Very good guide! I've noticed all of these things in the YouTubers I watch. I'm also curious, besides networking, where are good places to post your new videos? So far I've only posted in the forums. I looked on the MC Reddit and there are requirements if you're going to post videos, namely that you need to contribute outside of those posts. I don't mind that really, it's just that the recording, editing and mostly off camera game play are really time consuming. I read a lot more than I post as well. Point being that in that case, between doing all of that and maintaining my work/family life, I'd rather stick to one community to contribute to (like this one =^) ). I don't think I'll be ready to network as well until I get my LP to a point where I have a lot to show off in the world so I could point someone to a video and say, "Here, check this out." Does that make sense, or should I not be worried about it? For sure I only have time for one survival LP. Anyway, I would love to hear about some of the places you can post about your videos besides the forums, and other tips for promoting your channel. I will try the networking and SMP thing at some point but I'd like to get to a point where I feel really good about my video quality first and have an established SSP world. That might be a bad move, but that's what I'm feeling at the moment.
Wow this is a really good tutorial, very detailed ( : my channel lacks a lot, I don't want to monetize...I probably should but I want to wait and see where my channel goes.
I still need to find some recording software, and I'm thinking of doing some different games as well.
I'm going to start applying these to my videos!! one big trouble i'm having is actually getting people to watch.! but in all due time!!
if you'd like to check the channel out Go to www.youtube.com/user/theneedlesswolf have a great day everyone.
NeedlessWolf I checked out your last video and you should try to improve the sound quality. The video and the audio is also out of sync at places. If you amend these then your vids would be more enjoyable
The advice you give is great. I agree. Being consistent is key and not giving up is also a major one. Ive been doing it for over a month and really enjoy it. I don't get a ton of views yet. But I refuse to give up, I'm too stubborn and like I said I enjoy it. So if it doesn't work out, No biggie. I'll keep posting anyway

Just a quick tip, if you want more subscribers, try to learn how to animate, and then do animations of videos you have currently made, such as other people who animate funny clips of youtubers' videos and put them into short cartoons.

BearKind, I would recommend adding a section about promotion. Some YTers post their videos on other website to help it get exposure. I only know of two places to post personally, but I'd love to hear about other places that are friendly to LPers posting their videos. The first is obviously here on the forums. The second is a newer community I discovered only recently but it has been helpful in exposing my videos and has helped my channel grow more quickly - that would be www.votable.com/minecraft - It is a friendly community with all sorts of content posted regularly in a news feed fashion. If you're still updating your guide, please consider adding this. And thank you for helping me get started! =^)
As other general advice I would also say to be prepared to make many videos with hardly any views. Expect your early videos to be terrible. Get through it. If you analyze your videos and compare them to the popular YTers, especially those who inspire you, you can figure out areas to improve upon. For example, in my earlier videos my voice is really deep and I spoke very slowly. That's because I was recording late at night. I was tired, and I sounded tired! Now I never do that. I also became more comfortable over time. After enough videos, if you continuously watch your videos and try to improve, you will develop a "YouTube Voice". When I record I try to be a little more energetic and upbeat, and just enjoy myself. Be picky as well. Don't be afraid to admit that your editing needs work. There are awesome tutorials out there for every program. Learn how to add smooth transitions, whether its a fancy transition or a simple fade transition - both are far better than a sudden jump in video. Consider adding background music if that suits the style you're going for. If you're doing an LP and building something, consider doing a time lapse! My goal was simply to improve one aspect of my editing per video, or maybe to do that one thing better or easier the next time around. After a while my editing skills had greatly improved! There are so many cool things you can add to your videos with the magic of decent editing. It's easy to learn, but difficult to master. It takes extra time to do, but the end product will be so much better! =^)

Also, I'm trying to form a recording group. I'd say thats a good way to help out your (and their) youtube channel.
