Hello everyone! I just recently finished this map and wanted to share it all with you!
Preface: This map is for your personal use only. If you wish to use it for a public server or to create an adventure map, ask for permission. When uploading a video, image, etc., all I ask is for credit to be given. Do not claim the map, or any portion of it, as your own work. You are not permitted to redistribute this map.
Please PM me links to anything you have made so I can take a look! I would love to see!
•Project started August of 2014. Estimated time worked from start to completion: 1800 hours
•Scale replica of Chernarus from ARMA II, roughly 1:1 in ratio.
•Map Size: 15616x14720 blocks = 229.86km^2 (ARMA II Chernarus is 225km^2 )
•File Size: 4.34GB (~2.7GB Zipped)
•All buildings enterable, with varying amounts of chests already placed for loot. Roughly 6750 chests in total.
•Neglected most toolshed/backyard aesthetic structures due to lack of loot locations. Arguably they are not necessary, and would take too much time to make.
•Neglected a lot of rock formations, mainly the ones around the north east. They felt unnecessary.
•Yes, I know some cars/vehicles are floating. They were auto-generated with WorldPainter and I am waaay too lazy to scour every road to fix them.
•Some parts of the map, such as Green Mountain and Devil's Castle for example, are not exact replicas. I modified them slightly, as well as other locations where I felt things would look more visually appealing.
•Map isn't as vertical as actual Chernarus. This is because the world had to be slightly more flat in order to be able to place all the buildings down in the more hilly areas. I tried with a very vertical map first, but it was impossible to replicate the towns by doing so. The map still looks very nice, as there are very noticeable mountains and valleys in notable areas.
•Map created via WorldPainter (Chernarus map image overlayed and used as a guide - no heightmap)
•Buildings, towns, cities replicated using screenshots from Arma II and DayZ Standalone. I used an average of 450 screenshots per city. So, roughly 20,000 screenshots in total.
•A couple of buildings may have been placed incorrectly due to human error (For example a large yellow building is supposed to be small yellow building, or something is misaligned). I made mistakes guaranteed. However, 99% of the buildings are correctly placed.
•I used a custom resource pack of my own models for fences, metal walls, shelving units, chairs, tables, bookshelves, and cupboards. A resource pack is not necessary, but many things like acacia walls and furniture will look odd without one.
I am most likely never going to work on this project again as it took so much time. It has been working fine in all versions of Minecraft that I have used from the start of making the map (2014) and to completion in 2017.
