It started out as a simple enough project. a 32x32 icon of a classic Mac. (25x32 more specifically)
But I couldn't just leave it at that...Minecraft is, after all a 3D game, and this enormous 2D wall just didn't fit. So I decided to extrapolate the icon into the 3rd dimension. Lemme know what you think!
Welcome to Macintosh. You're watching the Squid Channel...all squid, all the time!
AUGUST 05, 2011 UPDATE - Piston Screen!! In color!!
I don't know if it's been done yet or not, I hadn't seen it before, but I've built a very basic 2-color piston display into the Big Mac, bringing up a static graphic, and the letters T E S T in sequence, and looping itself. I don't have the technical know-how to create a full-fledged programmable piston display with memory, and the Big Mac would probably be too small to house it all anyway. But hey, if anyone else thinks they could do it, then by all means, give it a try! I'd love to see it!
The guts. It started with a piston behind every block, then I either powered or removed only the pistons necessary to create the image. At the top left is the clock that loops it.
Visibility is always awesome, night or day!
Please pardon the framerate...my computer is 4 years old.
ORIGINAL PICS:
Behold, the largest of all the Macs...the Big Mac.
The screen is an aquarium with glowstone interior walls.
I brought my nearby underground minecart system up out of the water to greet the giant box...
...And wrapped it around to the back, plugging it in as the Big Mac's power cord.
Inside, just a big empty room, with a basic station to launch the cart back out.
Gamers. Whether thou be a troll or a modder, a complimentor or a criticizer, we may all come together to consecutively, and completely accurately, post the lyrics to the song "Still Alive".
make a redstone computer inside :0 i once put redstone circuiting inside a cow to make it shoot arrows and tnt canons and called it "warcow". it was fun
Idea for the squidsaver: make it four blocks thick, the middle two with water. Top view:
etc
And within the water place random blocks of glass. So the squids won't fall to the bottom right away.
I tried something like that, took forever, and it kinda worked, but the glass created visible bright spots on the screen, and the squid still invariably fell to the bottom after some time.
It was like this:
<------ FRONT
<-- Glowstone, not Sponge
Now I'm thinking more along the lines of a flowing lava screensaver. It would occupy less space, be self-illuminating, and be visible from the inside too. I could even add icons and a menubar, giving the look of a desktop.
As soon as you find diamond.
You run.
You run fast.
You run not caring what else is back there.
You run because creepers know you found diamond.
You run because lava knows you found diamond.
Run.
What the fff-?! This is win! :biggrin.gif: The Big Mac. Lulz.
I love how perfectly shaped it is, and the power-cord-mine-track is a stroke of genius. Have some

With dyed wool. Of course, I don't know how much time you've got on your hands lol.
I sooooo wish I had enough colors to do that. I've got some ideas coming to mind though. It might be the face from the original icon, or it may be something else alltogether...
I was thinking you could build a redstone torch LED screen, and then build a working mouse by pushing a boat around a pressure-plate covered mousepad, but after testing it in an old save, I think it's impossible to push a boat to sit on a single pressure plate.
But I couldn't just leave it at that...Minecraft is, after all a 3D game, and this enormous 2D wall just didn't fit. So I decided to extrapolate the icon into the 3rd dimension. Lemme know what you think!

The Sun rises in the North! Now these points of data make a beautiful line...
...nice screensaver.
Yup.
You should make the face behind the glass though, hidden by water with dim illumination behind it, so it's only visible at night.
Problem?

It's this. Circa 1990 or so.

Computers scare me.
Screen rennovation is currently underway...the aquarium was a fail, so it's time to turn up the heat.
Oh noes! Orange screen of death!
booms ahoy.
