playing and that would make a good video.
Oh, MonsterKirby thanks for the invite, but I'm holding off on joining a server until I get a more powerful computer. I was part of the Blockception server, but due to unplayable levels of lag, I had to stop playing. But that is something I do want to do at a later date.
As for the number of views I want, just some would be nice! Most of my videos get a few views but it's just the last 2 or 3 weeks worth haven't got any at all.
Anyway, I'm going to keep at it and hopefully it will get better.
Ok so just a few things to note just from 30 seconds of looking at your channel.
1- Better Thumbnails. While your thumbnails are not terrible or as bad as others I have seen they are very well just blah there is nothing there to really scream WATCH ME! Same kind of goes for you channel art you need something to catch the viewers eye when they come across your channel.
2- Video Description. Just in the few videos I checked you pretty much had no description of your video. It always helps when using mods to say what mods your using and put a link to the mod so that when people search that mod there is a better chance they see your video.
3- About Section. Once again you need to fill this out talk a little about your self the games you play the mods you use try to use word like Minecraft a lot because the about section helps new people find your videos.
4- Video Tags. Just from the top 3 post I made I'm going to assume you are not properly tagging your videos either. Make sure to tag your videos each and every one of them with keywords about the video like the mod you're using or that it's minecraft and don't be ashamed to put bigger youtubers in your tags every small youtuber does it.
5- Video Quality. From the few videos I watched your quality was pretty good so no major comment there.
6- Audio Quality. Audio was well not terrible but I couldn't watch more than 30 seconds of the video because of all the white noise in your video. Download Audacity it will be your best friend when it comes to audio. You can record in audacity or at least use the noise removal function to clear your audio up.
7- Commentary- I have seen much worse for commentary but just in the minute or so of videos that I watched there are a lot of times where you go quite for a few seconds. This is something most new youtubers or solo youtubers (including myself) have issues with is keeping your mouth moving and the words flowing. When you continually go quite for periods of time it makes your commentary grow stale just because of the lack of commentary.
Anyways I think these few tips will help you out a little. Feel free to check my channel out to see what I am talking about with some of these notes and please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions or concerns.
Hi DukeSliscus, I actually like your vids and think you do a good job with your commentary. It can be really hard to get started so you can use this time to improve your vids.
As IceMan mentioned the first thing I noticed was your thumbnails. These need to be a little better quality or just use a screenshot without any writing on them. Some big YT'ers do this and get away with it.
I didn't notice the white noise at first but once I realized it was there it was a little distracting.
Its all about presentation to be honest. I'm going to be blunt with you, from watching your latest video and only the first 30 seconds(since thats all the time most viewers give to judge you), its just blah. You have so many things that need to be improved upon to get a following. With that said:
First thing that needs to be improved upon is your energy level, no huge YouTuber uses the same attitude or energy in their gameplay videos as they do in real life. This doesn't mean that you have to be fake, just give 100% of yourself while recording.
Second thing, improve your thumbnails and titles! Try to make unique thumbnails for every video. I know its a lot of effort but when you have 20 videos with the same thumbnail, it screams boring. I'd highly suggest taking the free YouTube bootcamp or Creator Academy(in your YouTube creator studio/dashboard) on these and many more lessons. They are a world of knowledge for new YouTubers.
Third, collaborate w/ everyone and anyone. This will get your name out there and if you're everywhere, people can't help but find you.
Fourth, constantly try to improve yourself and your channel. I've been working with my gaming channel(my second youtube channel I have) for 11 months and have gone through many changes. I've completely redone my profile pictures 3 different times; constantly trying to outdo my last effort. I'm never 100% satisfied, always finding flaws. You have to put in work to get results. Either by paying someone to make your assets or doing it yourself by putting in all of that time into research or hundreds of tutorials. Even right now I'm in the middle of yet another overhaul of my channel. Everything on it is going to change, including the intro I made that I've used since the beginning.
I hope this has helped any and if you need any more help, just ask. I know what it feels like to start out feeling hopeless.
Hey guys, thanks for the input, I really do appreciate it.
As far as the audio quality goes, I didn't realise the white noise was so bad, so that is something I will address. I have downloaded Audacity and I did get a Blue snowball ice mic for Christmas, so the combination should hopefully improve the sound.
The thumbnails seem to be an issue as you all mentioned that, so that is something I will make sure to improve. Although having no real art type program or any computer graphics skill, I may struggle, but I'll figure something out.
The commentary, or rather the sections were my words fail me and the energy level is probably where I will struggle the most! I'm not a naturally talkative person and so this is a real challenge, I think I am improving but I guess it's getting over that self conscious thing and trying to put more enthusiasm into it with out sounding over the top or just annoying and fake.
So thanks again, and I'll try to implement your suggestions.
Like I said, if you need help, just hit me up on twitter or pm. I can point you in the right directions. Also, plenty of free programs out there and tons fo tutorials for everything that I do. If you watch enough of them or look at enough channels, its not hard to make good looking stuff. It just takes time to get there. Like I said, it won't just happen over night. You just need that want to constantly improve yourself. As far as the self conscious thing goes, you're probably doing the hardest type of recording, the solo. Even I have a hard time trying to do solo videos. I highly recommend recording with others, at least one other person to bounce off of. Once you're used to recording all of the time with them, it'll feel second nature. I'd also suggest streaming on twitch if you want to get used to people watching you. Thats a lot more nerve racking than recording since its live. Its a great way to get instant feedback on what people want to see and you can use it as a platform to gain attention to your channel. Hope this helped!
Gimp is the best free program for making thumbnails. It is basically like photo shop but without all the bells and whistles but it works great and is super easy to use. For player models download blander it is also free but not really easy to use or a program I would recommend in most cases. As far as making the thumbnail look good it takes practice. You can look at my thumbnails and see the progression from terrible to well not really to bad and it's all from practice and research. YouTube is your best friend there are videos on how to make thumbnails by the hundreds.
I'd be very appreciative if people could check out my videos and channel and give me some feedback or advice on anything I could improve.
