This movie shows the best interior decorating I have seen so far in Minecraft:
I'd suggest giving it a view for interior design ideas (yes, the movie was made in creative mode, but many of the ideas are easily incorporated into Beta). It's one of the few minecraft movies that I actually watched the whole way through--just because it actually looked GOOD.
I'm incorporating a lot of the design elements into my own worlds.

While that video was impressive structure-wise I found it to be quite unimpressive design-wise. The ideas were vague and if I wasn't told what most of the things in the resort were, I would have never guessed their purpose. I like seeing things and thinking "Wow! That looks just like its supposed to." or "That's the coolest way I've seen that done." The cloud layer in the spa was the only thing that really stood out as innovative and creative to me and even that could have been done better. Not to mention, there wasn't any strenuous gathering of materials to create it. I've worked for months on my houses, collecting wool from every sheep I find, keeping chest after chest of stone and coal, growing and chopping down all my own trees, crafting all my picture frames and bookshelves, finding and mining the diamonds for jukeboxes...etc. Here's a video and builder I can appreciate:
I love the whole house! About those chandeliers, though... I thought you couldn't place torches on glass? Is this a mod, or did you swap textures around?

I bilieve if you have a block below the glass like so:

(I'm on my iPod so the amulets didn't load XD glass is the pink)
Then just try to place a torch on the top of the obsidian (which could be any block)
I'm pretty sure that this is the trick.

This building isnt done, I intend to add a seccond floor and a pagoda/slanted roof.
But this is what I have so far.
Tips? pointers?
The courtyard is empty besides the two fountains, anything i should put there?
Definitely add some flowers.
You could also add some trees planted on dirt that is surrounded by half steps or something smililar. The half steps should be on ground level however, so they are flush with the rest of the ground.
Just thought of this too. You could line the sidewalk up to the house with brick or something similar. Just like the trees, make the materials flush with the ground.
Also if you feel like hacking in leaves, you could place some shrubbery. You may also be able to achieve this from some very creative tree planting.
Maybe increase the size/complexity of your fountains.

I had the idea of using mossy cobble to create a vine covered wall effect for like a walled in backyard garden area...just haven't made it yet. Perhaps you could implement it into yours.
Not really sure what you could do with the flowers.
Maybe put them in a raised flowerbed and place them on dirt instead of grass for a slightly different look, or you could crisscross them down the path, not really sure.

A grand entrance hall built primarily to test textures. I keep waffling about the colors/contrasts... I don't want it to look dull or dark, but I don't want cartoonish either. That excellent white marble is the alternate halfblock from Dante80's Albion.

I actually found the structure boring and the interior interesting. But to each their own.
I find the movie helpful for design ideas (I had not yet run into a single movie that combined so many different ideas. The stools, the pressure plate carpets, the diamond bed, the spa, etc.) It's true that some things could have been done better, but I appreciated that they were done at ALL in the movie. I use it as a good reference to look at and say "that lighting thing was pretty cool. I should use it in my house, but make it bigger and better." Or "I liked those stools in the bar. I should totally put some in my house."
The movie you linked to was nice, but I didn't find it particularly innovative. Perhaps I've seen too many people using lava as lighting, but it just doesn't impress me like it used to. But that mountain must have taken him forever to build, and it certainly doesn't look bad! ...it's just not the prettiest thing I've seen in minecraft. And I do so like pretty things.

They just look like rugs, don't they?
I made my own one of these, I'd have to say it turned out looking amazing. :biggrin.gif:

Bedroom.
View of the two porches, with a creeper lurking.
Another view from the front for some reason..? I don't know why I have two from the same view.

Not Classic Creative. It's nice though.
