Now while I was building a city with my pal in minecraft I realized something that was disturbingly accurate about minecraft. Notch has claimed there's no story to minecraft, and he is probably right, but that doesn't mean there's no lore. Look at the testificates, a seemingly harmless and simple people, but what if that was not the case? What if the empty strongholds, dormant nether fortress, and abandoned mine shafts are all relics of an ancient civilization led by the testificates? It may seem unrealistic at first, and I thought it was crazy too, until I thought about the genre of post-apocalyptic fiction. In it there are countless stories about the fall of humanity and how only the things we built to last would be seen by our replacements. In this case the inter-dimensional bunkers left by the testificates after a horrible war that forced their people to regress into the dumb, humble creatures we find today. I honestly believe that this is totally possible as in the state our civilization is, after thousands of years of being left to rot, would appear startlingly similar to the land we see in minecraft today. We as the player are the new dominant species, and the testificates have degraded to the bottom of the food chain, haunted by there own creations like the zombie (dead soldiers posioned by the chemical weapons of the time, trapped in infinite hell as they cannot die, but can only kill), the creeper (a genetically modified creature used as a suicide bomber), and the witch (a testificate who holds lost knowledge that appears as magic to the player). The more I think about it the more it makes sense, if you have anything else that may make sense please communicate in to this thread.
I do, and may start a survival journal soon, in the Windows 10 version, as soon as my laptop gets the free upgrade to Windows 10 right. I'll expand on my version then.
I like your version though. Tht's the cool thing about Minecraft. It's so open ended.
The enchanchments are remnants of the lost knowledge of the Testificate race. Able to imbue powers into common items as well as weapons, the words and language of the ancient Testificates summon forth the ethereal forces from the border dimensions. In order to use the enchantments, some number of midichlorians would have to be gathered first. They reside in all living things as well as some inanimate objects.

So, how'd I do?
pretty great! now how about the mysterious enderman? or the guardians?
The Enderman, the dark beings of the night, are the sole reason the enchantments work. Their ablity to hop between dimensions also weakens the barriers between the worlds, allowing the Testificates of old to work their enchantments. The Endermen function on a low level hive mind with the mighty Black Dragon as their lord and master. It is said that the eyes are the window to the soul and for an Enderman that is no mere saying. The eyes of an Enderman contain it's life force as well as the ability to warp dimensions. That is why when you look into an Enderman's eyes, the Enderman becomes agressive. The Enderman perceives an attack on it because of your glance at it's eyes. Wearing a hollowed pumpkin is effective against an Enderman because it can not see you are looking at its eyes (and by its eyes, its own soul) and it will stay passive.
The Guardians are bio-engineered creatures (much like the Creeper) made by the Ancient Testificates to guard their various temples and holy places from rival peoples and nations. Much of these temples have receeded into the sea and the Guardians have evolved in order to continue their duties as guard beings, endlessly waiting for their masters to return.

This just makes more sense! I mean jesus this is just adding fuel to the fire!
The ender Dragon sounds more like a gate keeper than a boss (to keep creatures from the over-world from coming in from the portals that {advanced Testificates} made that "only go to the same place" as making a direct portal to their lands is impossible because the Enderman(Or something else) made something to prevent it except this one spot they can't prevent for some unknown reason"). Why would a boss be a gate keeper if this "boss" could get something else to do it? (And seeing how enderman don't attack you even if the ender dragon is present if you don't look at them) Also, I think some advanced testificates should have survived and hiding in secret to build up again one day, the ender population cannot know everything, right. (And seeing how they stole their enchanted armor and weapons in large supply in their structures and mobile craft as well having potions in stands which they "must to go the over-world to get as the End does not have these resources" and also they have these "floating boats" and defense creatures that act like turrets and villages/towns/cities in a upward infrastructure with bridges gives all about their advancement in technology while also having "possible" natural abilities but doubt it seeing how they have plants(That can regrow and is in significant supply and could be their food source) that give their ability to teleport to random places and seeing enderman teleport randomly without good reason and then walk. Seeing how they get hurt when touching water, what about their own version of water that hurts over-world creatures and enderman don't get hurt and teleport but try to stay out of it if they can, it seems water is poison to them and the other worldly water could be poison to the over-world. {if there is going to be large bodies of liquid in the end anytime soon}) No suggestions here, this makes sense to me.
Actually, I though of this idea as well, but it's different.
First, the structures. Obviously, a civilisation must have existed for a while, because of all the mineshafts, ruins, temples, and strongholds. But they're all abandoned. Something must have wiped out whatever civilisation that existed. But what?
Next we move onto the mobs. Many of the creatures that attack players are undead, like zombies and skeletons. The spiders and silverfish can be assumed as naturally occurring creatures, because they are not supernatural. The Enderman are otherworldly beings who attack unless provoked. From Game Theory, we know that creepers are highly evolved plants. The non-hostile mobs have been around for a long time. The guardians are obviously sea creatures that guard the ocean temples because they are like sharks, but with a leader. But there is the matter of the zombies and villagers. There is a relationship. Zombie villagers exist; so do zombies that look like players, as well as baby zombies. Why would there be two different kinds of zombies?
The biomes are highly detailed. You have forests, lakes, seas, plains and mushrooms biomes. I think it's safe to assume that there is nothing unusual here. The biomes simply are there because they are like different lands in our world. The mushroom biome is just an exotic place where strange animals exist.
What strikes me the most are the dimensions. The Nether is simply the underworld. The Nether Fortress is abandoned, now riddled with mobs. But if the mobs built it, it would be in perfect condition. Now they lie crumbled. We don't why, but it's safe to assume that the fortresses were built by the same civilisation who built the ruins in the Overworld. The same goes for the End. The End cities and there, but no one knows who built it. The Endermen couldn't have because the are primitive mobs. The only question is the portal to the End. Why is there a stronghold that has a portal to it, but it was broken? Whatever civilisation that existed must have gone to the dimension, but when they got wiped out, every trace of their past was gone, leaving only ruins.
So what exactly is the lore? I believe that the player, you, is the last survivor of a civilisation of players who conquered the world, nether and end. But for some unexplained reason, possibly from the mobs, the civilisation fell. The players turned into zombies and their cities fell to ruin. Now, the zombies and mobs want to attack the villagers, the lesser civilisation, and it's only a matter of time before they get wiped out as well. So you're just a survivor of an apocalypse who wants to just live out the world.

what about the enchantments?
This is actually similar to the lore I created! I might make a forum thread about my lore and link to it.

I was thinking a something exactly like this! It's like the entire game is built in a way to showcase such an idea!
Exactly man, it's such an interesting concept!

Lol, I didn't know I was that good at coming up with explanations. Or something.
I posted my lore which is similar to this one: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/show-your-creation/fan-art/literature/2488256-litterally-anything-can-go-after-those-numbers-in-a-link

Totally! I want to see what they'd think!

Possibly the mushroom islands were effects of toxic waste from a nuclear warfare?
Maybe that toxic waste also killed lots of animals and drew them to extinction. This also explains why we have so little animals.

There is a thread similar to this one, and it's buried below hundreds of threads.
