I used cracked Fraps (yes i dont have money for screen-recording software, sorry) for a day, tryed a few videos,it worked perfectly fine.Tomorrow, when i tried Fraps for second time,it just didnt work. When i click on it,the circle keeps spinning (Windows 7/Vista) for a while and then stops.Nothing happens. No error,no anything. It just doesnt do anything.
If i can get help from anyone,i will be so much grateful that you will get internet from me,and if you posses a youtube account, like your MC LP's if you have any and/or subscribe. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: It magically turned out to be working when i downloaded another version.Hurray!
I'm glad the issue was resolved. While I don't approve of pirated software, I do know that they frequently have problems. Getting another download from another source can help.

I learned #6 in specialised tips the hard way. Recorded 40 mins of footage including an exciting cave dive and near-death experience, and i forgot to turn my mic on.

It's expensive. and when i tried the trial i did not get impressed with how long it took to import movie clips either. it's got tons upon tons of features that the amateur movie maker probably wont know how to use. Nor need for that matter.
imho. for something like a fairly simple LP I think Windows movie maker (the live essentials version) is sufficient. it's got some nice auto features for making an intro with animated text and stuff. I just upgraded myself tho so I haven't actually tested it out properly yet. but hey. can't beat the price of free.
the older windows movie maker versions need external tools to allow for rendering in non standard formats like 1024/760 and such. that was quite annoying. but the live one allows you to make custom profiles from inside the menu system. much easier for those just trying to learn on their own.
I've never used Sony, but WMM works fine for my purposes. I've never had a problem with it lacking features for a basic LP. The only problem I've had frequently is a lack of multiple audio tracks, but there are work arounds for that.

a low end one will usually do. you do not need a super fancy (read expensive) headset. I'd insist on trying them out before buying tho. some of them makes for bad sound. there is no hard and fast rule tho. the primary concern is that the headset is comfortable to wear. and that the mic is easy to adjust and holds it's position.
Nothing is as annoying as loosing a recording trough the mic moving while talking.
the difference in quality is negligible unless you use super high resolution on your desktop.
Minecraft is rendered in your desktop res when in full screen mode. so lowering that to say 1024 will cause 1024 to be the perfect match. (no resize artifacts) That being said. lowering your desktop res or running minecraft windowed allows you to record the window natively in 720. if you do that then 1024 will start to look fuzzy. and indeed. 720 will look just as good as 1024 did when that was the best match.

Ok, So maybe my problem with quality is that I literally have my resolution up to max? I have a fairly powerful computer and a 24" monitor, so I generally run at like 1920 x 1080, I think, it is a widcreen but I might be at 1920 x 1200. I might try reducing my resolution to see if that helps. Note, the last vid I uploaded I did at 1080p but it doesn't look much better. Also, I noticed someone mentioning rendering res, that may be it too. I use Adobe Premiere, but I don't recall seeing an option to change the render res, I will have to look for that. I generally just add my effects in, then render at default, and upload to youtube in 1080p.

you should look into it yeah. you have to remember that YT will resize your video no matter what res you upload them in. most of the worst artifacts are usually from double resizes. that is the resolution has been resized 2 or more times. the more times it's re-rendered in a new size the worse the issues get. that's why you should always try to avoid any resize when editing locally. I'm certain that adobe do have a function for changing or adapting the render res to match the recorded res. even if it's something non standard. for example. I have a CRT so rendering in 720p HD for me ruins the clip. I have to use a custom that is slightly larger to get YT to show everything without getting black bars both on the top/bottom and left/right
Hey, skellington. It's aWarmPotato from Youtube and I somehow stumbled upon your thread. It's awesome, and I agree with everything, but one thing to add maybe? Have a timer, whether It's on your phone, or if its a stopwatch, it's really helpful!
For instance, when I'm recording, I use my iPod's stopwatch to make sure I'm not running out of time, since videos normally want to be under 15 minutes. Just thought I'd add that in. :biggrin.gif:

This is a trick for those who are too lazy to edit their videos. invariably even with a timer, mistakes in recording length will occur. Imho it's better to just record till you are done doing what you intended to do then edit it down or make a multi-part episode out of the clips.
The main reason for this is that otherwise you risk having lots of episodes where nothing really get's done.
Episodes like that are generally boring to watch. I've made quite a few like this myself I'm afraid. but even popular LP'ers like Coestar make some boring ones like that every now and then.
I've found that in order to ensure that at least some of the episode features some decent entertainment value one needs to record all the time. and then select the good parts for use in an episode.
Sometimes tho one have to show some of the not so exciting stuff. just to show people that the game is progressing even tho you just spent 4 hours digging a gigantic hole in the ground.
One thing one could do if that was all one did that episode is to show some ultra fast forward digging then talking about and showing how you like to build your steps/elevator shaft, whatever thingamajig you like to do to entertain yourself while digging gigantic holes in the ground. but showing several episodes of you just digging a hole is a big nono imho.

N.B: there is one thing that is bugging me greatly in many of the new LP's out there.
If you use music from someone else. Give due credit to the author of that music.
If you steal an idea for a construction project. give a shoutout to the one that you got the idea from. be it another LP or an image post on this forum. you may not need to link them in the description or anything. just say where you got the idea from. NEVER present something you copied partially or fully from someone else as if it was your own. it's a dishonest to do so and people will notice sooner or later.
If you do not know who's idea it is you are "borrowing" then admit so when making your comments when building it.
Another good point, I've added it as an addition to the previous part. I use a combination of the two personally. I record with my timer set to 15 minutes and then determine which parts I am going to fastforward while in the process of making the video. I let the timer run for another minute in assumption of the time it will take to get through the part and then resume time again afterwards. Basically, I subtract a minute for each of my fastforward segments, but keep time otherwise.

I have updated the main post a bit more with another tip on when to stop multi-part videos and updated the thread to V1.5 since it has been awhile since the last one and there has been a fair bit of updates since then.
