The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
First post, so if I mess anything up, let me know.
Here is my spawnpoint, I pretty much gave up on building things too far away from it, since it's pretty easy to die in the game. I built a nice little hallway going into my first base/tower/mine. For no good reason the actual 0,0 coordinate has a gold under.
This is my first kinda big build, a skyscraper that served at my home base for quite some time. I decided that the cobblestone floors stuck out like a sore thumb, so I went and made different colored floors, including the iconic black and white tile for the top floor apt.
Here's another view of the skyscraper, with the attached floating dirt isle I made when I wanted to experiment with circles. It now serves as a great vantage point, and a tree farm.
Another view of that main skyscraper, with another one I made to experiment with cobblestone edges. I think it turned out okay, with the half cylindrical roof. I added the deck much later, since it's another great vantage point.
Same subject as above, from a different angle.
This is another view of the dirt isle, with a view of three structures I'll go over further down.
Now the next few structures are ones I built out of restraint, and from browsing this very thread. Instead of towers, I wanted to make an aesthetically pleasing house, but I wanted it to still have a modern look. Here is my log cabin, two pictures from above to show the overall layout. I'm not sure how visible it is, but I also made a dock that connects to one of the sub basements of the house, in case it's to dark outside to go in the front door.
You can also see in the above pictures that I've been trying to melt some ice, since boat travel is much faster than swimming.
Here is the front of the log cabin. I started to dig out a staircase in front of it, but ended up moving on to another project.
This is a very modest greenhouse I constructed on top of the log cabin, to experiment more with cylindrical roofing, and to grow some wheat.
I made a little basement for the log cabin, since I had an incinerator for extra cobblestone when mining underground. I'm probably going to finish it by digging under the rest of the house, so it has the same floor layout.
Alright, so these are the two structures I alluded to earlier. In the foreground is a brick house I built, which was probably the most intense building experience yet. Which is not to say I don't like it. If you're unfamiliar, clay is typically found under water. And clay is cooked to make bricks. Four bricks make one brick building block. So ONE stack of brick building blocks means that I had to dig up and cook 256 blocks of clay.
In the background is a tower I'm very disappointed in, but I'm eventually going to make the roof into a proper dome, so that it'll be more of a silo. I added the inverted cross just because I wanted a cool shaped window, it has no meaning to me than any other shape. The tower is just cobblestone and dirt, and I put in floors every 8 or so meters, alternating between stone and dirt. The funny thing is that when I've woken up on a dirt level, I'll be surrounded by animals.
Here is another view of the brick house from the top of the silo, showing off my mark on the world.
This is my most recently completed project, a building made of sandstone. I'm always experimenting, and I wanted to make a building out of sandstone, after the latest beta release added natural sandstone. I had to travel to a new chunk, which is actually where I found cactus for one of the skyscaper's floors.
In this first picture, you can see that I actually leveled a larger isle to make this house on a solitary isle. On the left is my dock, and on the right is my cactus farm. In the distance you can see my current project, which I haven't taken any more pictures of.
And here is the back, where you can also see my experiment with how closely trees can grow next to eachother:
Well, I hope these are as aesthetically pleasing to you as they are to me.
Edit: The texture pack is Mikk's Sleek and Simple. It actually makes cobblestone look not so horrible.
Built mahself a bed, up on the second floor, plus one in my "Lair".
Finally finished my "Lair", so I finally have a nicely organized storage center, which also means I now have a legitimate "base". Holy **** did it take a long time to gather and line all that sandstone.
The small box in the right center there is the "dump" box where I just unload stuff to organize later.
And here is my Lair staircase entrance with boxes all around in the back for dirt and gravel.
