These are some pics of my first attempt at a "modern" style house. Feel free to post your modern buildings here too. I would love some feedback/inspiration.
Not really digging the glowstone, also I feel like it uses too many half-blocks for the fireplace. I like the carpet, but I don't like using it as the walls and ceiling as well. Good job.

Yeah, I didn't wanna use torches, since I was going for a "modern" look, which is also why I used the wool. I just wish I could find a good modern HD texture pack for building homes like this, ya know? I was trying to go for something along this style: http://www.arnewde.com/architecture-des ... alifornia/
Might use fence posts for hanging lamps. Maybe remove the torches on the outside or find a different light alternative. Just my opinion that they look funky. The glass actually look practical as alot of modern expensive houses are glassasms. You might want to remove some of the glass on some of the walls and use them for paintings or whatnot to get rid of some negative space inside the house. It's too empty.
Other than that it just needs a liiittle bit of color variety which can be a ***** to integrate without ruining the "feel". For example, I love the couch, but if there's a possibilty of making the cushins colored, do it.

I agree. I also wish Minecraft had a better lighting system than torches and glowstone.
I'm really diggin all the feedback, thanks guys. Yeah, I know it has a lot of negative space, but I was going for a modern/minimalistic design. And about the suggestion for fences for hanging lights, I like doing that, but I wanted to use little to no wood for the house. I need a texture pack with metal/stone fencework.

I actually like that idea alot. I'll probably do that or at least include an alternative option for such in my texture pack. I'm not even half way through the drawing board stage yet though and I haven't been actively working on it. You should find a stone or iron texture that you like and use paint to copy and paste a strip of it over the fence texture.
I've been contantly forwarding my craving for more abilities of crafting like stone fences, smooth stone/ore/brick steps and half slabs, wool half slabs etc. etc. I think coding new AI can wait but that's just me.

I don't pretend this is orignal, or even very good, but it's my first attempt.

Snow is even less practical than wool rofl. Not to mention torches will melt it.

Also iron blocks. Kind of.
