Hello, this is my first major Minecraft theory I've come up with.
==== 4/18/1893 ====
So a long time ago, there was a thing called 'The Great Overworld War'. Pigmen, basically human-shaped pigs, lived in villages. But then people came along, and wanted to take the village for their own. When they slaughtered the pigmen a huge war occured. The villagers won.
So you know those two Minecraft Gods who talk in the end credits of the game? They were unhappy about the villagers killing the pigmen, so they cursed all villagers by crossing their arms forever, so they cannot cause harm to any other creatures. This even happened to their babies, and those babies' future babies, and on and on.
But one day, a mixed potion spilled on two pigs. Later on that day they were struck by lightning and was turned into zombie pigmen. They knew they couldn't be here as one of them saw The Great Overworld War, so they killed off a few villages for obsidian to make a home. When they made an obsidian home, they was filling in the holes. One of them was playing around with flint and steel and that's when a portal activated. They decided to enter and see what was going on.
Entering the portal, they discovered the Nether: a place once called 'The Hot Lands'. Filled with lava and netherrack. They decided to build up their own kingdom/fortress, so they experimented with the netherrack and made nether bricks with the lava. After that some blazes and wither skeletons started appearing in their fortresses. And then the two zombie pigmen decided to populate more zombie pigmen. Soon they decided to call this place 'The Nether'.

But what about all the gold stuff they carry with them? One pigmen said "What if the villagers come back and kill us all? What will the pigmen use to defend themselve?" the leaders of the Nether decided to sent out a group of teams to find mesa mineshafts and normal mineshafts. At that time they wasn't abandoned, until the zombie pigmen came in to kill and rob their minerals. That's why abandoned mineshafts you find are abandoned.
The pigmen didn't know what was the best weapons to chose, so they used gold swords. Now pretty much every mob there had a defense. The pigmen were peaceful compared to the rest of the nether mobs, killing anything else unusual on sight. That's why zombie pigmen are netrual to players until they attack.
==== 10/30/1987 ====
Soul sand are placed down whenever a player/person dies (not anymore). The reason why there is so much soul sand is because another war occured called 'The Great Nether War'. A young villager discovered that same portal they made and stepped into it. He was killed and caused anger towards the overworld village. So a GIANT amount of villagers went to war with them, and this time the nether mobs were victorious. They decided to use the soul sand to grow these warts they found a while ago. Pigmen would sometimes come out of portals built by players when they were discovered to bring nether wart to witches and make deals with them. That's how witches got their potions.
Witches also are friends with illagers. So the witch gave the nether mobs a spell book (from an evoker) in favor of giving them potions. The spell book would enchant their swords occansianally and can make their children ride chickens.
