This is a very great tutorial. Also for screen recorders you can use Bandicam. I use it and it has less lag and higher frame rate on some computers opposed to fraps.

i have a high pitch voice and if i want to make a lest play of minecraft im gonna need to mask it or else people wouldnt enjoy it i use audacity for my voice recorder so does anyone have any tips

Great post, and I have found that using Hypercam or preferably full-version Fraps works well for me. But a great editing program I found on a wikipedia list page was Avidemux. It's open source, it allows encoding video and sound, simple cut/copy/paste editing, and numerous filters as well (I'm not familiar with the filters on it yet).
I suggest adding Avidemux to the list of editing software.

Hey, Macs have a built in screen recorder! (I discovered this with Google!) If you open up QuickTime player, then go to file, there is an option called "Start New Screen Recording." Just use that if you don't want to DL anything.

In my opinion, uploading in HD is to vital to a let's play. I usually will refuse to watch a let's play unless it is in very good quality.

i have one of the cam studio recording things and i uploaded video to youtube and it was bad real bad i couldnt here me talking and the video had a bunch of colors all over it and it was just basically moving through my video it even skipped parts

I've been thinking about making a lets play for quite some time now, but I need to know what kinda inexpensive, but good, microphone people would recommend? I have my laptop with a built in mic, but it is kinda sensitive, so when my laptop gets loud, it'll pick that up, or if I'm typing or hitting buttons on the keyboard... so I'll need ideas on an good, but inexpensive microphone people recommend. I'll be buying FRAPS in a day or two, once I can get a external mic..

This is such a fantastic guide! I have been watching lets play's for about a month(its what got me into the game) I tried to do one of my own but honestly i broke just about every rule and probably didn't follow any of those tips. I did a video tonight and it was leaps and bounds better just from this. Thanks again!

I'm debating on getting a headset or not, you can hear a tiny bit of static and the keyboard with using my laptop microphone, but other than that, it's great. Is it really worth the money?

I haven't read all of the thread yet or if this question has been answered, but I record with FRAPS and my videos come out in 480p, which is okay in my opinion.
BUT, there is a black area around the video...a blank spot.How do I fix this? =]

On the encoder list I use Any Video Encoder, It seems to have a limit on the segments that can be merged at once (at 9 segments for me) idk if that's a hardware or software limitation, but it's fairly easy to just encode 9 parts and then 3 parts and then re-encode both parts and have a high quality HD video to edit/publish.

c: Also what are your thoughts on YT Channel appeal? I recently got permission from an artist to use fan art as a background and I think it makes my channel really pop, so the next time someones visits they might really get pulled in - what are your thoughts?

Quick question: What is the optimal recording size for minecraft? Like if I record fullscreen and upload it, the results is a black square on all 4 sides of the video and the video itself will be slightly smaller. Which size should i record in if it's in resized mode?

I'm not sure if this has been answered already, so for the sake of saving myself the time, is there any way to split game audio and external audio(my voice) while recording with Fraps? There are many scenarios where I just seem like an unfunny douche, so I cut that bit of audio, but it sounds fairly awkward that the game noises disappear with it.

Thanks, and another screen recording program is Screenflow, it's commonly used, it's has a trial that has a water mark, but the full version is $99 in the Mac App Store.

Don't forget that you can use QuickTime on the mac to record for free in up to 1080p!
