This is a story that I made, over about the course of two hours, detailing the history of Minecraft combining elements of the Lord of the Rings as well as the former. I own neither, and this is purely fan-based. It is not factual, and has not been endorsed by either of the parties (Mojang and The Saul Zaentz Company) who own the rights to their respective products.
It's a lengthy one.

The world is changed.
I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air.
Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it.
*Minecraft.*
It began with the forging of the great stones. The powerful gem of coal, which imbued the owner with the strength and durability of all the mountains of the Overworld. The jewel of iron granted great luck and shrewness to its bearer. The gem of gold gave immense intellectual power and quickness of thought to whosoever it was given. The gift crafted of lapis lazuli would give the wearer great beauty, and the ability to command others' will. The diamond gem would administer the owner great magical properties, endowing them with the strength to become the most powerful being in the three realms. And the Emerald, most sought after of all the six gems for its perfect beauty, would grant the owner wealth beyond price and count.
Coal was given to the Pigmen - great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls.
Iron, to the race of spiders - a warlike race, kin to their elders the Ghasts, traversing the Overworld in their tribes, who above all desire the blood of Men.
The third gem was granted to the Villagers, mortal and the most peaceful of all beings.
Lapis Lazuli was given to the Guardians, the reclusive keepers of the ocean; immortal, wisest and most powerful of all beings.
The diamond was originally promised to the Witches, powerful sorcerers of the wilderness, but was gifted to the creepers instead. The witches were an old and most dreadful people, and made a blood-oath to destroy the creepers for their insolence in accepting what they believed was rightfully theirs. The Creepers, in their own right, were an intelligent but rather zealous people, industrious, and the many bands across the world created temples to their gods, and through magic, created horrific dungeons into which they threw their prisoners.
But they were all of them... deceived. For another gem was made.
In the land of the Nether, in his fiery mountain fortress, King Wither forged a gem of redstone, one to control all others. And into the jewel, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life.
One gem to rule them all.
After razing the Nether, the Darkness would turn its Eye to the world above. One by one, the free lands of the Overworld fell to the power of the stone.
But there were some... who resisted.
A Last Alliance of Pigmen, Villagers and Guardians marched against the armies of Wither; the creepers, whose wills were broken by that of the Dark Lord. Also the Spiders, who journeyed to fight on his behalf, for their evil equaled his own. The Skeletons and Blazes too, dark abominations created by some black magic. The leaders of the Villagers, who had succumbed to his will, became the Wither Skeletons; deadly thralls who became his most potent servants. The Slimes and Ghasts refused the call of both sides, although some Slimes residing in the soil of the Nether were, in the Dark Lord's rage, twisted and redesigned to do his bidding, taking on the heat of the fiery lava that now surrounded them. The Slimes, because of their lethargic and rather peaceful nature, and the Ghasts who considered themselves too powerful to again resume partaking the joy of battle with mortals (the last war they were in, millennia ago, destroyed an entire civilization.) The Witches, eager as they were to destroy the Creepers, feared also the power of the Dark Lord, and elected to content themselves with observing the slaughter.
On the dead slopes of the King's citadel, they fought for the freedom of the Overworld.
Victory was near.
But the power of the stone could not be undone.
It was in this moment, when all hope had faded, that Pete, son of the Lord of Villages, took up his father's sword.
The Wither, enemy of the Free People's of the Overworld, was defeated.
The Gem passed to Pete, who had this one chance to destroy evil forever. But the hearts of villagers were, while good and peaceful, easily corrupted. The gem would betray Pete to his death.
[At this point it becomes less LoTR-y and more Minecraft fan-fic-y. If you want to leave it there, I don't blame you.]
For a hundred years, with the death of Pete, the World declined. With the death of the king and no known heir making himself known, Villages split off into separate kingdoms and returned to their peaceful lifestyle. Pigmen returned to their industrious world, living in their vast city-fortresses and building mineshafts to interconnect the world's peoples (and they were well on their way to doing it; we'll talk about that later.) All the while ,they watched the Nether closely, for any sign the dark lord might emerge once again. Guardians returned to their deep halls, never to emerge again. Their solitude would lead them to fear the above-worlders, and try to kill all who entered their domains. Spiders and the other dark creatures who remained returned the dark halls of the Nether. Witches were placated momentarily, satisfied with their former adversaries being broken and banished to another land.
