I have loved building other people's tutorial buildings so much that I decided to make one of my own. I hope you enjoy building it as much as I did. I decided to make a nice beach-style "mansion".
Materials List * In brackets I have included the amounts used at each stage of construction * Wood planks - 1625 total (Step 3: 392, Step 6: 9, Step 7: 295, Step 8: 6, Step 10: 7, Step 11: 296,
Step 15: 392, Step 16: 228) Cobblestone - 338 total (Step 3: 184, Step 4: 62, Step 5: 92) Glass - 162 total (Step 4: 30, Step 9: 68, Step 13: 64) Wood stairs - 260 total (Step 6: 4, Step 8: 12, Step 10: 4, Step 16: 240) Sandstone blocks - 444 total (Step 8: 90, Step 9: 114, Step 10: 92, Step 12: 68, Step 13: 80) Doors - 4 total (Step 8: 2, Step 13: 2) Fence - 36 total (All used at step 14) Wood slabs - 24 total (All used at step 16)
Step 1 - Dig a 12x16 hole. Add a 10x10 hole on either side of this. The two smaller holes should be centered on the sides that are 16 blocks long. It will look like this.
Step 2 - Dig down until the entire hole is 3 blocks deep. This will be the basement.
Step 3 - Line the bottom with wood planks. Line the walls with cobblestone. I forgot to screenshot this step.
Step 4 - Put down another layer of cobble atop the walls, leaving spaces for windows. The side that doesn't have a window is going to be the front of the house. I made the back window 6 blocks wide, and the three windows on each side 4 blocks wide.
Step 5 - Cover with 1 more layer of cobble.
Step 6 - New we'll build a stairway out of the basement. I built it in the central area near the back window. 3 steps up, then 1 wooden plank, then 1 more step to the left.
Step 7 - Fill in the floor with wood planks even with the top cobble layer. This will be the first floor. Make sure you leave enough of a hole to get up the stairs.
Step 8 - Add the front stairs (2 rows of wood stairs 6 blocks wide). Add a row of sandstone on the previous row of cobble, leaving room for the front doors. I switched the cobble to wood where the doors will go. You can also place the doors at this time, making sure they're flush with the outer wall.
Step 9 - Place another row of sandstone leaving room for windows. I put windows in the same spots at the bottom level, only adding 2 small ones around the front door. Do this step twice, also adding the sandstone over the front doors.
Step 10 - Add another layer of sandstone. Now we'll build the stairway to the second level. I put it on the back wall directly opposite the stairs to the basement.
Step 11 - Fill in the wood planks for the top floor, making them even with the sandstone.
Step 12 - Start the walls, leaving the left side of the house as it is. This side will be the balcony. Also leave a gap 4 spaces wide on the left wall for the patio doors and glass border.
Step 13 - Add 2 more rows of walls leaving space for windows. I did 6 block wide windows on the front and back, surrounded the double patio door with glass, and put a bay window on the right.
Step 14 - Add railing and supports for the balcony roof. Supports in each corner are 3 blocks high, and even with the wall at this point.
Step 15 - Cap the entire house, including balcony with wood planks for the roof.
Step 16 - Add wood stairs to the outer edge of the roof you just made. Put planks on the "innie" corners and slabs on the outer corners to make it look good. DO this twice more, moving 1 block inwards each time. You should now have 3 layers of this. Fill in the remaining gap with wood planks.
At this point the house is basically done. All it lacks is your very own decorative touch. As this is usually a matter of personal taste I will not include instructions, but I will leave some screens of what I have done in case someone needs some inspiration.
Added flower boxes to the front and back windows with grass and trapdoors.
Added a small backyard pool. Because who doesn't love a pool when you live 3 steps from the ocean
Entryway
Sitting room
Kitchen
Basement TV room
Basement pool table
Basement library
2nd floor bedroom
2nd floor balcony
2nd floor bathroom. I've just realized like a genius that I forgot a toilet but oh well.
Hopefully you guys like this build and if you have any requests for more tutorials I will do my best to make them. I just ask that you keep it reasonable ie. no sky to bedrock super towers or something. I wouldn't have the time to make anything that huge very quickly. By the way the texture pack is wayukian, as I'm sure someone will ask.
@ irichey25: What part did you find confusing? I can take more screenshots for you if you need detail on something in particular. I'll admit that as this is my first tutorial I may be lacking in detail in an important spot.
Just wanted to bump this as I added an extensive materials list recently after rebuilding the house. It should be easier for people to build now that you know what you'll need
IMO it looks a bit plain. I think it could do with a bit more variety in the materials department, maybe logs on the corners of the building and things like that. Still, the main design and shape is very nice, great work!

You would have had to read the whole OP but there is the answer.
