Ok, so I was going to post this in the screenshots thread, but I realized I had too many pics and I wanted some comments anyway...so here goes:
I wanted to build a Turkish-style mosque, similar to the Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque, I tried to keep all the details, though in some ways I was restricted (for example, the height limit). I also didn't want to use any commands to create the shapes; in that manner at least I succeeded :tongue.gif:.
I started this on a SSP server but moved once my friend got up a creative server. One interesting challenge was that the server had mobs turned on, which turned out to be quite annoying.
PICS: I would appreciate if a mod could turn these into image tags before the thread dies. Thanks.

GODDAMN ENDERMEN
Interior: It's actually well-lit enough for mobs not to spawn; the butchering was just to kill the endermen that spawned on the roof during the night.
And a secret shrine to the admins in the basement: I know that real mosques probably wouldn't have statues, sorry if this offends anyone
Ok, so that's it. While the image tags are not there, please click; I'd like your feedback!
Wow awesome job! I'm actually hosting Minecraft contests and I'd love to see you as a contestant. The website is really new so you have good chances of winning. Please check us out! Event 3 starts Aug 10 and you are required to build a city. :)P{
P.S. You should press F1 so that your screenshots don't show your arm or items!
The exterior looks fine for its size but the interior looks unfinished. I'd recommend actually looking at some pictures of the Hagia Sophia and The Blue Mosque for help with that.
Nice job It reminds me of the Hagia Sophia in Constinople
Which was originally an Eastern Orthodox Church, built before Islam even existed. The Minarets were added later.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
And for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed out of all knowledge... Rumor turned into myth... myth turned into legend, and legend gave rumor and myth amiss, and went straight into autumn. ...Wait, what?
I didn't expect to have a flurry of posts so long after I originally made this, but I can't complain!
As for the whole church/mosque thing, many mosque designs are inspired by Churches, which you can see in mosques like the Blue Mosque which actually look like the Hagia Sophia but weren't formerly churches themselves. A building doesn't deserve to be considered anything, but I think the addition of minarets and interior decoration on the Hagia Sophia certainly give it a definitive mosque look.
As for the interior, mosques seem particularly difficult. Many mosques are just big huge rooms with no furniture, cause everyone kneels on the ground. I know some have religious schools and stuff like that, but the main area is still just empty. And lighting big empty spaces is really hard in minecraft, so I had to rely on the least clunky solution I could find (short of magical floating candles or lightmap manipulation), chandeliers made of fences. Even though I'm not really working on this anymore, if anyone has any better ideas, I'd be glad to hear them -- lighting large spaces is always a problem.
The chandeliers are pretty spot on, most of the Ottoman-style mosques I've seen have had large suspended ones down the main spaces. Actually, the only difference between those chandeliers and yours is that irl, they are suspended by the edge of the circle, not from the middle.
PS, I like how the admin with the red scarf is looking askance at the other. Makes him look sneaky
Hi. I'm starting a new server and I would like to have you help build the spawn because I think that you are really talented in building. Interested? Just reply to this post with your minecraft username so I can white-list you. Thanks!

Mario, it's finished, sorry. It is a private server, but I can ask the owner for a save if enough people want it.
