Hey guys thanks for checking out my story. This is a story about a Minecraft server, it's players, and the kingdoms they built. It will follow their rise, their golden ages, their falls, and their impacts on the world. It is loosely based off of an experience I had while running a server with a friend. I have added creative elements to it and I hope you like it. Feel free to comment, ask questions, or share some server stories of your own. Have a good day. Oh yeah I have also made maps.

The Birth Of A Kingdom
The Sever was created on June 3rd , 001 with 33 players spawning into the newly generated world. As they began to explore and build some joined together while some resisted any type of cooperation. At first there was peace as the groups worked out of each other boundaries. That was until resource rich areas were discovered leading to tensions breaking down. After an initial three days of peace conflicts began to arise. Players began fighting each other for better farming grounds, better mining spots, better defensive positions, and anything else they wanted. Warring clans were quickly formed and the area surrounding the spawn became a bitter war zone.
If a new player was to join they would find themselves in the middle of a war. Players everywhere were joining a clan with ambitions of making it the strongest. One couldn’t make it a hundred blocks from the spawn before being attacked. Order and peace in the server was just nonexistent.
The battles were unorganized and deadly. Engagements were not between two sides but involved several rival clans that all fought each other simultaneously. The victor was only truly the victor until after every enemy was slain or driven from the field. Sometimes a battle would go for hours with different clans joining in at different times. On one occasion a skirmished started between three different clans and ended with a completely different clan defeating another completely different clan, none of which had even initiated the fighting but joined in after it had started. This type of conflict went on for a week and a half until finally three clans had secured their rule over their desired domains.
The first were the Brimeans. This group of players had defeated several rivals to secure their control over a large sky mountain and the surrounding fields and woodlands. Within a day of their victory they already had farms and lumber camps emerging with several outposts throughout their domain. They claimed to be the strongest and were the only faction that had a diamond sword. They ruled just north of the spawn with their border touching a small tip of the spawn zone.
The second was the Hellenistic Kingdom that ruled a mountain valley north-east of the spawn and just across a wide river from the Brimeans territory. These players had not only defeated their rivals but also beaten back the Brimeans. By June 15th the Brimeans and Hellenistic Kingdom had fought their way to be the remaining two clans in the area. They would continue to fight for three days as the Brimeans tried to take Hellenistic’s ore rich mountain valley. Hellenistic defensives would prove too much and a peace agreement was signed on June 18th officially ending the twelve day Great Clan War.
The third clan was the Aaorn Rangers. They had brutally fought for their jungle island almost five hundred blocks south of the Spawn Zone. Their cunning tactics of ambush and stealth wiped out their rivals by June 12th and within days they had built a sophisticated network of tree lookouts connected by bridges. A tree fortress was in the middle and they claimed it to be, impenetrable. They helped to mediate the peace agreement on June 18th and served as a pacifier between the Brimeans and Hellenistic Kingdom. The “Big Three” rose from being clans into grand factions with huge swaths of territory now under their control.
With war no longer ravaging the land and killing off the server population there was an increase in activity and in players. As more and more players joined the server a system of travel and commerce began to form between the factions. Roads were built and each faction shared the responsibility of guarding and maintaining them. Population hubs began to form and players enjoyed the security of being able to build a home without it getting griefed. Each faction strictly supported a no griefing rule and anyone caught griefing was immediately executed.
Players who joined a faction were given permission to build their homes inside that faction’s territory while players who didn’t join a faction had to build outside of faction borders. Communities began to form outside of the territories and alongside the road networks with some even becoming huge trading centers. Valencia, a town south of the Hellenistic Kingdom, grew to a population of seventeen while another town just south of the Brimeans, Timor, had a population of eleven. These two towns became focal points of culture, commerce, literature, and philosophy as many players met to openly converse. While this was beneficial for the cultivation of the server it began to worry the factions.
They soon feared that another faction might emerge and their power would be diminished. As more and more players joined, the three factions noticed that their recruits grew less and less. Valencia and Timor grew in size while more living communities emerged throughout the region. It was becoming clear that newly arrived players did not want to join a faction. So in secrecy the leaders of the three factions met to agree on one thing, no other faction should emerged and each of them would play their part in keeping it that way. The balance of power had to be kept and they were willing to kill any players who dared to challenge that. The Big Three Agreement was signed on June 26th legalizing the pact between the three.
June ended and the server celebrated its first successful month. Server population was in the fifties nearing the sixties and for the last 12 days there had been peace. Besides for a few mining accidents and monster run-ins no player was killed. It seemed as if things kept going like this peace would be kept and the three factions could stay in power, but July would change all that.
The Rise and Fall Of The Trolls
With the chaos of the Tribal Wars over a fragile peace settled. Players were spawning on a daily basis and the three factions soon found themselves overwhelmed and unable to control the population spike. Robberies began to occur, griefing was starting to go unpunished, and the first server murder occurred on July 4th. On July 6th a group of nomadic players had joined together with one sole purpose, to troll the hell out of everyone. Lava pits began to occur with homes being blown to bits by TNT. The factions tried cracking down on them but their guerrilla style of warfare and their ever changing positions made them hard to track; the Trolls were slowly but surely gaining momentum. It wasn’t fun to join a faction and obey rules, it was fun to do whatever you want and that is how the Trolls recruited people. “Do whatever you want.”
The players were no longer able to count on the factions to protect them so in return they began to form their own militias. Valencia built several watchtowers, constantly had guards patrol the area, and had stone outposts surrounding the town. The Hellenistic Kingdom didn’t quite like the idea of a well armed and organized city state just south of them but they frankly couldn’t do anything about it. Trolls had been destroying their mines and their military was focused on defending their valuable mines and not keeping Valencia in line. So they approved the arming of Valencia and even agreed to coordinate with them in the effort of eliminating the Trolls. This was significant because this approval acknowledged that Valencia was allowing another organized state of players to form.
The Brimeans had done a good job with keeping the trolls out of the territory but they couldn’t protect the areas surrounding their borders. The several communities that surrounded the borders of the Brimeans were now building walls to protect themselves. To make matters even worse the city of Timor built a complex and well fortified wall around them and had an extremely well armed population. When the Brimeans demanded that they remove the wall and disarm the Timor residents, Timorians, refused. They claimed that they had the right to protect themselves against the Trolls and that they would fight for that right. The Brimeans were enraged. To the Brimeans the Trolls were no longer their biggest problem, Timor had to be dealt with. In response to Brimean aggression Timor and the other communities in the area joined together forming The Lapaz Union, war between the two was inevitable.
