Hey, I'm posting here to try to get a speedier response. If I've customized my texture pack can I show it in my videos? It has various items from a few different packs, but nothing is edited from original work. I've tried getting permission from each creator, but I understand they are very busy and/ or may not be very active in the forums besides updating their work.

That's probably off topic. The best answer I can give you: It depends on the licenses of those texture packs, and the laws of your jurisdiction. In the USA, you can probably claim "fair use" to combine pieces from multiple packs, unless the pack actually says "You may not modify this pack". Elsewhere, I don't know.

Would someone like to look over 1 of my videos on YouTube and tell me the steps to get rid of my black border? I use Fraps to record and use Windows Movie Maker to edit. Username on Youtube is GamerKnoob.
well my friend and I are making a Lets play series, but we do not know how to gain the publicity, can you guys perhaps give me tips on how to gain views and subs, and maybe spread this around to your friends etc
A quick question, what should I use to "encode" my videos. Fraps videos generally seem to come out at 7 megabytes/second. Or about 4.5GB for 10 minutes of footage. Uploading that would take hours. I've been playing around with Windows Movie Maker, but it outputs pretty bad quality footage.
I've been playing around with some other software, but what would you recommend? NB: I've got plenty of horsepower so I don't have any issues with CPU expesnive software (especially if it scales well across cores).

Well, looking only at Youtube -- which explicitly recodes what you upload to controlled bitrates -- I will say this.
I compared some stuff (854x480 minecraft) that had been encoded at 2500 kbps, multiple pass, to stuff encoded at 7500 kpbs, single pass. The stuff downloaded from youtube that was 7500 single pass source was better than the 2500 multipass source.
Encoding was Mac Os's quicktime encoder.
So, basic rule: The more bits you throw, the better.
You make it clear that your limit is your upload speed and time of upload. So figure out from that how many bits you can afford for the time you have to upload, and work backwards.

I found a nice free one. It's called NCH Prism. The free version converts Fraps files fine (just do AVI->AVI) and leaves you with a high quality version (in my opinion it actually looks a tad nicer than the original).
848x480 (Default Minecraft window size). 7 seconds.
Before: 53 Megabytes
After: 1.53 Megabytes
1360x746 (Minecraft maximised on my 1366x768 screen). 40 seconds.
Before: 1110 Megabytes
After: 44.3 Megabytes
That's about 30x smaller, and yet the videos are still of good quality.
Oh, and for the love of god, when NCH installer asks you what extras you want untick everything.
what if there is people talking or a tv in the backround? can i lower the volume so that the computer only reaches my voice? this post is old so u wont respond

You will have to experiment and find out. There is no clear "hard and fast" rule.
The basic goal, if you cannot get rid of the background noise (TV, talking) is to reduce the microphone sensitivity to remove that, possibly adding in a background noise removal feature of either your recording software, or your processing software, or use a program that tunes what it picks up from the microphone to tune into your voice.
Another option is to use a headset microphone. Oddly, those tend to be worse than the computer's microphone -- so they have a shorter pickup range. That's partially by design -- a computer built-in mic has to be sensitive enough to pick up stuff at arms distance, a headset mic only has to pick up at about 4 inches.
For me, one tool that I use is "mumble" and "murmurd" -- mumble is a voice chat program designed to handle automatic volume control for speech, and I can turn my microphone down from the normal +11 setting down to -6, and Mumble still picks up my voice nicely. But with that much lowering, it gets rid of almost all the background noise from my house.

I have the option to start a new Survival serie (either flatcore or FTB). My computer however, isn't great. I can record at HD, but with some lag. But on the other hand, I can record at 480p, with almost no lag.
What would you rather watch? The HD one, but a bit laggy, or the 480p one, with almost no lag?
In my case, my screen cannot fit a 720p window, and my internet connection has trouble with 480p. So I normally watch 360p on youtube; a 720p series does not help me.
So in my case, a 480p, lag free series is better than a 720p laggy one.

i've got a question, you know that when creating a new world, there's an option to turn on or off the cheats. If i used cheats in the LP, is it bad? cause, i've got the twilight forest mod, waiting for updates and i'm going to make a survival series out of it along with two other mods which is the backpack mod and bibliocraft mod; and i'm worried if i cheat in the LP, will there be something like disappointment when somebody is viewing it.
This is a great thread, very helpful. I just got my youtube account and hope to make some lets plays and other Mc videos in the future so thank you for all this advice.
Don't forget the free BB Flashback Express recorder. It's free, and it seems to work pretty well on my computer. It's what my sister and I currently use.

I just started an LP and I want it to be out ther a little, so if anyone would like to take a look I would be happy to share it.
Yes ther is, it's called Screenflow.