But the Gem had a will of its own.
A plague of some ancient witchery was transferred to the Villagers, turning victims into mindless beasts who lusted for their brethren's flesh. The Iron Golems were created by the Pigmen to protect their old allies, and while they did not know whether or not the Gem was behind the dreadful malady, they began to ready their outposts for war. And indeed, the Second War of the Stones began.
The overwhelming darkness tunneled into the Overworld, ravaging all that was good, slaughtering thousands and fighting the Pigmen (now alone in their endeavor, for the Villagers were in no capacity to fight) for every inch of their mines. The great Cats joined the Pigmen, and so did several others - the Snow Golems and Slimes.
In their desperation, the Pigmen attempted to create new weapon - a living, breathing automaton, similar to their Golems, but integrated with the End. Moving to the Skyland, via their End-Portals - End being the substance with which they traveled through time and space, thus an incredibly powerful material - they created the Enderman, Endermite, and Ender-Dragon, their most powerful war machine. The Endermen, hyper-dimensional foot soldiers, were highly aggressive and unable to be controlled, warping through space uncontrollably, but highly curious and inclined to build, as they took after their masters. The Endermite's, modeled after the Silver fish, a small insect that infested the stone fortresses of the Pigmen, was intended to be a swarm-machine built on the failures of the Enderman, but they proved too brittle and were unable to End-bend, as the Endermen could. Finally, the Pigmen created the Ender-Dragon, a massive being that obliterated all in its path. It proved too powerful even for the Pigmen to control and they cut off the End-tunnel to the End, as it was now called. There, the Dragon is worshiped by the Endermen, and awaits his chance to join with the Wither King - for he is eternal, and in eternal pain, wishing destruction upon his former masters. Endermen return to the End after they are finished searching for the parts of the King in the Overworld - the knowledge that the only way to resurrect him lies in the nether was not able to be ripped from the minds of the Pigmen who remained in the dimension with them.
The Great King of Pigmansum, Dan, fought the King on the Mushroom Island. During the fight, the gem was destroyed, killing Dan and all of his remaining Pigmen. The destruction of the Dark Lord was so powerful that it caused a great number of changes in the world; it reached the notice of the EverGod, Chink, lord of light. Wakened from his divine slumber, Chink consigned the power of the demons who remained to night, where his brother Jib, lord of darkness, reigned supreme. Many of the monstrosities of the King returned to their dark halls in the Nether outright; they could not survive the burning of the world. The Creepers and Spiders, who were originally created by the EverGod, escaped this judgment, and would survive the burning daylight.
Even with the destruction of the Gem, the Dark Lord survives. A shard escaped the blast unscathed, though none know of it. While it survives, he does as well, manifesting his will in his thralls, the Wither Skeletons. With the Pigmen extinct, their fortresses, though never found, fell into disrepair. The Ender Dragon remains confined to his prison, along with the dark minions that choose to stay nearest their god, worshiping him until the end of the End.
And then, a thousand years later, a certain Villager awoke in a field. Steve. Son of Pete.
Re-writing Lotr in part had me on edge. But it was done well. The ores were well-assigned. Having the spiders and creepers be sentient was a clever twist and its nice to see the guardians finally come into play in at least one fanfiction. The fact that the gem itself takes over as villain after the death of the Wither King is refreshing and its nice to see the Ender Dragon actually acting in a villainous way. I always preferred the subtle, strategic dragons to the "***** I burn yo village!" dragons - who literally do nothing else villainous in the entire thing.
The Wither Skeletons as manifested puppets of the Wither itself is also interesting.
Overall, I like this. A good start and it would be nice to see more from you. 8/10
P.S. If you do intend to stay around for a wee while, don't be afraid to use the player community and modding community. By Notch the possibilities are untapped.
Would be honoured if you could check out my own, even longer fanfiction. I mean, WAY longer. Full book length and not even finished.

I agree completely, Kmandy! You make an excellent point. Working Lord of the Rings-based ideas into a Minecraft fan fiction was a great idea. About the enderdragon, you're right! It's a great idea. I just wish I'd written a bit more about her in my book!
Great story, whatopercy! Keep writing!