While things looked bad for the Brimeans and the Hellenistic Kingdom things were way worse for the Aaorn Rangers. All roads to them had been destroyed by the Trolls and every community surrounding their territory had been pillaged. The Aaorn Rangers begged for help but none came, the other factions had their own problems to deal with. It became clear that the barbaric Trolls were putting much of their energy towards destroying the Aaorn Rangers. By July 11th no one was going to or coming from the Jungle Isle of the Aaorn Rangers as Trolls ambushed anyone surrounding the territory. The Aaorn Rangers desperately tried to break the encirclement but the destructive tactics of the Trolls made that impossible. Lava rivers were created to trap the Aaorn Rangers in and huge moats were dug to slow down anyone trying to run away. By July 12th all Troll activity north of the spawn and around the Brimeans and Hellenistic Kingdom stopped. They had all relocated south to group together for a coordinated pillage and destruction of the Rangers Jungle Isle.
The Last Battle of the Rangers
Even though they were surrounded, cut off, and on their own the Rangers still had hope. They had been around since the beginning of the server and they had fought off dozens of rivals to get where they were. As well as that their Jungle Isle had an intricate system of defenses that were not going to be taken without a fight. The Rangers were well armed and had a lot of resources with the capabilities of lasting through a lengthy siege. They were ready to defend.
The battle began on the morning of July 13th with a massive force of fifty Trolls charging each side of the Jungle Isle. Rangers on top of the trees and in watchtowers began to rain arrows on them. Boats were broken leaving Trolls bobbing in the water as they swam for the shore. Unfortunately the large number of trolls made it hard for an archer to hit the same target twice. The Trolls easily made it across the water and were storming up the shores of the island.
Rangers armed with diamond spears and axes confronted them. They blocked narrow pathways forcing the Trolls to fight in small pockets. The lightly armored Trolls couldn’t go pound for pound against the better armed Rangers who began hacking away at them. Yet the superior numbers of the Trolls began to prove worthy as they started pushing back the Rangers.
As the battle continued small holes were punched through the defensives and Trolls were able to get through. They, armed with flint and steel, began to wreak havoc amongst the mostly wooden defensives as they began to set fire to the trees. Huge blazes broke out and whole sections of the jungle began to burn. Rangers who were amongst the trees had no escape and burned to death. Others were forced to jump to their death as they rather risk the fall than burn. From below Rangers cried out to their brothers in the trees who replied, “Fight On!”
While the fighting raged a group of Trolls worked on building a large one block tower that went straight up into the sky. After going well above the tree line on the island they began building a bridge that stretched across the water and towards the Rangers jungle island base. Rangers tried shooting them with arrows but striking a hit was too hard. By the time the Rangers had killed a few of them it was too late, the Trolls had gotten into position. What followed were lava buckets being poured onto the bridge with large streams falling towards the jungle isle below.
Rangers looked up in horror to see walls of lava descending onto their jungle island. Their homes, their base, everything they had built was about to be destroyed. As soon as the first lava stream touched the tree line the Rangers knew that it was over. They were no longer the Rangers but now players desperate to get what they could and get the hell out before the whole island was covered in lava. Defenses broke down, trees caught fire, players fell into the lava, and the Trolls began pillaging.
Forty minutes after the battle begun the island was in flames with lava rivers overflowing to the shores. Trees were engulfed in flames, the magnificent tree fortress was covered in lava and players were becoming trapped by the fire. The Trollish tactic had worked but it had also trapped the Trolls themselves. When defenses broke down the Trolls took the moment to pillage what they could. They ran further into the island and went into wooden homes, went into tree outposts, and pretty much went into any building to steal what they could. Trolls were soon finding themselves engulfed in flames or surrounded by lava as the destruction of the island intensified. By the first hour mark fighting between the Trolls and remaining Rangers had ceased, everyone was busy trying to escape the island. The whole jungle was in flames and the shore of the island was filled with lava. The remaining Rangers, now below ten, made their final escape by fleeing into their underground mines. They took with them what they could carry and were gone. After an hour and a half the jungle island was no longer a jungle island but instead a land of lava. The few remaining Rangers were deep in their mine shafts and the Trolls were now swimming back across the water away and to the banks they had charged from. The battle was over and the Aaorn Rangers no longer continued to exist as a faction.
The Trolls had proved that their Trollish tactics could destroy a fortified base, but is also proved costly. Most of their fighters had died in the battle and their leader, a player named Goomba, had died as well. They were left unorganized and without a purpose. To add insult to injury those who had made it back from the fighting came back with little or no loot.
On July 14th a well armed scouting party of ten Valencian and fifteen Hellenistic soldiers came to see what had happened. The Trolls, who had remained simply because they didn’t know what else to do, were chased away. Some tried to fight but were killed and others were captured and then promptly executed. The majority of them fled into the wild where they died of hunger, were killed by monsters, fell into a cave, or were killed from a fellow a Troll who wanted their stuff. The unorganized and “do what you want” concept of the Trolls made them powerful but in the end it ultimately led to their downfall. Their impact on the server was huge and threw it into a new age of conflict. With the Aaorn Rangers no longer in the picture the south of the spawn was now up for grabs and a power vacuum had been created.
The Brimean War: Part One
By July 15th the server knew of what had happened but reactions to it were limited. This was due to bigger issues evolving as the Brimeans declared war on The Lapaz Union that night. The two sides of players began their preparations for war. Soldiers got dressed in their best suites of armors and builders began constructing camps, small towers, and defensive barriers. These types of structures were built all throughout the region giving both sides of players’ positions to defend and counter attack from. They would become the focal point of the fighting as the war intensified.
As war broke out on the west side of Sügav River the east side of the river had a wave of unity amongst players from both the Hellenisitic Kingdom and the surrounding civil states, espeicially from Valencia. When compared to the way the Brimeans had responded to Timor the Valencians greatly admired their bigger neighbors to the north. The Hellenistic Kingdom had coordinated with them when they mobilizated into a well armed community to defend against the barbaric Trolls who had invaded earlier in the month.
The Brimeans immediately called upon The Hellenistic Kingdom to honor The Big Three Agreement they had signed back in June. The Hellenistic Kingdom scoffed, claiming that the agreement was now void for several reasons. One being that the Aaorn Rangers, one of the signees, no longer existed thus making The Big Three Agreement no longer valid. Another one being that the Lapaz Union was not a faction but a union of independent city states with no real territories besides their own homes. The Brimeans were furious but with their hands already full they let it go.
The Brimeans had mobilized into a rather spectacular force. Every officer was fully suited in iron and wielded a diamond sword while every soldier had at least a full set of armor. They outnumbered The Lapaz Union in manpower and Brimean engineers had developed the servers first ever “machine” of war. In reality they weren’t really machines but instead obsidian structures capable of launching explosive TNT. Even though the concept was rather primitive it was still a very destructive tactic.
On July 16th Brimean troops marched down from their mountain peak promptly sweeping into the farming valleys below. There to meet them were the militias of The Lapaz Union coming to defend their crop fields. The fighting was intense and scattered with engagements breaking out all across the valley. Soldiers engaged in wheat fields, fought in barn houses, and charged each other’s quickly built stone towers. Some skirmishes between groups of four or five players lasted an hour. The players would engage for five, ten, or fifteen minutes depending on size and then retreat. Both sides would take time to either fortify a defensive spot or make better armor and fully heal before engaging again. The Lapaz Union was unable to stand up against the Brimeans on the open field so they were forced back. The Brimeans pushed their advance and by sunset several city states were in flames.
