Edit 2: Looks like Tinypic removed my pic of my Hindenburg's tail. Probably the Nazi flags. Anyway, you can still see the tail from some of the other pics. I started on my second airship on the 5th. It is about 90% done now. It my own design and is about 1.5x the scale of the Hindenburg. (Gas bag is 361x61x61 meters) You can find it here. :smile.gif:
Hey, everybody! After leaving the forums for a while, I'm back with my second major build! To all (zero) of my followers, I'm sorry I stopped updating Novus Astrum. The project was simply too daunting a task for three people and I've since shelved it indefinitely. Due to that disappointment, I took a little break from Minecraft. When I returned to the forums, I noticed a post by someone who had built an airship and I wanted to make one. As a not very airship-inclined individual, or a very creative person, I decided to build the only airship I had ever heard of! I mean, what better way to get over the disappointment of failing on a massive project than by immediately starting another one? So, without further ado, (save for the annoying red paragraph below this one) I present...The Hindenburg!
Note: The exterior of the ship is a near-perfect 1:1 (251x41x41 meters) replica of the Hindenburg. However, due to space limitations I could not make the interior perfectly 1:1. I did the best I could but many of the rooms had to be reduced in size, and/or rearranged. The only room that I could not include in any form is the officer's mess. Comparison photos are included in spoilers below their corresponding pictures.
The one on the bottom is the Hindenburg.
Note: Some of these are taken from the wrong side. Oh well, they're mirror images...kind of.
To celebrate the start of the 1936 Olympics, hosted in Berlin, The Hindenburg had Olympic rings painted on its sides. I could not find any closeup pictures of them.
I am aware that this isn't a real photo of the Hindenburg but it was the only decent forward view I could find that is structurally correct.
It does have a complete interior as well, complete with lounge, dinging room, passenger quarters, the smoking room, and more. Eventually, I'll put up more pictures of the inside but it'll have to wait until my custom texture pack is complete. Anyway, here are two rooms.
The dining room. Conveniently angled away from the incomplete paintings on the far right wall.
The two interior reference photos are from a replica of the Hindenburg's insides, not the actual thing.
This replica doesn't have the piano against the back wall because in 1937, it was removed to save weight.
Well, that's it! If anybody knows any ways to improve the design, has any suggestions for improving historical accuracy, or pretty much wants to say anything that doesn't start an argument about Nazis, I'd love to hear it! :smile.gif:
Actually, no. I'm nowhere near good enough with Paint Mod to have made it that way. :biggrin.gif: I'm making a custom texture pack and I replaced two of the 4x4 paintings, each with half of the logo.
8 days, all together. Though that doesn't include the planning and research, which was probably another week and a half. I used MCEdit to make the oval for the main body because otherwise, it would have been too huge to finish (251x41x41) Every other block was hand-placed.

im thinking paint mod.
The Paint Mod I think. (:
Give a man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day.
It's so, huge.

Thanks! +1 diamond to you!
