Minecraft is known to not really have any lore. So far no RP server has made any Minecraft lore, opting to make their own thing, but Minecraft has a lot of potential for lore. So I have written some lore, hopefully inspiring an RP server to rise up focusing on Minecraft and not elves and dragons and stuff.
In order to create a better future, it is important to understand the
past and try to piece together why we live in hiding as we do today.
Why is the world so dangerous, especially at night? This is my attempt
at piecing this together using the knowledge we have been able to
salvage from ruins, and that has been orally transmitted.
The world of Mynakutha (As named by Humans) is an ancient world, with a long history.
It was a gigantic world, harboring three sapient species. The Primate Humans, the Proboscidean Kushi, and the Suid Karthogs.
The Karthogs preferred a warm wet climate, and often settled around
the jungles or forests.
They sustained themselves mostly on Mushrooms, carrots and other plants,
they were omnivores and they could eat meat, but they chose not to. The Kushi preferred a dry warm climate, and often settled around deserts or mesas, while the
Humans primarily preferred plains or Savannahs or hills.
The Kushi are herbivores and sustained themselves exclusively on plants, while the humans were fully omnivores and ate meat as well as plants.
They could all adapt to different environments, but they obviously thrived in their optimal environment and so the majority of the population opted to settle there.
The three races lived in harmony for centuries, until the Humans started expanding into Karthog territory and conflict began. According to the legends, The Karthogs warned the human settlers to leave their land, and in response, an angry human farmer ate a pork chop in front of a Karthog. The Karthog in turn ate the human. It is not known why the Karthog reacted as it did, but according to the records, the Karthog resembled pig men. So either Pigs were sacred to the Karthog, or the Karthog believed the human was eating Karthog meat.
In any event, the conflict spread like wildfire, and the Karthog and Humans were soon in open warfare, actively inventing new ways to kill each other. Poison, siege weapons, incendiary weapons, magical constructs, TNT and more.
Eventually they leveled each other's cities, and even the peaceful Kushi were pulled into the conflict as the war spread to their territory, they were forced to defend themselves from the Human and Karthog forces who marched into their land and started to ravage it. The Kushi used their magic to invent great men of metal, who would protect them.
The records are mostly lost of what happened next. But one side dabbling in Alchemy invented a terrible weapon, that would drain the life of those it was used upon, turning them into walking corpses, whose only intent was to feast on the living. It does not matter who invented it, for the intention went out of control quickly and the disease spread uncontrollably, and soon all the major settlements had fallen to these Zombies.
The Kushi quickly evacuated their old settlements and left on a long exodus, far away from their old home, intending to live in small villages, to protect their people's survival. It is said that Kushi temples can still be found in the deserts, but it's riches have been trapped to prevent them from falling in Karthog or Human hands.
The fate of the Karthog is more uncertain, at one point they vanished ans their cities were reduced to rubble, but an ancient legend may give us some potential knowledge.
According to it, the Karthog fought back against the zombification disease, but to no avail.
The Karthog were heavily pushed, and the infection had even reached their capital. In desperation, the Karthog mages used dark magic to open a portal to another dimension. With little hope left, almost every single Karthog remaining fled into this dimension of fire, over a million Karthog colonized this unfriendly realm. Once they were in, they cut the connection and blew up their capital. They knew the Humans would eventually follow them, so they built great fortresses, ready to fight any incursion into their new realm. They invented constructs of fire and magic to destroy the Humans, but the humans never came. Unfortunately, some of the Karthog who travelled to this dimension were infected with the disease and after some months, they died and the disease started spreading, and it proved far more resilient in this dimension. For centuries the Karthog fought a losing war against the Zombies and the disease that spread rapidly. And eventually nothing was left of them anymore.
Today, according to the legend, this Nether realm is full of zombified Karthog and the ruins of their fortresses who could ultimately not protect them. A solemn remnant of a once great people.
The humans did not fare better, their cities were being overrun everywhere. They could not fight this plague back, and eventually a mere thousand humans were left, and almost their entire population had been turned into zombies. The humans dug deep underground, and built secret underground strongholds. They could only hold the Zombies out for so long, but the greatest mages and alchemists researched a way to escape to a thriving new world. A dimension untouched by the Zombie virus, where their people could thrive. This portal was opened using 12 keystones they had summoned from this realm. The Humans who went through were not heard from again, and the few humans who remained behind in case something had gone wrong, were eventually forced to leave and find supplies to survive.
Before they left, they threw the keystones through the portal, ensuring nobody could just reactivate it, as they believe it had swallowed up their people.
Thousands of years have passed since those dark times, and few ruins remain of the great civilizations of the past. Humans are close to extinction, the Kushi live in small villages completely scattered, and the Karthog have not been seen since the war. The legend of the Nether realm is said to have been spread by a lone Karthog, seen over a millenia ago in a Kushi village, who claimed to have escaped from this dark dimension, and who wanted his people to be remembered. It is rumored that ancient Karthog temples can still be found in some isolated jungles. And some recent travelers speak of portals hidden in old ruins, leading to a realm full of Zombified Pig humanoids, who, if the legend is correct, would be the Karthog, but we haven't been able to confirm such rumors.
At night, the zombies who have been stalking the land since the fall of the civilizations still prey upon the few who remain.
Yet the world harbors other mysteries. Fragments of human expedition logs, found in the ruins of a crumpled castle, speak of mysterious abandoned ruins located underwater in the ocean, constructed and powered by materials they could not comprehend, and guarded by constructs likewise built of such materials. It is said that the Humans plundered something from these ruins, that would win the war, it is not known what as the rest of the pages are missing. But these texts were written during the early stages of the great war, So it is a mystery as to who built these underwater ruins? Who could be so advanced that even the humans of old could not comprehend them, and where are they now?
Yet much knowledge has been lost, and all we have left are old legends.
The world is large though, perhaps some Karthog have survived somewhere? Perhaps some Humans have? Perhaps there is a cure to the Zombification, and new civilizations could return one day to replace those lost? I, Jotika, Archaeologist and Historian hope to unravel these mysteries.