Throughout the night the fighting intensified with Brimeans starting to surround Timor. By morning Timor was the last city state standing against the Brimean tide and the Timorians were preparing for a defense. Across the river The Hellenistic Kingdom and the Valencians anxiously watched.
While the Brimeans began constructing their obsidian TNT launchers the Hellenistic Kingdom and Valencian Council met. They both shared their dislike towards the Brimeans and how they were a very aggressive faction. They were also concerned with the potential fall of Timor and defeat of the Lapaz Union. If they were to lose no one would stand in the way of the Brimeans and they would be the sole rulers of the west side of the river and the majority of the northern spawn zone. The Brimeans had attacked the Hellenistic Kingdom before, what would stop them from doing it again once they became more powerful? These fears grew into legitimate concerns with the Hellenistic Kingdom and Valencia preparing for war.
On July 17th while Brimean forces began their TNT bombardment of Timor the armies of Valencia and the Hellenistic Kingdom launched their assault. Without warning they quickly sailed across Sugav River and stormed the coastline. The Brimeans were caught completely off guard and desperately sent a small group of soldiers teamed with a large number of their builders and miners. While the builders had some experience with monsters they were still novices in player versus player warfare. As for the Brimean miners well they were some of the best fighters in the whole server. They were also some of the best miners so their value served in the caves, fighting monsters at every turn, scaling steep walls over lava pits, and digging up valuable ores. They were more than capable of fighting another player.
Throughout the day the Brimeans battled with the invading Valencian and Hellenistic soldiers. As night time fell the Brimeans were able to stabilize a defensive position but they had lost a considerable amount of land. The morning of July 18th dawned and when the Brimean king looked out from his mountain peak he saw that the river shore and east fields had been lost and his men were struggling to hold the surrounding foot hills.
The Timorians launched a series of counter attacks resulting in the besieging Brimeans being forced to retreat. A lot of their soldiers had been sent to hold the line so the majority of Brimeans consisted of armed engineers. They fled from their obsidian TNT launchers retreating back to the mountain peak. The Timorians rejoiced and then joined in on the assault. The Lapaz Union had been saved after all.
Players fought back in forth all along the mountain side. Spears were thrown down the mountain while arrows were shot back. Brimean defenders started dropping TNT onto the attacking players leaving huge blown open gaps in the mountainside. Some unlucky players were even thrown from the mountainside dying as they crashed into the ground. Players showed no remorse as they fought each other in the bitter struggle.
July 18th dragged on with a pause in the fighting at night time. Many monsters, upon hearing about the war amongst the players, had swarmed to the area. The players momentarily turned their attention away from each other as they rushed to hide in dugouts. Once the sunrise of July 19th broke through the clouds the monsters retreated into darkness and the players resumed the slaughter.
The Brimean War: Part 2
July 19th saw heavy fighting in the morning as the assaulting coalition force resumed their assaults. Players charged up the mountains edge and stormed the towers and walls that were along the mountain side. Brimean defenders held back several assaults keeping the high ground, by midday the coalition stopped their assaults. They had been unable to break through Brimean defenders and were now coming up with new strategies. The Brimeans had been pushed up to the walls of High Mountain City, their capital and home to their king and royal palace. High Mountain City had been the first city the Brimeans had ever built and it was well fortified with thick walls and fortified ramparts. Throughout the night of July 19th Valencian and Timorian miners dug through the mountain and right underneath a large section of the wall. The Brimeans were rudely awakened on July 20th with several huge TNT blasts. A good portion of the wall was now leveled and a coalition of Hellenistic, Valencian, and Timorian players poured through.
Street to street, house to house, and room to room fighting followed as players battled each other all throughout the city. The Brimeans were on their last leg and with their backs up against the wall their defenses began to crumble. Brimeans began to run for their lives. Some fled to their homes to collect their valuables and flee. Others ran for their lives not even sparing time to get their supplies. Players everywhere were making a break for it. Hidden tunnels were now revealed and some players were even jumping from the mountains edge aiming for water below. Unfortunately many of them miscalculated their falls. As the lines began to collapse a very few of the Brimeans remained fighting but without the help of their comrades they quickly fell to the blade. By the time the sun was just starting to set on the evening of July 20th the Brimeans had been defeated. What remained of Mountain High was a smoldering pile of rock and rubble with damaged structures and dead bodies.
The server rejoiced! The Brimeans had been defeated and peace had finally been restored. Huge feasts all across the valley were held and the cities of Valencia and Timor held parades honoring the Hellenistic Kingdom and their support for freedom. It was clear that cooperation between the three was a for sure thing and that war, for now, was no longer a concern.
What came first was dividing up the spoils of war. The Brimeans were rich people and a lot of gold and iron had been looted. The gold was divided up evenly between the three. Half of the iron went to the Hellenistic Kingdom and the other half split between Timor and Valencia. When it came to diamonds the three didn’t see eye to eye. The Hellenistic kingdom wanted to store them in a secured location for future events, Valencia wanted to integrate them into the economy, and Timor wanted to split them up. The three finally did find something to agree on and that was to destroy them all. They were all thrown into lava. Everything else was evenly split up and the warriors who took part were given extra loot.
The second thing that came was the division of the Brimean kingdom and who would get what piece of land. The Lapaz Union, made up of mostly Timorians, wanted everything south of the sky mountain, to the west bank of the Sugav River, along the east side of the spawn zone, and westward into a large plain. The Hellenistic Kingdom and Valencia agreed with the request. In return the Hellenistic Kingdom took the rolling fields north of the sky mountain on both sides of the river and all the way north to the mouth of the Sugav River where a swamp land began. They expanded their borders around the northern mountains and into the valleys below successfully claiming a full mountain biome. As for Valencia well they didn’t want much. They only wanted the right to start another city, south east and in a woodlands biome. Approval was granted and the Valencians founded another city dubbed Trenton. The Kingdom of Valencia had been formed. From the original big three The Hellenistic Kingdom was the only one that remained. The kingdom had proven itself to be strong and stable and players considered it as the regional superpower. So with the fall of the Brimeans a new era of kingdoms had been born.
The Brief Peace
July followed with the reconstruction of the land. Mountain High, the ruined capitol of the Brimeans, was left as it was to serve as a reminder of the destruction of war. The higher regions of the sky mountain were left alone as well simply because building on them would really serve no purpose. The base of the sky mountain and surrounding foothills turned into mining camps as players picked away at coal, red stone, and lapaz that the Brimeans had no interest to grab. The destroyed city states of the Lapaz Union were not rebuilt but instead reinforced to serve as fortresses. Timor had been severely damaged from the bombing so reconstruction on it took some time. Hellenistic builders helped to rebuild farms and Valencian engineers built better and bigger roads connecting the kingdoms of the server.
