Hello, I'm Wight of Shadows, and you can say I'm kind of a lore writer.
I've been inspired by a realistic look into the physics and lore behind the Minecraft universe presented by YouTuber BaccaYarro in his MC Physics Explained series. It details that the Minecraft world is a gigantic ring or loop in space, created by architects. I've taken that and some other of his speculations a step further to create my own concept of what the Minecraft world is. I should also give credit to my friend Rye for helping me sort this out.
I will post paragraphs of varying size whenever I write them up, and each paragraph will have a specific topic. I've divided the larger topics into groups where paragraphs will be categorized. I merely hope you are entertained by my work and that it gets you thinking. Currently I've posted four paragraphs of work and I will update over time. I appreciate feedback as long as it is constructive.
From Creation to Cataclysm
This section will talk about the main history of the Ring, and how it has been a long and dreary one. The ring's creation was followed by an unexplained release of humans unto the world that eventually began building grand civilizations. Their successful development and independence on the Ring interfered with the Architects' plans, which led to the beginning of The Dissension and the rise of the Two. All of those mentions sound confusing now, but they will become clearer as more paragraphs are written.
There was an organization of sorts, descended from a group of airship pirates that once ravaged the skies of the Ring. Known as the Order of the Prism, they created vast underwater establishments, protected by aquatic hybrids they aptly named Guardians, where they planned conquest and conducted military testing. Easily the most powerful order known to humanity on the Ring, the Order of the Prism conquered many lands using powerful airships and arranged with the residents of other lands to sign agreements to join the Order, which could make use of them if needed. The Order was responsible for revolutionizing human warfare on the Ring as they were the first to develop fully militarized and weaponized airships. Along with this power came a need to destroy all competition. The majority of the Order's leaders were extremely skeptical about the motivations of the recently settled Architects, whom they believed would not settle with only having claimed two fifths of the Ring. The Order acted before that question could be answered by the Architects themselves, and we will never know truly what they wished to do on that front. And
The Architects
You wonder why the world is in the shape of a Ring? How natural phenomenon could have possibly created such a shape in a celestial body? Well, the answer quite simply is, the world is not a natural phenomenon. The world was created by a group of extraterrestrial architects that were part of a species with an immense level of intelligence and technological progression, yet were so desperate for a different world that they had to create an artificial one. We shall observe what is known about the Architects’ history, society, and actions in relation to the Ring in this section.
When you hear that the Architects created a celestial body, you wonder why they didn’t just move to another planet. The problem was, they were in danger of something. What that thing was is not known, but it is clear that they wanted to move away from whatever this was, and the best place to hide was somewhere remote. The planet they found was, however, unsuitable for proper settlement, so they set up a base there and began work on the Ring instead. You might also wonder "Why a ring?" There is quite a practical explanation for that; lack of time. Even though the Architects' technological prowess far exceeded what was known to many other races, the "cataclysm" they were running from was too powerful for even them to stop. Building a massive, fully spherical structure the size of a planet would take many, many years, and plenty of millennia would have to pass before it would be completed. The Architects would still need an absolutely massive and expansive space to fit most of their species on, but they couldn't afford to take more than a single millennium before the cataclysm would reach them. A gigantic ring's underside could contain a huge amount of land while requiring the minimum possible time to complete, an ideal plan for the species's salvation. Even with all of this information that has been deduced, it is unsure to say if the Architects truly planned to dominate the entire Ring with their species, or if we were somehow a pawn in their plans.
The Inhabitants
The ring was always intended to be a haven for life that would resolve the Architects' cataclysmic issue and into a new and prosperous beginning. The Architects knew that, in order to have this haven, the Ring would need a properly balanced ecosystem of plants and animals to accompany it, in order to keep the natural processes of life running. But what you will find on the Ring in the present day is not exactly what the Architects had in mind. Some intended species have died out, while other, more sinister ones have since been born out of the great conflict that arose in the arrangement of the Ring. Those that can be cataloged, from currently existing species to those that have left enough history of their existence behind for us to know that they had existed, shall be documented here.
There is evidence that shows some of the earliest major life on the ring was likely in the form of giants. Giants are a huge part of the human culture that had made up the ring; many myths, folktales and legends revolve around them. Human excavators have encountered the fossils of what they believe to be these giants buried deep under deserts and muddy swamps. But the terms ‘giants’ does not imply a humanoid appearance; for the fossils that have indeed been discovered have varied strangely in structure and general size. Humanoid spines have indeed been found, but so have non-humanoid rib cages. Was this type of life what the Architects had in mind for the first execution of the Ring’s creation? One theory is that the Architects had originally meant to genetically engineer giants as the Ring’s main animal species, but what would be the purpose of making them giants? Would that not hinder the development of the Architects species, at least considering that they are believed to be smaller than the giants? Another theory, the most widely accepted, says that the giants were the original natural occurrence caused by the Ring’s temporary ecosystem instability, and that they were eradicated by the Architects before the next stage of their plans could take place. This is possible, yet still strange, for if bones of these giants have been preserved, they must have lived long enough on the ring to naturally die out in rather large numbers as opposed to being obliterated by the power of the Architects, which would surely be clean enough to disintegrate bone so not to disrupt the Ring’s terrain. The origin of these giants remains a mystery, but one thing is certain - they have died out since, and to public record have not been seen alive by a single human soul.
The plague has twisted our once glorious brothers.
The first strain was released by the Architects into a select handful of testificate villages. It was slow to spread, at first. Then, the corrupted testificates wandered far from their original homelands and took the remnants of the human race by utmost surprise. Their eyes had been turned towards the sky in light of recent warring with the Architects, and they therefore did not expect a new threat to come from the ground upon which they stood.
Alone, they are hardly a menace; they clamber slowly and are beaten back easily. But in a horde, they overpower any group of survivors; they destroy doors in their path and eat alive all pure forms of at least somewhat intelligent life that they can come across. They possess an uncanny amount of intelligence for what is left in them. Unlike folk tales of such creatures, which often describe them as dumb beasts that have little directional sense, the zombies of the plague can find their way through mazes and around walls to seek out their prey.
They have a major weakness, however: they can only rely on the dark to hunt. Oddly, when exposed to the sun’s rays, they burn alive from the inside out. Sometimes they have the sense to hide under shade or dunk themselves in water, but it is still quite strange that the Architects would have a rather major flaw in their development of the plague. Although it could also be an intentional side effect used by the Architects to easily eradicate them once their usefulness has degraded…
Some experimenters have discovered a way to cure the virus from at least the testificates, through a supposedly long and material-costly process, but there have been no reports of this method working on human zombies. Other, more desperate ones have found the flesh of such slain zombies to be the only, albeit absolutely rotten and sickening, form of food they can find. Such a pity to see us turned into mindless, savage monsters craving our own kind’s flesh...
The Physics
You might think that physics in the Minecraft world are, apart from blocks floating in the air, pretty similar to Earth. But this is not the case when you look at the actual density of the world that can be observed. This section will cover what is possible and not possible with the Ring's physics compared to our Earth, and some things you might find surprising.
The Terrain and Climate
This section will cover the terrain generation that forms on the ring. When the Architects first created the Ring, it had been made to have a basic but natural ecosystem of merely trees, grass, hills and valleys, two of which are hard to come by on their original planet. But millennia of extensive and brutal history have changed this ecosystem in many different ways. How, what, and why this is the case will be featured here.
