So I was hoping to start some sort of lets play with my friend. I have gotten a server up and all that jazz, except I have ran into some problems and can't figure out how to resolve them and Google wont show me a solution.
With everything up and running, I am trying to figure out how to record the gameplay... Well not only the gameplay, but audio would be awesome as well. We currently use skype to communicate.
What recording program should I be using to record everything? I have tried fraps and got the gameplay to record in good quality, but I'm not excited about the large files it makes. Also I'm not able to get my mic to record with fraps.
If some one out there can come to my aid and assist my in my troubles, I will be very thankful. Just spent too much time on the web with out a solution and I'm very hopeless now!
I record with fraps. Each section it records (not sure how long they are) are about 3.95gb. Which is big. But this is raw footage.
Basically I do the following:
Record in game sounds, video, and my skype partner all in *Fraps*.
My voice is recorded in *Audacity*
I use *Sony Vegas Pro 11* to put everything together (intros, raw footage, music and audio)
Then I edit both audio tracks in Audacity. Because your mic, your LP partners mic, and skype varies everything, I have seen a lot of vis where the person at the other end is significantly quieter than your voice.
I then put it all back together, do finishing touches to video and audio editing,
then render the whole thing. The final 10 minute (approx) video is about 380mb. This of course depends on the settings you use, I use custom settings for HD mixed with other bits.
Then I use youtube to upload it (I don't like the way vegas pro uploads to YT)
Basically if you want it to do your voice as well, you have to play around with the Fraps settings and other things. Lots of people also use Movie Maker (I can never figure movie maker out lol, I think the interface is too simple, it confuses me).
Having audio seperate also allows you to better edit individual details (background noises, amplifying one persons voice, dulling certan parts, editing out certain bits, as there is more "whitespace" in it to use (so selecting certain parts to amplify or alter in an all-in-one audio, can mean cutting off the other persons voice, or making your voice too loud, whilst theres is just audible etc).
Hopefully someone has the settings instructions you need (im only on my netbook right now)