On July 27th the Hellenistic Kingdom sent an exploration party north, they wanted to see what was beyond the swamp lands and see where the water led to. The exploration party that was sent got two hundred blocks before they were ambushed. Witches and spiders who called the swamps their home swarmed the players. The five soldiers and seven explorers were overwhelmed as they tried to fight back. Only one explorer made her escape and made it back to the Hellenistic Kingdom where she shared the news. The Hellenistic Kingdom became alarmed to learn about the Witch and Spider Spawner Realm just north of them. If they wanted to continue to explore the water ways they had to remove the spawner.
While the Hellenistic Kingdom dealt with their issue the Kingdom of Valencia enjoyed a period of commercial growth. They became the leading trader of lumber, sapling, furniture, charcoal, and dye. They had the most gold and began to show their wealth as noblemen of the kingdom began wearing full gold suits.
The Lapaz Union became more of a farming realm as many players migrated towards the open fields. Timor remained as the only grand city in the region and became the center of the areas commerce, administration, and activity. It grew in size and population becoming the biggest city in the game with a population of thirty nine and counting. While players migrated to build farms, raise livestock, and harvest the land the Timorian council ordered for more outpost to be built. Monster raids could be quickly reported and within minutes a company of soldiers could be dispatched to the area.
July 29th saw the defeat of a small Hellenistic company that tried to set up camp just outside of the swamp lands. Witches and spiders launched heavy assaults on their positions taking the lives of seven Hellenistic players while causing the rest to flee. The Hellenistic Kingdom had to reassess on how to deal with the spawner. So for the meantime they fortified the desert shores of the swamp and began making underground explorations. Hellenistic philosophers or “game thinkers” had come up with a new idea for territorial expansion which would also benefit trade and travel. They believed in digging long underground caves that would travel for hundreds or even thousands of blocks before breaking out onto the surface. In the caves they could build underground trading centers and mining towns and on the surface they could build new camps, forts, and towns claiming new surface area. This way the Hellenistic Kingdom could expand their influence and power while also keeping the center of their kingdom well controlled and protected. The Hellenistic king and council agreed to the idea and miners were sent to begin the project.
July came to a close with a server wide celebration. The month had started in bloodshed but had ended in peace. Each kingdom was experiencing a period of success and they were happily living next to each other working for server wide growth. The idea of war and any reason for it was now completely out of the picture. The only conflict at hand was with the witches and spiders north, but they were being ignored for the time being.
August saw more players joining the server and being integrated into the world. More and more community hubs began opening up and the boarders of the world expanded. When some players explored the water paths around the northern swamp and into a large north river they discovered the existence of another kingdom. Giant wooden towers blocked the river and players dressed in iron quickly arrested the explorers. The players were questioned and then released to return south to bring news of this kingdom to the others.
The land was called The Corinthian Empire. The Corinthian Empire was founded by four of the original players who had spawned with the server. Instead of staying around the spawn to form a clan and fight, they fled north. After getting a safe distance they settled down and began building their kingdom. Unfortunately during the early stages of their growth one of the four died but with more and more players adventuring in their direction their numbers slowly grew. As the Troll and Brimean wars broke out south players who were escaping the conflict found The Corinthian Empire as a northern safe haven.
Upon hearing the news of a new kingdom the Lapaz Union, Kingdom of Valencia, and Hellenistic Kingdom wanted to open relationships with the land. Yet The Corinthian Empire politely declined saying that they should rule separate and independent from one another to avoid potential conflict. They were a good distance a part and already had their own spheres of influence. They had little reason to build roads to one another and their economies were already completely independent. The Corinthian Empire insisted that “If players between our realms want to trade then let them do the traveling. Why should we be responsible for building non-important roads that would be costly to manage and guard? I support the peaceful coexistence between our two peoples as we each rule over our distant and separate lands.” The three kingdoms around the spawn had little to argue against. The Corinthian Empire wanted to be left alone and so they respected that desire.
August saw the expansion of the Lapaz Union as more and more players were expanding their farming zones. Soon enough another independent city state, Aspin, had emerged east of Timor and close the borders of the Lapaz Union. Aspin was only a few hundred blocks south from a large chain of mountains so it quickly grew in size as aspiring merchants, builders, explorers, and miners took up residency in the city. Within two days the city formed a council. On August 6th the Timorian council, rulers of the Lapaz Union, started to pay closer attention to the city. Soon enough they had spies in the walls of Aspin collecting information to bring back. On August 8th a spy was caught, the Aspinites were furious.
They had never once thought of Timor or The Lapaz Union as an enemy or even a threat. To them they considered themselves another city state with potential of joining the Lapaz Union. Yet it became clear that Timor saw them as a threat and tensions between the two began to boil. Players of the Lapaz union disliked this tension because they to consider the Aspinites to be friendly neighbors. When the tension began to rise the players of the Lapaz Union began to notice an error in how their administration operated.
The Brimean War had destroyed all other city states besides Timor. After the war and during reconstruction the ruins were turned into forts and farms were built for players to live on. The players, happy that peace had been restored and that they were getting free farms were more than grateful to accept the situation. Yet in doing so they gave up their ability to properly defend themselves behind a wall. As well as not being able to form a “city council” and have a role in administering the union. Timor, being the only city after the war took over the responsiblity of administrating and the Timorian council became the sole ruling body. Timorian players weren’t players, they were Timorians, and players in the farm lands weren’t Timorians, they were farmers. Disunity began to spread amongst the Lapaz Union.
Some farmers were so far from Timor that they never even went there. Other farmers found Aspin to be a better city so they traveled there instead, even when it was out of the way. As August went on the Timorian council began to lose their grip.
On August 9th a tribe of barbaric Trolls swept into the land. Their three leaders were veteran Trolls of the First Troll War who had managed to escape and survive in the wild. They had recruited more troll like players and returned to get revenge. They invaded the southern borders of Valencia but were met by a coalition of Hellenistic and Valencian soldiers.
August 9th saw several battles as the Trolls were defeated time and time again at several different places. On August 10th Hellenistic and Valencian soldiers went on the hunt and began tracking and chasing down the Trolls. The Trolls, hiding in their underground bunkers or mountain side caves were driven from their positions. They lacked the coordination and better armor to fight against the well trained forces of Valencia and The Hellenistic Kingdom. By the morning of the 11th they had been driven from the land with all of them being chased down and slaughtered. Two Hellenistic soldiers even went three thousand blocks chasing down their enemies. The Second Troll War was short with the Trolls being easily driven out and butchered to their last player.
