I really like how the bowspirit came out, that looks good! But why did you make it so short? Just my opinion, but I would've streched the hull a bit and added the second mast... But that's just me.

True, but I wanted to convey the small size of a gunboat. If I had lengthened the hull but kept the mast shape, it'd look like a schooner.

Just randomly wondering but. You're doing the Dunwall project and keeping this topic up. I'm just.. a retard but. Wouldnt a steampunk city buillt out of ship parts, materials be cool. You're just.. perfect for stuff like that.
Anyway, ignore that stuff ^
One of the popular builders here on the forums, doing a very nice job. Nooo negative criticism for you sir.
The Dunwall world save is locked in a 7Zip file, so until a break down the door on that one with an Unarchiving app, I've decided to work a bit more on ships.
Don't worry, I will start building Dunwall soon.

Dont hurry anything. Just keep doing what ur doing because its definitely working! Also while playing i reminded myself of something. You obviously use reference pictures from ships when you're going to start one and that made me think of the naval museum in Paris, i once went there and. me i'm a sailor, like, smalltime on a lake but we also go on vacation with sailing yachts and stuff. I like the sea! I like everything with water.
Allright enough pointless nonsense, thing is, that museum had like the most awesome scale models of old ships, from galleons, to modern warships, like everything. I also took pictures, quite alot because i also had minecraft in mind at that time. And now that i speak of it i dont know where they are but. I guess my parents will know.
Anyway. Maybe like.. i dont know where you live, i dont need to know but. As far as you can go for reference pictures, visiting a museum like that would certainly be worth it, qua research, info, inspiration, motivation.
Wow. my english aint good to make points, ah well. Dont listen to me and keep doing what ur doing because i love your work.
Thanks very much, mate!
I was actually born in the Swedish town of Karlskrona, which took over shipbuilding after the idiot Stockholmers managed to sink the 64-gun Vasa. As such, Karlskrona has an excellent Maritime Museum, or Marin Museum. I've been there about four times, and they have some great old construction models and a fully rigged model frigate for teaching young officers the ropes on a ship.
I have also visited the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, which houses the remains of the Vasa. I think it was Vasa that triggered my love of ships, though I only started building ships in early 2012. I am also building a model of HMS Victory, so yes, I do have some good reference points.
Though I may have to pay a visit to that Parisian museum, the French have been renowned shipbuilders. Thanks again, my friend! Je ne manquerai pas de suivre votre conseil!
Oooooo. i just thought of something. Being fond of ships, sailing, i also dig roman and greek history. Feel it coming ? :<
I love triremes, biremes, i once built one for a starting up rpg server but that project was abandoned. Ah well..
I think, well you can almost be certain that not only the romans used triremes, i thought like.. ottomans also did, fenicians, carthage, i dunno .. i'm not certain about that. just.. meh. I dont want you to do what.. i say because. you're awesome and. you should not be eeh. you should just follow what you want yourself.
It'd just be awesome to see one of these ships passing by here on your thread. I always despise modern day technology, i find it more impressive what they were capable of in the roman times, medieval times. Their ships, gothic cathedrals. It feels much better than modern shait. ah well. I'm so bad at. decent messages.
That's actually a pretty good idea. I haven't considered building any ships from pre-1000 AD, so it might be interesting to look into my 'The Ship' book and study the ships of the Greeks and Romans.

Cool boats, the sails need some work though. But i like the dedication.
This is true, but as far as I am concerned, hulls, gun spacing, deck and mast design ranks far above sails. I'll perfect these first.
Also, you may want to download the Grand Endeavour off of the video from MrBeasty, as that has changed sails. Considering that the rest of my ships are either months old or have furled sails, you don't have much to go by
Why so many votes for favorites yet only 2 for future ships?
Until I get more votes, I think I am going to make a frigate, because I haven't made a big ship in a while.
She may as well be the best-known frigate, the Surprise. Some schematics I'll be using:

That is indeed a fine looking hull... where do you find your schematics? I'll search for hours and never find anything nearly that useful.
Looking forward to the progress!
If you know what ship you're basing it off of, or what kind, it is best to use Google Images, which will lead you to fine websites of people who study ships, these people being the ones that sport such schematics.
Surprise is looking good Gloom. I've decided to name my frigate the 'USS Constitution' because of it's popularity and because it's got a similar amount of guns (44 compared to my 46).
Ooh, the Constitution. That will look good. Thankee for the complement!
I think the sails do half the build simply because they are so big and visually striking when done right, apart from the small details that you don't really see on first sight like cannons etc. Sillouete is really good at this imo.
If I am not very good at sails, as you say, they're not half the build So until I do perfect them, I won't be using them as frivolously as usual. Not to mention a floating tub with a good sail is still a floating tub.

In what way do you think the masts are disproportionate? To me, it looks like you may have started the yards a bit high... as though you could stand to lop off a few meters from the bottom of each mast, and shift everything down. Also, the bowspirit looks a bit... excessive? But that might just be the angle of the picture. Also, I don't know how long it's supposed to be IRL.

...actually, created is a bit much.... Thought of. That's more accurate.
Looking good apart from maybe the bow. Here's a few pictures that may help you.
This is how I like to recreate the bow:
Good luck!
Oh, that's handy. The bows of these kind of ships are the hardest parts to recreate, what with the beakheads and the shaping. I didn't realize the Surprise's bow was curved and didn't have a beakhead platform until I had built them.

Fixed that a little, though not completely.
