HELLO EVERYBODY!!!!!!! If you are reading this i am assuming that you want to hear my theory as to why there is no cities and modern things in Minecraft, but ancient things exist. I am also trying to explain the mobs as well. Well here it is!
Magic. It all started with magic. And don't go back just yet, hear me out, and it all falls into place. It explains all mobs, why there are ancient ruins, and why you can just punch a hole across dimensions. It explains the Dragon of the Ender, and the 3 Headed Demon of the Nether. Trust me when i say it all falls into place.
The beginning
It all started with a mage, one of the greatest that ever lived. He became so great that he thought he could break the bounds of enchanting, and he did, but at a massive cost. He forced enchantments such as Smite and Bane of Arthropods together into one weapon, made armor that protected him from all things, be it arrows or bombs, and made a bow that mended itself while making his arrows last forever. He made swords and bows with enchantments that were over the limit of normal mages. He made potions that lasted near indefinitely and were stronger than even the strongest of Witches.
The duel
And he thought that if he could do that, what was stopping him from overthrowing Notch himself. So this mage brewed the strongest potions ever, one combining every possible good effect, and another that was the exact opposite, and created devastating negative effects. He made his armor even stronger, pushing the magic over the bounds of anything a human should have been able to achieve. He went to Notches palace in the clouds. He easily overpowered his guards, and thought, "This will be easy." He entered Notches chambers, and said "Creator of the Worlds, and Maker of the Seeds, I have come to duel you, and if I win, I become god." Notch agreed to these terms, and took up sword.
The Fall
The match began, and the mage threw his potion at Notch, who was then overcome by the effects. Enraged by the trickery, he banished the mage to the Nether, and sent his armor to the Overworld, where he used it to punish the whole earth. He gave the armor some energy from himself, and this pushed the armor over the edge. It detonated, releasing all power within it in a destructive blast, which caused magic to overwhelm all the beasts of the earth. It drenched all creatures in its magic, and killed most humans. It destroyed all but the oldest of structures. It mutated moss into a creature now known as a creeper, and brought the dead back to life, as either zombies or skeletons. It wreaked havoc on the dimensional barrier, allowing creatures from the Ender to come into this world.
What is the residual magic
The remaining magic infested the ores, mobs and remaining humans. It is what we know as, EXP
How i explain how Steve (or Alex. Hey, I'm not biased)
Steve (or Alex) was the one human who was able to wholly withstand the magic. Instead of being mutated, he was made 1000s of times stronger, and was able to use magic. He uses magic to make it items stronger, and to repair them. The other humans, (aka the Villagers) had smaller affinity's for magic, and as such, mutated instead of dying like the other humans.
How i explain the villagers
The villagers, as i said, are villagers with a small affinity for magic, able to survive, but not to remain the same. They discovered that they could get rid of some of the magic withing them, and return ever so slightly to normal. The clerics found they could bottle this magic, and trade to the player, who for some reason wanted more of this magic. The witches are villagers who summon potions with magic, and the Evokers and Illusioners are villagers who have taken up refuge is some of the most modern remaining structures. They focus magic into summoning creatures, or raising stone, or creating illusions.
How i explain the hostile mob
The Zombies and skeletons were, as i said, raised from the dead. Creepers are a mutated moss, and endermen are from another dimension. (insert lame Star vs the Forces of Evil theme song reference here) Guardians were caused when the magic his Prismarine and it rebounded into a school of puffer fish and Elder Guardians are all that remains of the original school. They can attack with lasers through magic. Spiders are explained by regular spiders being made larger by magic, which also makes them hostile in the dark. Zombies and Skeletons burn in daylight due to the fact that the sun makes the magic keeping them alive dissipate destructively.
How i explain the nether
It was made as a place to banish the mage to by Notch, and the magic within it is bound. Magma cubes and blazes are animated lava and fire respectvly. Blazes use magic to shoot fire, but pigmen are the only native creatures, with blazes and Magma cubes coming after the wave of magic WIther skeletons are fragments of the corrupted soul of the mage, which is why 3 of them are needed to summon the wither, which is the mages spirit using magic to blast us with other fragments of his soul. The soul sand is the fragments of his body, and is what gives him life.
How i explain the Ancient Overworld Ruins
simply put, these are structures that were so old that the magic left them untouched.
How i explain enchanting
enchanting is focusing the magic you gather from enemies and mobs through a sapphire gemstone, (aka a Lapiz Lazuli) to give items special effects. Higher receptivity of magic is why certain tiers can be enchanted better
How i explain the End
the end is the dimension of magic. This is why the dragon explodes it to so much, because it is magic incarnate. The endermen are also this, but on a smaller scale. You can summon the dragon back by focusing energy on the portal. This focuses magic on the portal, and creates another version of magic incarnate. The shulkers are what remains of an ancient race that inhabited the end before humans started using magic and the endermen and Dragon of the Ender came into existence