August 10th also saw the activist work by several players to change the political set up in The Lapaz Union. Many Lapaz Union players had gathered together under the leadership of one player named SolomonBrown and demanded that two separate councils be formed to rule alongside the Timorian council. First they wanted a “Farmers Council” that would represent the farmers and their interests. Second they wanted a “Commons Council” that would represent the common player living in the territory. This council was for the builders, merchants, artisans, miners, and whoever else lived throughout the region. The Timorian council didn’t respond.
When the Timorian council ignored the demands SolomonBrown ordered builders to start constructing defensive forts and began to organize councils. The Timorian council was furious and called upon the soldiers of the Lapaz Union to mobilize against SolomonBrown and his supporters. The military was mobilized but it’s numbers had significantly decreased as soldiers defected to join SolomonBrown. Not everyone disliked the Timorian council though and some non-Timor residents honored the call and unity of the Lapaz Union. The two sides of players mobilized and a civil war loomed over The Lapaz Union.
SolomonBrown, not wanting another war to ravage the land, asked if the Timorian council could meet and discuss the issue at hand. The Timorian council agreed but when SolomonBrown arrived to Timor he was promptly arrested. This led to riots erupting throughout the land and Timorian outposts were being attacked rioters. When Timor refused to release SolomonBrown the mobilized players under his leadership declared war. The Lapaz Civil War had begun on August 12th.
The Lapaz Civil War
Two sides had been formed. One that was loyal to the Timorian council and the union it had created and the other were rebels supporting the ideas of SolomonBrown. Both the union and rebels looked to Valencia and the Hellenistic Kingdom for help but they refused. They wanted to be left out of the conflict as yet again the west side of the river was in warfare.
Aspin however began to secretly arm the rebels. They began supplying them suites of armor and iron swords. Some Aspin volunteers even joined up with the rebels and fought alongside them in their struggle against Timor. Throughout August 13th the sides fought each other across the farms and towns of the Lapazian fields.
Groups of players clashed on large wheat fields destroying the crops around them. Players hacked and slashed at each other as they battled back and forth. Some wheat fields were even turned into minefields as players buried TnT blocks. On one occasion a group of five union players were obliverated after stepping on a pressure plate that erupted ten TnT blocks surrounding them. This tactic led to many farms being utterly destroyed.
Towns were not spared either as the two sides engaged each other. Rebel players defended each town while union players fought tooth and nail to take them. Homes were turned into small forts and bell towers were turned into watch towers. The fighting in these towns were sometimes the bloodiest as rebel and union soldiers fought in close quarters.
Refugees fled in all directions with a good portion of them fleeing north into The Corinthian Empire. The Corinthian Empire took those who were skilled players while rejecting a large number of them. The Corinthian Empire even went as far as chasing out the unwanted players from their regions, many either perished in the wild or were forced to return back to the war torn regions south. The rebels proved effective in combat and union assaults on their main positions were repulsed. By the end of the 13th the two sides were at a stalemate.
On August 14th the Kingdom of Valencia and Hellenistic Kingdom met. They praised each other for their friendly cooperation and made an alliance. The two had long been friends and it was time for them to officiate it. They signed the Eastern Alliance agreeing to protect each other in the time of warfare.
August 14th only saw more fighting on the west side of the river. Rebels had stopped several union assaults and were now starting to counter attack. They didn’t have the strength to overtake well defended Timorian built structures so they were forced to halt. Later in the day the union tried attacking once again but they too were stopped by rebel defenders.
Throughout the night the two sides built obsidian TNT structures and began bombarding each other’s positions. By the dawn of August 15th the valleys between them were filled with destroyed buildings and large craters. As the day continued the two sides continued to fight. Charges against defensive positions were costly as both arrows and explosive TNT rained down on the attacker. Gregory_Mint, a player fighting for the rebels recorded what the combat was like.
"It was midday and our captain had us organize into small groups of three. After we had been organized our captain explained what our goal was. Union soldiers had taken a small hill fort in the morning and were now bombarding allied positions throughout the area. Our job was to storm the fort and take it back, simple enough right? We set out at about midday marching towards our objective which was a little over a hundred blocks away. Along the way we encountered several union scouting parties but after short engagements they quickly retreated, soon enough we were at the base of the hill and could see the fort on top.
Together we all charged the hill cursing at the enemy as we ran. I got about twenty blocks up the hill before the union defenders opened fire on us. Arrows came from everywhere and I was hit several times being knocked back into a small cave. Before I could even rejoin the charge I fell to the ground as dozens of explosions began occurring. TNT blocks flew in every direction towards us blowing large holes in the side of the hill and killing handfuls of players at a time. When I tried to rejoin the charge I was thrown back down the hill by an explosion and crashed violently into a tree. The damage took over half my hearts leaving me with not enough to continue the assault, but by now the assault had obviously failed.
I pulled out my bow and desperately tried to cover my retreating comrades, but sadly it was in vain. I watched in horror as my comrades were blown to bits or shot down by an arrow. Union defenders had now left their fort and were now on the counter attack. I fired several more arrows then with nothing else to do I retreated. The union soldiers chased us all the way back to our fort before stopping. They attacked twenty minutes later but suffered the same fate we did as our archers and TNT launchers wreaked havoc on their charge. This type of fighting continued to occur throughout the day.”
With losses mounting up both sides found their resources being drained. Aspin was now supplying large amounts of food, supplies, weapons, and armor to the rebels while Timor was draining its reserve stock of iron to keep its troops protected. The Timorians were now becoming frustrated with the lack of progress so they mobilized one of their most elite group of players. This group of players, known as the Timorian Guards, were highly skilled fighters only called upon in emergency situations. They were veterans of The First Troll War and The Brimean War and were fully suited in diamond. They even had diamond enchanted weapons. In the morning of August 16th they marched into the field and began to wreak havoc.
Rebel soldiers lacked the equipment to combat the group of players and were slowly being pushed back. The Timorian Guards were breaking through position after positions and by the end of August 16th the rebels were in full retreat. Throughout the night the rebels turned towards a more guerilla style of combat and left defensive positions to hide in underground dugouts and caves.
The rebels began to conduct hit and run tactics on union soldiers causing frustration amongst the Timorian council. The Timorian council claimed that the rebels had become Trolls because they were not fighting in a conventional fashion and were hiding in dugouts and ambushing. The Timorian council wanted the Hellenistic Kingdom to help them in destroying these new trolls but the Hellenistic Kingdom refused. They claimed that while the rebels might be using Trollish tactics the Timorian council had displayed Brimean like aggression and that the Hellenistic Kingdom didn’t support either group. The Timorian council no longer contacted the Hellenistic Kingdom for help.
By August 17th much of the territorial land in the Lapaz region had been taken back by the union but a large number of rebels still existed. They hid in farm houses, underground caves and tunnels, in the fields, and amongst the players of the region. The Timorian council had also discovered the assistance that Aspin was giving the rebels and called them out on it. They claimed that the Aspinites were guilty of supporting an enemy of theirs thus making them an enemy as well. Aspin became worried that after defeating the rebels the union would come for them. So with hopes of saving their friends and holding back Timorian power Aspin joined the conflict taking part in The Lapaz Civil War.
