I suppose most of the people in this thread are more concerned about how to start a house from scratch and at loss at how to select a location and lay down the first few blocks. This is a guide and not a step by step process but it might be the beginning of a step by step or even a "pimp your crib" thread.
There's really not much to it guys
1: Location ~ choose somewhere close to places you plan on exploring or using. Second choose a place close to the materials you plan on building with and finally a place with a view makes for an awesome house!
2: Lay down your foundations ~ Make it as big as you feel comfortable with and can supply with building materials. A plain rectangle makes for a plain house. Putting two or three different sized squares or rectangles together can make an interesting floor plan and it doesn't need to be symmetrical. If you can plan what rooms you need or want to keep separate even better!
This has certainly given me a few ideas! Thank you.
..but speaking of a starter standpoint, I generally make the beginning of my project out of dirt so I can get an idea of what it'll look like, and even after my building has taken shape I change my mind, move stuff around, add a few things, take away a few things or even scrap the thing as a whole if I get invaded and move far away. (I play almost exclusively on multiplayer)

I am currently building a vast city in the sky project, and i am tryin to go for a fantasy-like look and this will DEFINITELY help.
I'd post some pics but i am still working on the island itself. And since my dumbass updated to 1.7 now i cant fly till the mod is updated. And nerts to doing it without flying, it is far far too big to be working via scafflings lol.

Really. This is impressive. As someone said, I also wish I was this creative. However, every time I try to make something as fancy as that, I always turn up a couple block short, and then it looks fugly. I don't understand how the heck you can make them look so nice.
You should fraps a video or something. I want to see your technique. Again, Teach me!

Well, as far as I know, servers doesn't cost much, so I could possibly buy one, BUT... I have no clue how to manage it >.< I really suck at computer things really. Though, I'd rather learn how to manage a proper server then using Hamachi - It f00ks up the internet connection. I should do some research about it. I have no clue how to run a server nor commands nor anything else about it really so, but I'll give it a check.
You could also look for one, but first I kinda need to know some stuff about you (Like where you are from so that I know if there is any idea at all to buy an European server or an American one and so forth) and other important things. But put that in Private messaging thing, just in case :smile.gif:. Also add (if you have) Msn / Skype / Ventrilo / Something else that might make the communication easier.
well I've administrated on alot of servers and had a few setup for me and a friend to play on, it's not hard really.. I'm in Kansas which is in the united states :\ but I have a great internet connection so having a sever hosted in Europe shouldn't be a problem.. right now i'm having someone build me a custom map so i might be able to find a server that will host it for us too
