I've been trying unsuccessfully for a while now so if you can, I will love you forever. That and I'll credit you in the final release. The elevator would have to be relatively small. I'd say maximum around 7x7 blocks for the base. (I want it to convincingly fit in an internal support so preferably smaller. :tongue.gif: It would also have to be able to go both up and down. Only two stops are required: The top and the bottom, though each one needs a working call button as well.
I love hitting one sand block and seeing the rest all fall. Would enjoy to see that happen here. Not saying I want it destroyed, or anything. Just a guilty pleasure of Minecraft.
It's clay, actually. Sorry to disappoint. :sad.gif: When I was building the Hindenburg, I wanted it to be the right color (light gray) so I built it using the appropriate colored wool. Then I remembered I was putting it on a multiplayer server and didn't want griefers with flint and steel to recreate the real Hindenburg Disaster. So I switched them both to clay.
I like the thing about sand, though. I might copy it and use MCEdit to find/replace the hull (clay) and internal supports (bedrock) with sand and/or gravel to watch it fall. :biggrin.gif:
Update: Improved on airfield and hangars! Pictures below! Will be improving interior next!
If anybody wants the map containing both the Hindenburg and my new airship OR MCEdit schematics of either of them ASAP, simply post a suggestion for improvement here or in my inbox! It can be anything from flag design suggestions to server info to design changes!
Hi, I'm Sir_Oswald_Smudge and I like zeppelins.
Now if I were you, I'd be wondering why I sound like I'm introducing myself at an AA meeting. Or I'd be skipping straight to the pictures, intimidated by all of these words. Actually, I think I'm giving myself a little too much credit with that one. After all, if you're still reading this, it means you're not looking at the pictures so I guess they can't be that great. And if you're not reading this, it means you're probably looking at the pictures which must mean they're awesome (Or you're checking up on 0r161n4l_U53rn4m3's progress on MegaTowerCityMetropolisVille, which is cool too.) But to all of you not reading this paragraph, thank you.
The reason I sound like an addict trying to convince the circle that all's well is so he can go home and get his fix is exactly that. I'm addicted to zeppelins and when I'm done writing this post, I'll immediately resume doing dirty, nasty things to them. Now I know what you're thinking. "Just shut up already," right? But you should also know that I know that what you should be thinking is "Oh, Ozzie. How can one be addicted to something as preposterous as zeppelins? Also you're incredibly handsome and if I met you in public, I'd give you a high-five." But it's true, inner monologue. After spending many, many hours constructing a 1:1 replica of the infamous airship Hindenburg (Which can be found here.), I realized that zeppelins hold a special place in my heart. A place that I'd like to slather in honey and roll around in because there are zeppelins in my heart and that's just great. So even after finishing the Hindenburg, I still hadn't had enough of them and I immediately began constructing this. It is intended to act as a micro-city on a large multiplayer server (Must have planes mod and some form of economy.), with player owned rooms, stores, scheduled onboard events, and even its own airport. It's eaten up all my free time and it's not even close to being finished but it is my own original design and as such, feels much more satisfying to work on. So, without further ado, I present...the zeppelin. (Taking name suggestions.)
View of the ship's starboard side. It is 361 blocks long. The gas bag is 61 blocks in diameter but the fins increase the height and width by a few blocks.
Here are the shadows of my two airships on the artificially lowered ground. The Hindenburg is on the left. My new one is on the right.
This is the navigation room of the control car. As you can see, I'm using the default texture pack instead of the custom one I made for the Hindenburg.
This is the bridge, through the door on the right in the previous picture. The other door leads to the observation room, which has nothing but windows.
To get an idea of the size of the ship, here is the control car visible from the side.
And here it is farther away. The other protrusion on the keel is the boarding ramp, which may be removed in favor of a mooring attachment at the bow.
The fins currently display the Tainted Coil symbol from Brütal Legend. Accepting suggestions for changes. No national flags, please.
Starboard passenger area windows.
Inside the starboard lounge. The lounge and dining room are both larger versions of the Hindenburg's.
The reading room beside the lounge. If the ship gets into a decent server, it'll hopefully hold readable books.
The ship's main lobby, as seen from the boarding ramp staircase.
The stage. It has its own prep room and sound/light room. Hopefully, people will regularly do...stagey stuff there.
The information booth. It is opposite the stage and has a bulletin board and a rules list to its left and right sides respectively.
The bar. It is above and behind the stage. The area behind it can only be accessed through a crew area.
Like the Hindenburg, this ship has a fortified smoking room with an airlock. Mine also has a window.
One of four first-class rooms. I will probably double the area of most rooms, including this one.
Updated! 3/4 front view, showing the improved hangar bay with flight control area and anti-air defences.
Updated!Inside the hangar bay. The planes are from Flan's Planes Mod. There are thirteen individual hangars. Ten for small planes and three for larger ones.
New! Overview of the improved hangar at night.
Well, that's about it. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please post them here. Additionally, if you know of a fairly large and active server with Planes Mod and some form of economy, please tell me! If I join, I'll send the admin MCEdit schematics for both the Hindenburg and this ship to be pasted into their server. Among the rooms I haven't shown are the dining room, kitchen, crew mess, officer mess, crew bunkrooms, gym, store, 2nd and 3rd class rooms, storage areas, restrooms, stage prep room, and sound/lighting room. Additionally, if there is enough interest, I'll make the schematics publicly available for download.
MUST... MAKE... DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!

How do I mine for fish? --- Current idiocy level: [1.934]
Amazing, diamonds for you! Put a couple multiplayer minigames in it, and people will never want to leave it on a server. Also maybe some surrounding land.
Good idea! People who give me suggestions get the map early (call it a prerelease) so just say the word and I'll PM you the current (unfinished) version of the map! Any ideas for what sort of multiplayer minigames I should add? I'm already adding an improved stage for events with automated lights, a trapdoor, and a revolving backdrop. What else should I add?
It's not quite finished yet. When it is finished, I'll post the final version here. (Currently doing a massive aesthetic and functional revision of the interior.) BUT, if you give me one good suggestion for improvement, anything at all, I'll send you the current map. It could be the name of the ship, flag design, interior idea, anything you can think of.
Without getting too far into semantics or spelling rules, I'm American. American English and British English (I'm assuming you're from the UK. If not, I apologize.) are two different dialects and in some cases use different spellings for the same word. While "aeroplane" is a legitimate spelling, I am more used to and more comfortable with "airplane." Plus, it takes one fewer keystroke. :biggrin.gif: Thanks anyway! Any input about the map?