Aspin had a small yet well trained and well supplied army. What made the Aspinite army extremely effective was their large stock of golden apples. In combat Aspinite players could take huge sums of damage, quickly regenerate it, and rejoin the conflict. From August 17th to August 19th Aspinite, rebel, and union players battled each other across the land.
While Aspin soldiers fought across an organized line the rebels would strike behind union defensives taking out roads, supply depots, and small poorly unarmed groups of players. Rebels would also strike at reinforcement columns heading towards the front often inflicting several casualties before retreating into a cave, hole, or tunnel. As August 20th approached it became clear that the war was going to simply drag on. For eight days the war destroyed the land and there was no end in sight.
The Corinthian Empire initially tried to ignore the conflict but as the war intensified it could no longer sit by. Refugees were flocking to their land in large numbers and The Corinthian Empire was fearful of city states emerging in their region, which they did not want at all. The Corinthian Empire sent envoys to the Hellenistic Kingdom carrying a very truthful yet rather insulting message to the kingdom. They said that the Hellenistic Kingdom was the regional superpower and that the order, security, and balance of the region was their responsibility. They accused the Hellenistic Kingdom of letting their area of influence fall into disorder and chaos because they did nothing to stop The Lapaz Civil War from breaking out. They went on to say that if The Hellenistic Kingdom didn’t act as a regional superpower and bring an end to the war then The Corinthian Empire would have no choice but to come and do it themselves. The Hellenistic Kingdom was upset, but they saw the message as true.
On August 21st Hellenistic emissaries were able to coordinate a cease fire to the war and representatives from all sides met to discuss their terms. The rebels wanted freedom from the Lapaz Union and the right to form their own independent state of players. Both the Hellenistic Kingdom and the Timorian council refused this for different reasons. The Timorian council wanted to keep their power and their current borders. As for the Hellenistic Kingdom well they simply didn’t want yet another faction in the area. Aspin just wanted the war to end and the promise that Timor would not try to seek revenge on them. They also wanted some kind of buffer zone created between them and Timor for security reasons. The Timorian council refused again, they wanted the Aspin council removed and a council of their own reinstated and that Aspin join the Lapaz Union. Negotiations could not be met so on the night of August 21st union soldiers went on the offensive.
They began burning farms, blowing up caves, and arresting anyone they thought to be a rebel. They brought obsidian TNT launchers to their front line and began bombing Aspin positions. The union was in all out attack mode. The Hellenistic Kingdom grew impatient.
They again ordered a cease fire and brought together the representatives of each side. Instead of asking what they wanted the Hellenisitc Kingdom had a different approach, they told them what was going to happen. The rebels would be given permission to be free from the union but they were not given permission to form their own faction. Instead they were granted the right to build city states of their own with each city state having its own council. Each city state would rule its own boundary and operate independently from the next. To ensure mutual cooperation and peaceful existence Hellenistic officials would administer the region. As for Aspin they would get the peace and promise that they wanted. Lastly the Lapaz Union would be dissolved and Timor would become a faction of its own. The territory of the union would be split between Timor and the city states and Timor would be given the right to expand southward along the Sugav River and west into the valleys. Every side besides the Timorian council accepted the deal. The Hellenistic Kingdom declared war.
On August 22nd a massive army of Hellenistic soldiers marched across the river and right to the walls of Timor. The Timorians, once seeing the massive army that had formed against them surrendered. They agreed to accept the deal that the Hellenistic Kingdom had proposed a day earlier thus ending The Lapaz Civil War. The Kingdom of Valencia mitigated the agreement as the warring powers signed. After ten long days of destructive warfare the region was now at peace.
Order had once again been restored to the region. Cooperation was reestablished and players began to once again freely trade and converse. Underneath the surface though was a deeper tension, a tension between global powers. The Corinthian Empire had made it clear that if needed they would interfere with southern server affairs. Below the covers a mutual struggle began to arise out of Hellenistic and Corinthian players. They both secretly wanted the other to collapse.
The Era of Expansion
Both the Corinthian Empire and Hellenistic Kingdom were the server super powers. The Hellenistic Kingdom was strong in unity and stability while the Corinthian Empire had the pleasure of being alone with natural barriers protecting its heartland. The two were still far from each other but with a growing server population it was only a matter of time before events tangled them together. Yet for now there was sustainable peace. The Hellenistic Kingdom was in no rush to fight and neither were the Corinthians. They both had more important matters to attend to.
The Hellenistic Kingdom had successfully established a foothold over the inland valleys west of the Sugav when they oversaw the creation of the Lapazian City States. On paper the Lapazian City States were a collection of independent cities with separate councils. Their independence was protected by The Hellenistic Kingdom and the kingdom had officials in the region that had the responsibility of sustaining peace and order. In reality the Lapazian City States had slyly been turned into a puppet state, a puppet state that the Hellenistic Kingdom could use to spread their influence further into the world.
August 26th saw the Hellenistic Kingdom begin a campaign of removing monster spawners located in the underground caves beneath their kingdom. In abandoned mineshafts and stronghold champers Hellenistic soldiers battled with monsters for control. While the Hellenistic Kingdom continued to avoid confrontation with the swamp monsters north they bravely embraced combat with the dungeon monsters below. Slowly but surely Hellenistic soldiers made gains and began destroying the spawners.
While the Hellenistic Kingdom fought monsters the Corinthian Empire fought players. A resource rich canyon had been discovered near their borders and southern server players flocked to the area. They built cave homes and mining quarters and spent their days picking away at the valuable ores. The Corinthian Empire also had an interest in this region so they quickly tried to disperse these small bands of miners.
Corinthian soldiers began occupying ravines and anyone without permission to mine were either forced to leave or arrested if they refused to leave. Some miners were even killed as they tried to forcefully resist the Corinthian Empire. Armed resistance amongst the miners soon occurred and small skirmishes broke out throughout the canyons’. Miners put TNT in their homes and mining shafts leaving deadly booby traps for Corinthian soldiers. When a soldier came to search the area they would trigger the TNT by a pressure plate causing an explosion that was usually fatal.
In some ravines miners fortified their homes and mining areas so that they could fight back and hopefully defend against Corinthian soldiers. The narrow ledges and steep cliffs made it hard for Corinthian soldiers to take over these ravines. At first they tried to climb down the sides but miners would shoot arrows at them knocking soldiers off their ladders who would die when crashing into the ravine basin below. In turn they had to pour lava down the ravines which forced the miners to either run out from their homes or get burned by the lava. News of these actions quickly spread around the server and the Corinthian Empire was becoming disliked amongst the common player. By the 1st of September the Corinthian Empire had cleared out the canyons but not after a total of thirty two players had been killed, including miners and soldiers. Yet to the server this was a mere minor conflict, to the average player the server was rather peaceful. To the Corinthian Empire it was worth it for they had successfully secured their area. They sat as the sole rulers of an inland mountain region between two grand mountain chains (Bright Peaks and Everhills), a large lake to the east (Canua Lake), and a large canyon tp the west (The Deeps).
