Alright, so. Thanks to Notsosophisticates, I've come up with a small idea that could be considerably helpful to ALL small YouTube channels, not just those that are part of the Minecraft phenomenon.
The idea is to create a network site for small-time youtubers. Some place that is a compendium of knowledge and helpful guides/others to help you gain the traction you need to become more successful. It's not a network'd channel, nor is it strictly a gaming community. It's something more, but for the small-time channels.
So let me explain it a bit more:
Most people want to make it 'large' on YouTube for some reason or another, but unless you do crazy marketing schemes (commenting on huge popular videos, making video responses to popular videos etc. etc.) you never really get anywhere.
So I've been reading and I've learned that it's easier and a lot more fun to do videos with another person, or a group of people. So my thoughts are, why not make a community based around small youtube channels. ANY channels, gaming, news, parodies, etc. And not limit it to communicate via Skype/MCF PMs, but give a place for us to list our channels and have a place for tips, tricks, hints, etc.
Just an idea. I think it'd be helpful and with enough people, it could be successful.
Anyone interested? Age/region/etc doesn't matter. Just a passion for video editing/YT/helping people is needed.
Hm... This sounds like it might be fun to do. Here's a little bit about myself:
I'm 14 years old.
I live in the Pacific Time Zone (California).
I am usually only available to play/record on most weekday evenings, Saturday mornings/afternoons, and Sunday evenings. (I can't garuntee that schedule every day, though.)
I have Skype. (Only on my iPhone.)

I don't know if me being only 14 would get in the way of anything, but if so, I understand.
Age is nothing, this tool would be used for ALL LP'ers and commentators, regardless of age. But I still need more people before I can really decide to do anything.
This actually looks like a decent idea. However I've seen other programs like this fail due to lack of support from the creators. It's not an easy task for you, so be sure you know what you're getting into before you start it.
If you do decide to start it, I would like to participate, if that's alright.

I'm well aware what it takes to make this work, and what it takes from myself in terms of support and dedication.
Sounds cool, bit I'm only 12 though. I live in Denmark, which means my time zone's EST (GMT + 01:00).
As I've said, there's no age restriction nor will there be a time zone requirement. This will be for ALL youtube channels out there, and EVERY content producer.
And thanks for the support guys, more to come soon.

What will you call it? I was actually considering doing something similar, but focused on specifically the gaming aspect of youtube (covering legal, technical, etc. advice)

Then I could really use you! I'm a huge fan and I know you know your stuff.
(Whilst I mention focusing on every aspect of Youtube, for now it'd be a main focus on gaming, since I'm obviously a gamer, and I'm posting here on MCF, just saying plans would be to increase to all aspects and find people who are proficient with them all)
I haven't really thought of a name yet, considering branding it with my presence online just to give some more love to the brand, but still not sure. If you have any ideas, PM me if you want.
I'm 14 (Sound older)

I'd recommend branding it in its own rights... as opposed to branding it in relation to your channel... this serves two fold:
- More likely to attract talent/knowledge base to it as a community-focused brand as opposed to an individual-focused brand.
- More likely to attract broader viewer-bases since it would feel like less of an 'advertising' situation if you avoid the brand-link.
The main dilemma in setting it up myself was the question of whether to make it a sub-community for the benefit of my viewers or a broad community for the benefit of the whole (the 'broad community' winning due to my personal philosophies) - each has their upsides and downsides, both for you and the community.
If this specific incarnation doesn't take off, it won't be an entirely dead concept, since I'll likely be funding my own project similar to this later this year (it's a backburner project right now while I get back into the swing of video production, since I was down for so long).
I should note, I'm more than willing to help moderate it, and participate in the forums where I find my help is needed - I just can't promise 100% of my attention on it just yet

I won't be branding it alongside my channel, sort of. It's more my channel is branded after my internet presence but I understand you completely.
I'm still brainstorming ideas as well as formulating ideas and such. Maybe one day when you aren't busy being awesome, or working (retail how I hate thee), we can spit ball some ideas and see what happens.
And I agree fully to the 'broad community' aspect, that was pretty much the goal of the project.
Now to figure out the name... Oh names how you evade me sometimes.
I Would love to get in on this.. SMalltime youtuber here. currently have over 90+ minutes of video to edit down and post with 6 videos already up
21 years old, Live in michigan, work 3rd shift mon-sat (ouch) but always willing to force myself out of bed to do some recording with cool people!
Here is a link to my youtube channel. give it a stop and check out what my buddy and i have done so far...
We should make a Skype group for discussing the project, and leave the thread for applications.
That's just it. There's no application process. It's just whoever wants or needs help, can ask. I'm still deciding on a name but once I get the name, I will start working on getting a base forum set up.

I voted for phpbb simply because it's free, and is going to be easier to maintain (there's other worthwhile free options, but phpbb also has the advantage of being notably widespread, giving access to a wider array of tools). - Later an upgrade to IPB may be appropriate (but you can still do a lot with phpbb for free regardless of which direction you choose).

I have absolutely nil experience with vanilla lol, the only forum softwares I've done any administrating/moderating with are IPB, phpBB, SMF, and vbulletin... at least in recent history.

I'm in the same boat, but I like the layout and presentation of vanilla. I'm still weighing my options. The hard part is coming up with the proper name for this haha.

All that's left for me to do is pick a name and a forum software to use. Please use the poll above to vote!
Once again, I look forward to working with all of you to make this a huge success!
