Foreword: So basically I've always wanted to write and although it will probably not turn out well I have decided to start. This story is based on the Minecraft mod Terrafirmacraft, if you're interested go here http://terrafirmacraft.com/index.html. I hope this story is fresh and not repetitive and I am open to any criticism, corrections, and suggestions. I'm hoping to get a chapter every two weeks or so but don't count on it or the longevity of this story. So anyway on with the story.
Chapter 1 - Unsettling Settlements
Outside birds chirped and downstairs the oven crackled. The door to the room creaked open.
"Wake up Declan, everyone's waiting for you!" a woman said. Declan opened eyes. "Shoot," he started to scramble around the room gathering clothes and other articles. He quickly pulled on some clothes and put on his hat. "They haven't been waiting for to long have they mom?' he asked.
"Well as far as I know they've only been waiting for a few minutes, but you still better hurry!" she answered. He grabbed a bag and looked inside. Goggles check. Hammer check. Flux check. Extra food... he ruffled around his sack. Where was it?
"Hey, I think I'm missing-" he pulled out a leather bag. "Never mind." He was pretty sure he had everything except for his copper anvil, but the mules were going to carry that.
"Well mom I'm all ready!" he threw the bag over his shoulder.
"I'm going to miss you," she said.
"Ah, don't worry I'll be fine, once we get up and running we'll be fine." he hugged her. "I gotta go cya!" He grabbed a sandwich of the kitchen counter and ran out the door looking back and waving.
"Oh, i do hope he'll be safe" she said, wiping a tear from her eye.
"Hey wait up!" Declan ran toward a medium sized group stumbling on the cobbled street.
"We were about ta leave ya," said a burly man stroking his beard.
"See, what did I tell you," said another man, "my apprentice would never miss the boat!" he laughed and started walking again.
"Sorry sir, I hope I wasn't any trouble," he winced. The burly man just grumbled and started walking again.
"Hey, Declan" a voice said from behind.
"Hello Winchester how's it going!" Declan replied.
"I told you not to call me that, just call me Winch" he said.
"Oh She's tending to her animals like always. She needed to go early so they could all board the ship." Declan nodded. He was excited and nervous. To leave his hometown was one thing, but to leave the continent was another. Since the ships had discovered new land, the King and his court had offered support to any who wished to settle there. His town had held a major meeting and it was decided that he should be one to go. He was sad to leave his little village. He looked up and saw the boat they would sail on.
"Ay she's a beauty ain't she!" remarked the burly man.
"Well Arnold, for once I have to admit it's fine craftsmanship," Declan's mentor said.
"Nay Rowan, she's more than that," he laughed a deep hearty laugh, "She's me finest ship. I used only the hardest sequoia wood in her making an' she won't sink unless it's the toughest of gales!" Decaln looked at the ship. He didn't know much about ships, but just from the look of it he knew it was special. The frame was enhanced with the toughest of wrought iron. Rowan had made it, laboring hours over it. Usually only the Kings frigates had such strong hulls. The masts were immensely tall, towering over the highest of the villages buildings. Then again his village didn't have very tall buildings, at least according Arnold who had sailed to every continent in the world except for the new land.
"Whats her name Arnold?" Winch asked.
"I'm glad ya asked Winch! Since she's me finest vessel thus far I gave her the finest name in thee world," he paused for effect, "Alexandria." He smiled with a sort of longing.
"Is that a name I should know?" Winch whispered.
"Yep" a feminine voice sounded from behind. A tall, thin girl walked up. The boys frowned as they looked up at her. She smiled an amused smile.
"That's was his wife," she said softly.
"Aye Kate, and she be the finest lass in all the 9 seas... and I know that for certain." His face turned grievous. Kate looked at everyone as if expecting something. When she received nothing but blank stares she turned behind toward the grand ship.
"Come on everyone, it's time to start loading the S.S. Alexandria."
Everyone grabbed there packs and started loading the ship that would be their home for the next few weeks.
The important thing is not how long you live... It's what you accomplish with your life. While I live, I want to shine. I want to prove that I exist. If I could do something really important... That would definitely carry on into the future. My spirit will always live on. And so if I were to disappear... I think that all I have accomplished will go on. That would mean that it's living.