The two powerhouses weren’t the only kingdoms experiencing growth. The Kingdom of Valencia saw itself rise to be the richest faction in the server as each Valencia player was said to have over a hundred pieces of gold. The Timorians had expanded their borders south and were now along the river coastline across from Lava Island. Aspin grew in size and had a booming population of forty one players. The Lapazian City States, with the help of the Hellenistic Kingdom, had built well defended cities and organized militias of about eight to thirteen players. In each city a Hellenistic official was there to help keep structure and security. As well as that bands of five Hellenistic soldiers helped patrol each city and keep the region clear of monsters. While these soldiers proved to be extremely helpful in protecting the farms they also kept a strong Hellenistic presence in the region. Sometimes Hellenistic patrols even got within fifty blocks of Timorian territory, this put the Timorians on edge.
Even though the Timorians were peacefully coexisting with the Hellenistic Empire they were still very bitter from the result of The Lapaz Civil War. The Timorians had the rebels and Aspinites on their last leg and with one more offensive they believed they could have won the war. To them the Hellenistic Kingdom had wrongfully intervened in a war that didn’t concern them. The Hellenistic Kingdom had also forced them to break a part their union and loose over half of their territory, including very vital farmlands. The Timorians had helped the Hellenistic Kingdom defeat their longtime rivals, the Brimeans, and in return the Timorians felt as if the Hellenistic Kingdom betrayed them. As the days progressed a wave of anger and aggression began to boil within the Timorians.
For the current time though there was peace. More and more players began to join and the server saw another population surge. Players began appearing in the dozens resulting in cities and towns being over-populated. Valencia grew to a population of seventy seven, Timor grew to eighty nine, and Aspin grew to a whopping size of ninety three. Alexandria, the capitol of the Hellenistic Kingdom, grew to its largest size of sixty three while Thebes, the capitol of the Corinthian Empire, grew to sixty six. Towns and hamlets in the kingdoms doubled in size too as players flooded the server. New players soon got tired of the crowded areas and with no one to really stop them they flocked to the wild. The Server Spawn Migration occurred on September 19th with large groups of players leaving the server zone and dispersing throughout the server. The Era of Expansion had begun and this caused a great fear amongst the kingdoms as they now began to worry about their own future expansion. They felt the need to act.
Back in late July Hellenistic game thinkers had come up with a theory of underground to surface expansion. They believed that the best way to expand was to build underground tunnels and railways connected to surface settlements in other parts of the server. This way the kingdom could stretch thousands of blocks across the server but only have to protect the settlement itself and the underground systems connecting it to the heartland. The plan was approved and in early August the project began. Over a month later the Hellenistic Kingdom was ready to establish its first settlement.
Located over three thousand blocks away in a Cold Taiga Mega biome the settlement of New Alexandria was established on September 21st. Even though most of the areas natural resources were untouched there were still signs of player activity. Torches hung in dark caves and a crafting table was located under a fresh pile of snow. Whoever the player was had moved a long so the Hellenistic Kingdom found the land suitable for claiming. New Alexandria had a cobblestone wall with four watchtowers built around it and a skilled player population of ten inhabited the city.
With the Era of Expansion ongoing and peace being kept several players around the server were now rising to “celebrity status.” LichLordJon, king of the Hellenistic Kingdom, was now a common name amongst the land. He spawned on the day the server was created, survived the many wars that had occurred, led the Hellenistic Kingdom to becoming a super power, and after The Lapaz Civil War he had risen to become king. He became known for his tactical thinking and skilled ability to fight other players and monsters.
JasmineBlue was a Timorian that many players knew about as well. She spawned after the early server wars (Tribal, Troll, Brimean) and during the height of Timorian power when the Lapaz Union still existed. She took part in the Lapaz Civil War often fighting on the front lines. One time during the conflict she led a group of five Timorians against a group of thirteen rebels who were defending a fortified town. After they had taken the town she defended it for another two hours against rebel players before finally having to retreat only after every other Timorian player had been killed and her weapon broke. The town was so heavily damaged that it no longer served a purpose as a strategic location so the rebels blew it up.
SolomanBrown stepped into the spotlight when his ideas and arrest led to the Lapaz Civil War. What made him famous across the server though was his escape from Timor two days after his arrest. Instead of taking part of the Lapaz Civil War he fled north and took refuge in the Corinthian Empire. After the war ended he returned south, but unknown to the rest of the server he was now working as a spy for the Corinthian Empire.
Many other players rose in popularity amongst their own groups as the server continued to flourish. With so many new players joining the players of the old began to fade from memory. All those who were famous but then died one way or the other were starting to be forgotten. The old kings of the land, the old famous warriors, explores, miners, builders, merchants, all those who had once lived and been great were now no longer apart of the servers memory. In order to keep these legends intact players with an appetite for literature began writing epic stories about past legends. These stories soon began filling the server and players everywhere became obsessed with having as many books and stories as possible. The server entered a period of Literature Recognition.
Art, Trade, and War: King LichLordJon
“The Renascence” so they called it swept across the server. Paintings, sculptures, statues, music, beautiful buildings, all types of art began filling the land. Players were turning towards their more creative side and instead of making war they were making works of art. Most important and most influential were the epic novels, poems, and stories being created.
Players who were skilled with words and had a passion to write began doing so. They shared personal stories, historical stories, or imaginative fictions of heroic stories and daring adventures.
In order to create these pieces of art work basic materials such as paper, dyes, wool, and other things were now in how demand. With that a group of players went west and from them a new and very prosperous city state emerged. Located westward from the server spawn and in the river valley Melago the city Lusitania was born. Sheppard’s, dye men, and sugar cane farmers first inhabited the city but soon after scribes, book keeps, crafters, and tailors followed. The city soon enough had a wealthy class of artisans and artists themselves followed suit. With so many needed materials so close by authors, painters, and other artists made Lusitania their home. players who lived more westward outside of the kingdoms went to the city to trade and players back east went to the city to get books and other inspiring pieces of art work. Within a week Lusitania became the focal point of this new movement.
Art wasn’t the only thing going through a reform. Military tactics were also being revised and reconstructed. Engagement methods, strategies, new ideas of warfare were being implemented into the grand armies of the server. Road networks were being refaced, trading posts began sprouting up all throughout the server, and infrastructure as a whole saw a great increase. With peace, stability, and cooperation being maintained the player population steadily grew.
City states began popping up everywhere throughout the server with some even joining together forming new and growing kingdoms. Other players took to the wild and soon enough dozens of barbaric clans and tribes filled the open and unclaimed biomes of the server. In the middle of it all sat The Hellenistic Kingdom.
