I've been constantly looking at this post for quite some time, it's truly an amazing build. I can't wait for the map to be released, and I was wondering maybe if you were going to turn this into a server?

I'm a Java programmer, and I'm a terrible artist. Anything else, just ask me.
I feel like the idea of a torrent download is good when the map is ready-that way there doesn't have to be a server constantly giving out 24 gig downloads.
Nice. But Stormwind will look much better after the touchup, at the moment it looks like it has been made by someone using the sphere brush in WorldEdit for the place.
how soon will the download for this be cuz me and my friends wanna start making working raids and dungeons for it on our server this is the best minecraft map i have ever seen like THE BEST ONE EVER! i would kill for this map its so epic keep up the work!!! also if i got enough people to start advertising it would u send me a copy mayb?
My pet project has been to recreate a full-scale version of World of Warcraft inside Minecraft. The creation of the world is largely automated by custom software which I've been developing over the last few weeks. It's just now reached a point where I can release some quality screenshots!
Below you will see vistas from the first zone I have converted, Kalimdor, that I believe are very faithful to the original World of Warcraft environment. The same process will be used to re-create the entire game, including all continents and dungeons.
The only obstacle I've run into is the default Minecraft height limit. Many zones exceed 128 blocks, so I've needed to use mods to increase the height limit. Once I'm satisfied with the quality of the maps, they will most likely be hosted online. I've received a tentative offer from Cursecraft to host the world, which might be where it ends up.
You can follow along my progress in this thread. Let me know if you're happy with the results, and I will gladly post more screenshots and video as the project advances =D
Update: There's now an interview on Venture Beat which includes some screenshots of Outland:
Update, Apr 4: Added some preview screenshots of the Eastern Kingdoms:
Update, July 7: Added a before and after gallery:
[Update] June 10th, 2013:
I've posted an interactive map of Outland, which can be viewed here:
Both the continents of Outland and Northrend will be released in Crafting Azeroth v1.0, which is due to come out later this year. You can read more about it in this post.
[Update] Feb. 2nd, 2013:
I've fixed two minor bugs with CA-Teleport. If you are running your own server, I recommend updating to the latest version here: CA-Teleport-v0.1.2.jar (13KB)
[Update] Oct. 7th, 2012:
The beta of Crafting Azeroth is released! You can download it here:
The download contains map files for Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor plus two essential plugins for running a Bukkit server. The files extract to ~24 GB so make sure you have enough hard drive space. You can find a helpful installation guide , courtesy of shawnvmartin.
If you're just interested in exploring, you can access a public server by adding wow.cursecraft.com to your in-game server listing (requires Minecraft 1.6.4 to work). You should be able to fly (double jump) or teleport between continents (/mvtp Kalimdor or /mvtp Azeroth). Alternatively, you can watch this produced by sevadus gaming (note: contains some inappropriate language).
Very interesting new maps Rumsey. However, after zooming in on Stormwind I noticed the Cathedral looks absolutely awful. Well, after the touchup it will look better.
Very well done on everything you have done heremon this build. I am especially Impressed with your handmade java program to convert the WOW map files. I am currently creating a grand theft auto map of San Andreas and about 5 % complet. It is all 1 to 1 scale ratio. Check out my thread about the build. Would it be Possible to use your mapping software on gta files, if so could you please send me a copy and a short explanation on how to use it, it would made my file so much easier. I dont mind sending you a donation via paypal for the privalige of using it. I don't believe I will need to change the map height limit.
Honestly I'm loving how this is turning out. So precise of a recreation of the Azeroth world it is, despite some of the awkward building positions (the cathedral in Stormwind being a pretty good example :P) and the giant file size of the world itself. I'm intrigued to see how the Outlands, my favorite place in the entire game when I played it, and the other Burning Crusade areas in Azeroth come out. It will be so epic, especially once the instanced areas are added (if they are to be added eventually that is :P).

That world tree really is very big...

Also, more pics
I'm confused. It very clearly has a head.
different head.
^.^
Yeah I think that's due to that area being in Outland or something.
I think he's saying about how everything is a different colour.
Thank you and good luck with the build
