Minecraft Info's Screensaver project was started around October 2010 and first released on the 20th of October 2010. The goal has always been to provide a screensaver with as much customisability as possible.
Feedback and Suggestions are greatly appreciated.
6 Screensaver Modes (7 Including "Random Mode")
Does not require Minecraft to be Installed
Supports Texture Packs
Supports Custom Minecraft Fonts
Supports Custom Backgrounds
High level of customisability
Ability to play Minecraft's Music
The Screensaver needs to be placed in Windows\ or Windows\System32\ folder for it to show up. If you download the version which includes an installer then it will appear in the Add/Remove Programs bit of windows.
Cool! from "currently" I assume you're planning on making more modes?
Well i plan on making a Minecraft Level Viewer(it would be incorporated in a Tool im working on), so "larger" screensaver modes which could use parts of your levels should hopefully be possible in the future. Tho it will be a while before i can render Minecraft Levels.
Im also willing to try and make any community ideas for a screensaver (as long as they are reasonable ideas).
I cant wait till u can get a flyby mode kind of like notches Minecraft Flight video on youtube, just plz add a multi monitor wrap mode when u get there i will so download it.
Rendering Side Improved. It now has the speed of "Performance" with the Quality of "Quality" mode.
You can now select what Block the screensaver should use with the Rotating Cube and Minecraft Logo modes(Including "Random").
Block Type Editor added to the Config bit. Allows custom blocks to be made. Also makes it future proof allowing users to add new blocks Notch makes without the screensaver needing to be updated.
Sending no parameters now makes it run the Config like other screensavers.
Latest Grass+Leaves now displays as Green(Default texture is grayscale).
Should™ scale over multiple monitors. Assuming forum threads on the subject are correct.
Block Type Editor
Ability to pick the Grass+Leaves colour is planned(As well as having it random). Technically there is a 3rd mode, but its far from finished and renders very slowly (As it has absolutely no optimisation, not even Frustum Culling).
Note that you can use the Terrain.png from texture packs with the screensaver. Just place it in the C:\Windows\System32\MCI_Data\Images\ folder (Or wherever you installed it to)
Block Type Selectors now display 16x16 small images beside the block names.
The Terrain.png Atlas is re-mapped to a 512x512 texture at runtime. (Reduces rendering errors)
Users can now select multiple background textures and the screensaver will pick one at random when launched.
Preview window added to the Config screen.
Block Map Image added which allows users to draw there own Minecraft Logo.
MipMap option added.
Angle options added.
Test Level mode is now selectable. It doesn't get picked when Random is selected. Its far from finished, requires a World1 to exist (Or it will proberly crash). Its called "Test Level" for a reason, its a test.
How To Use The Block Map
Left click creates a square, right click removes one. Its like MS Paint except you only ever have the pen tool.
If you weren't a pig I would have your children.
But that is illegal.
So I will just have to say thanks.
Edit:
It only randomizes at start. That is fine for picking the screensaver type.
For the block and logo it should randomize the block type once in awhile.
?And the block should move around the screen and have a size selector?
?The logo should appear on different parts of the screen?
If you weren't a pig I would have your children.
But that is illegal.
There is always Genetic Engineering! There is still hope!

Very good idea. Though no clue how to make the transition seamless with the Rotating Cube mode... Unless i used 2 Rotating cubes for the transition, that way i could fade one in and the other out. Or i could make the Cube get smaller and smaller until its so small you can't see it, then swap the texture and enlarge it. Logo one is simple to change (Just do it when it completes the "Animation").

I could make it so the Logo has a selectable position but as its in 3D i don't know how to make it randomly pick a location as it would likely pick a location that has part of the logo outside the screen.
I tried installing it on Win7 x64 and I am unable to adjust settings and/or preview the screensaver. Bug?
Does it appear in the screensaver selection bit? I don't have a copy of Windows 7, its possible M$ Changed something. If you right click on the screensaver (It should be located in Windows\System32 folder (If Windows 7 64 bit has one...)) does it have options to test/config/etc?
I will try testing it on my Dads copy of Vista (I only have XP).

Noticed that the screensaver needs a [default settings] button.
Some of the options are really intricate and that button would help immensely.
I guess the best way would be to have it so you can default specific sections as well as a complete default that resets everything.
Now checks to see if wglChoosePixelFormatARB exists before trying to use it. Evil Intel Cards don't support it(Even though its been around since 2000). This was broken earlier(It use to check before trying to use it).
Default buttons added to some of the settings pages.
Random Duration added. After this time the blocks will be changed to a new random block if Random block type is selected. Note that with the logo mode it will wait until it restarts its animation, so it won't be exactly whatever time you put in the box.
Note: I have released a new version this fast due to the fact that Intel Cards can't run v1.2 at all. Hence why there isn't much difference.

It does appear in the screen saver selection window, but it has no preview pic, and neither the settings buttons nor the preview buttons work. Applying doesn't seem to have much effect either. I tried to find it on my System32 folder, but I couldn't find it. I looked in both the System32 and Windows folders. What file is it saved under? I'm going to try it once more with this new version, and let you know how it turns out.
EDIT:Just tried it again twice. I tried it a second time by 'forcing' it to run as administrator. Still no cigar. I get the same problem when I try to change my screen saver.
ssmci.exe is the filename, defaultly installs to Windows\System32 but you can technically place it anywhere (Though it won't show up in the screensaver list).
Since it works on Vista, there should be no problems with 7 as 7 is just a modification of Vista rather than a complete rebuild. Hopefully(for me anyway, not you) you have an Intel card and 1.3's fix will make it work.

Keep up the Great work :happy.gif:
by wrap mode do you mean so its stretched across multiple monitors?
EDIT: Looks like its because the url had a \ in it instead of a / . Some browsers don't automatically convert \ to / . Fixed.