LichLordJon, king of the Hellenistic Kingdom, had seen the empire rise to be the greatest. Its power had been solidified and through diplomacy it had spread its influence. The Hellenistic Kingdom had yet seen itself loose a war. With more and more kingdoms now emerging LichLordJon was hungry to once again grow the borders of his kingdom and capitalize on the growth in trade. Time for expansion had come but LichLordJon was weary of starting a war especially a pointless war. Instead he was going to expand through commerce and trade, or at least that would be the cover.
First LichLordJon wanted to take control of Sugav River. The river was now filled with trading boats coming from northern kingdoms to middle kingdoms then out to the Great South Sea where they traded with dozen of more city states spread along the coast. Commerce was so much that Sugav River was now being called the Golden River. If LichLordJon could somehow establish Hellenistic control over this trading center the Hellenistic treasury would surely boom. Yet he had to somehow justify this bold and brash move without stirring up to much dissent from his neighbors.
He had the plan. Hellenistic builders would build several trading ports along the west side of the river. At the mouth of the river south, where it met the ocean, he would construct a grand harbor. A harbor where all merchants could stop, restock, trade, or rest. A harbor that would open up trade to the island players and to the coastal city states. A harbor that would look like a trading hub but really serve the Hellenistic Kingdom as a way to gain more power.
LichLordJon took this plan to his allies, The Kingdom of Valencia. He said that by controlling the river the Hellenistic Kingdom would bring in more trade to the region and could keep better security over the goods that pirates and bandits had been stealing. Taxes would of course be taken but it would be small compared to the profits earned. The Kingdom of Valencia, always wanting to open more markets, agreed. The Lapazian City States agreed as well but that was no surprise seeing that their voting council was pretty much under the control of Hellenistic advisors. Aspin even agreed as they were eager to bring more trade to their regions. The only kingdom that was completely against this was the Timorians. They knew what LichLordJon was trying to do and they didn’t like it. They controlled the eastside of the river and they already had trading ports, why weren’t those good enough? They saw this as an aggressive move to take trade away from their ports. LichLordJon listened to their concerns but after they left he went ahead with the plan anyways, he could care less about what the Timorians had to say. Fragile relations were strained even more but with little to do and the might of the Hellenistic kingdom at its peak the Timorians sat by.
The Corinthian Empire paid little attention to these affairs. Their king, Darses X, was busy pushing Corinthian borders north and eastward. City states were falling one by one to the mighty Corinthian Empire. With no great power to keep them in check the Corinthian Empire was in a period of great expansion.
With the Sugav River now given to Hellenistic control and construction under way LichLordJon looked to the frontier, to New Alexandria. New Alexandria had been having some difficulties growing. Barbarian clans in the area assaulted the city daily and the citizens found themselves always occupied with defending the city. LichLordJon needed to secure the area and for two important reasons he had to crush the barbarians who dared to defy his rule.
The first was to save face of the kingdom. They couldn’t let these unorganized barbarians get the best of them. If they couldn’t handle them how could they handle all the other emerging states? They had to solidify their power and bring vengeance on anyone who tried to cross them. The second was that the kingdom was in high demand of coal and iron. The mines in the heartland of the kingdom were running dry and if LichLordJon wanted to keep production going he needed to get the kingdom more coal and iron. It just so happened that a huge ravine near New Alexandria was rich with coal and iron but the barbarians kept them from accessing it. If LichLordJon wanted to continue his construction of ports and maintain his kingdom he needed to get that ravine. So on September 28th he got his best general, Maximo, and gave him the order. With 75 of his best players Maximo marched to New Alexandria. Taking the under-earth tunnels and railways he got there within a day, on September 29th the war against the barbarians was on.
At first the fighting for Hellenistic soldiers was hard. They were in the wild and battles dragged into the night leaving soldiers exposed in the wild. For the barbarians this wasn’t the wild, this was their home. They knew had to navigate the dark and snow covered trees avoiding monsters and ambushing Hellenistic camps. They also had underground trenches that allowed them to safely and quickly travel to their location.
Many times Hellenistic soldiers would chase a band of barbarians to only loose them then get attacked from the rear. The casualties were mounting and the fight against these rough and vicious barbarians wasn’t fairing well. On September 31st though luck came to Maximo.
His scouts had followed a raiding band of barbarians tracking them to their village. Maximo now had a target to assault instead of fighting this guerilla style war. He mustered his troops and marched, the barbarians were caught off guard. They tried to put up a defense of the village but after their front line was shattered they fled from the field. The Hellenistic soldiers proceeded to loot and burn the village. In the pillaging a soldier, by chance, stumbled across a map somehow untouched from the fires. Immediately he knew its importance and rushed to Maximo with it. It was a detailed map of the barbaric region. These barbarians were called the Romagoths, and their clan was responsible for the attacks. This region, where New Alexandria was, was in the heart of their territory.
On the map there was one other village and a capitol city. Their capitol was just a mere few hundred blocks away and hidden within a cave. If Maximo wanted to end this fight once and for all he had to cut the head off the snake. He had to burn that city to the ground. He returned to New Alexandria and gave his soldiers some time to rest. The fighting had been fierce and energy had been drained. So while his troops took the day to rest Maximo, along with his captains, planned their attack. On October 2nd the day had come, they were going to assault the city and wipe the Romagoths from the server.
Another server-based story with the words "Rise" and "Fall" in the title!!! UNACCEPTABLE!!!
Jk, jk. Hello, I'm Kmandy, author of (the now defunct) Fall and a Rise: A Vanillacraft Tale and one of the authors on The Convergence crossover project.
I've just read the first chapter of your story and I really enjoyed it. I've always liked the blend of fantasy and traditional minecraft. The low population merged with complicated politics. It makes the deaths feel much more significant.
Like I said, I really like the fact that this is a more politically oriented story, almost functioning as a history of a period. This applies greater significance to the conflict and makes it more interesting to read. I also really like the addition of the short time-frame, with wars starting and finishing almost at random, making the period feel more turbulent. I like that. I also really like the return to a more simple, vanilla-style of Minecraft, adding real significance to diamonds again. It is noteworthy that someone has decent gear.
Apart from a few spelling and grammar mistakes (most importantly, it's "the balance of power" not "the power of balance"), I have no real issues with this story.
8/10
Look forward to reading more.

Hey, good to meet you Kmandy and thanks for the review! I can't tell you how many history books I've read that had "Rise" and "Fall" in them. I guess it psychologically came out when thinking of a title haha. Glad to have a reader!
-PS: I've updated with a new chapter and there'll be another one tonight.
Heyy!!! I'm back sorry for not updating in a while. I just ended school so I was busy with finals, moving back home, and work. Things have calmed down now so I'll continue with the story. Hope you guys like the update! Let me know what you think.

Updated, let me know what you all think!
