I've been playing around with the snapshots recently, killing time until the new update comes out. I found a seed with a nice isolated village on a plains island, and decided to play with the new trading system. The idea is to figure out how to build a functional economy as the trading mechanics evolve. So I started with this:
I built a temporary breeding cell to jump start the population, and have been adding simple farms and buildings to get things up and running. So far I have 3 tree farms (no jungle farm), a melon/pumpkin farm, a mid-sized wheat farm, cows, chickens, pigs, and sheep, an alchemy shop, a library (enchanting), smithy, Inn/Tavern, Open Marketplace, boathouse and a small storage warehouse.
That's going to be the foundation for a completely developed island. I figure the area I have established will end up being the commercial part of the island. I need an industrial area (automated mass production), and a more residential area (bigger, higher end houses).
Here's what I have so far:
Overview, layout of town.
Marketplace
Livestock and Mine entrance
Library
Island Overview and current area use.
The industrial area will develop as new redstone technology presents itself in 1.3, so I'm not worried about that. I don't do a lot of form over function building though, so the residential area is daunting.
Looking for ideas of what kind of buildings to add (more stores, parks, etc.). I want to add a normal village style church on the low-end of town, but was thinking an occult temple or something for the nether portal. IDK, I'm not used to building anything just to have a building I usually focus on making rooms/machines with a purpose. I really like the Idea of building a big working city to take advantage of the economy.
Suggestions wanted. Also feel free to post whatever you've been working on to fill the time until new content. I'll take some inspiration from wherever I can get it.
Seed: Krosis
It's a really good seed. Close Mooshroom biome, jungle, desert pyramid, fun caving.
This is a very interesting project. I've heard of expanding villages, but not for the purpose of an economy - or even for making it look good, which you have. DIAMOND PANTS FOR YOU!
Not sure I like how this came out, I will probably fiddle with it before I do the landscaping around it.
Was trying for a lighthouse with a town hall type building attached, but the building came out too small, so the town hall will go somewhere else.
This is the worrying view. the windows look really off from outside, but it doesn't look right with nothing either. I'm thinking some bushes near the door with the windows removed will help.
Not sure what to do with the interior yet, but I think it will lend itself nicely to a tavern of some sort.
Not complete, by any means. Been working a lot so not a lot of time for Minecraft, so It's going slow.
Don't make a jungle tree farm unless you have a really fast computer. If I'm in a jungle, i lag badly
My computer is pretty old, but I have no lag problems, even with the texture pack. I didn't want a jungle tree farm because I don't use jungle wood that much. There's a jungle a short boat-ride away anyways., which I'm probably gonna go loot for ferns soon.
