K's note: Just before I start this thing I just wanted to emphasise that while I did copy this notion from OverlordXCano (keep it up man, really enjoying your stuff), the ideas proposed will be completely different, drawing on the extensive modding community in places and some elements I made up on my own entirely (I mean, made from scratch, just a part of this world). Hell, the only thing I've obviously borrowed from anyone is Asanetargoss's explanation of enderchests and a very small part of his stuff inspired my idea for the physical appearance of the Endermen. The use of Ishinge from the sadly destroyed Before by Sangiin is done purely in tribute, and Sangiin himself is written in as a prominent character in this lore.
I'll post this in a series of Folios, each chronicling a small period in the world's history. In the context of the world, it's an attempt to compile a full official document of the world's history by the True Court (you'll figure out who they are), after their critics in the Gathering Council complain about a lack of transparency about the world's history. These are the rough notes of the historians for each Folio and as such you'll see little notes from them throughout.
In the long run this will contribute greatly to the series Fall and a Rise: A Vanillacraft Tale, filling in blanks in the backstory and developing the various figures of the True Court further. Expect the first Folio within the day.
If anyone has any questions as to how things work, post below, I'll get right on an answer. As for suggestions as to characters, aspects of the world, civilizations, events in history etc. PM them to me and I'll publish them along with the folios provided they fit in with or improve upon what is created, with the name of the creator posted alongside.
Okay, here's the first bit of Folio I. Sorry this was delayed. Couple of attempts buggered up and I was dealing with a youtube video and exams at the same time.
First Era (9,000 P.G.T)
CLASSIFIED: HOUSE PERSSON CLEARANCE ONLY
Humans/Divines
Humans launch expeditions across the planes of existence into Ishinge’s Realm, much to the annoyance of the god. The council of gods decide to let humanity venture forth, after threats from Feleus of driving the humans to war. In the night, Ishinge slays Feleus, stripping him of his power. Ishinge then rallies an army of his followers and invades the Overworld. The Council of Gods, fleeing Ishinge’s wrath, separate themselves from the mortal plane. This creates a near identical ethereal realm known as the Aether. Human race is wiped out.
Council of Gods:
The council of deities which maintain the forces of nature. They created the Nether as home to their enemies and the wicked. In the First Era they had a physical presence on the Overworld. Quite strangely it seems to have been in the same area the city of Mojang is currently situated. Headed by Chryne (god of time, order and chance), Haem (god of creation, life and nature) and Reginald (god of wisdom and language).
Ishinge:
Ishinge: The only god to kill another by records. His sphere of influence is unknown, he’s just a miscellaneous god to our knowledge (this civilization had those apparently). Used to roam the mortal world, trying to learn the secrets of the other gods, particularly those of creation and destruction. He also had a hobby of challenging the greatest of human heroes, offering heavenly weapons should they manage to best him in combat. These rewards were naturally very rarely bestowed. Eventually Ishinge created his own realm and people and retreated into it, decrying humanity for unknown reasons.
Feleus:
The god of men. Taken from amongst their numbers to represent humanity on the Council of Gods. Rumoured to have been a powerful king before his ascension. He had a long-standing rivalry with Ishinge. At the start of the Endless War Ishinge snuck into his home via a convoluted series of shape-shifts. Ishinge then stealthily transformed into a 30 foot dragon, fought a duel with Feleus, and then cut out his heart with him screaming so hard it shattered the windows of every home in the mortal world. He then walked right out without anyone noticing. (Sangiin's note: *le sigh* Even the most ancient texts are not devoid of the most pointlessly stupid of plot holes. Seriously.)
(Seph’s note: He sounds like a short-tempered tosspot. I understand why Ishinge hated him.)
Overworld:
Overworld:(Seph’s note: The place where we bloody well live, call it whatever “Sane Realm” nonsense you like Grumm. I’ll still call it this.)
Endless War:
Endless War: The war which created the undead we currently see, due to its absolute destruction of the natural order.
First Era (8,900 P.G.T)
Jeb’s note: What in Nether is this? What if this got out? Speak to me immediately Seph. Sort this **** out!
CLASSIFIED: HOUSE PERSSON CLEARANCE ONLY
Humans/Divines:
One human survives the Endless War (Sangiin’s note: somehow, it’s astonishingly vague). It seems he went on a similar spiritual and magical journey to Ishinge himself. He is known as Steve. It seems that he sought aid from the Testificates (then called Vithians) and Pigmen.
The Testificate response varies, with some having lost relatives in the Endless War and others blaming the humans for the war. Pigmen effectively blank any messages they receive from Steve. They seem much more focused on conquering lost human territory. (Seph’s note: They were having a little contest with the noses over who could dance on the ashes of mankind the best.) However, Steve seems to have received no direct military aid. (Seph’s note: Although this could be some voluntary “path of the warrior” nonsense. Humans seem obsessed with sacrificing themselves senselessly as long as there’s a pretty flash at the end.)
Steve eventually enters the end and cripples Ishinge. He retrieves the blade used to kill Feleus and proceeds to shatter Ishinge’s throne, which he allegedly used a sort of power source, keeping him alive as long as it stood. This in turn results in the mortality of the god. He is then killed and stripped of his power by Steve and his Realm shatters. This creates tears into our world through which many of his followers, the Endlings, fall through, trapping them in the Overworld. Those that remained were embittered and war-like, and Ishinge’s high priests (the other dragons) quickly resort to a tribal mentality and engage in frankly baffling squabbles over the remaining hunks of rock for the next several thousand years.
In light of an exodus of Endlings into the overworld due to the demise of Ishinge at the hands of Steve - and a sudden destabilisation of The End as a whole – Steve flees North to the Great Archipelago and the Veil of Sanity. Steve there cuts off his own hand and casts it into The Tempest, creating the Divines.
Grand Archipelago:
Ancestral home of the Divines. Situated far to the North of the Old Continent, across the Diamond Ocean, 30 km South of Veil of Sanity and the Isle of Dusk. Contains main Islands of Harad (the largest); Mejister (the second largest); Sempir; Jugnez; Wyartt and Norwich (now the Ashen Isle. Contains at least 400 smaller islands and the floating city island of Dusk.
Madrealms:
A sovereign nation shrouded in mystery. Located to the North, far beyond the Veil of Sanity. A Pocket of life within the Tempest, consisting of an expanse of floating islands. Only accessible via the Isle of Dusk at this time. Home of the Great Airmen of the Madrealms, the only human civilization to survive Ishinge’s Endless War. (Sangiin’s note: A bunch of insular and stuck-up gits who cause nothing but trouble.)
Veil of Sanity & The Tempest:
The Veil of Sanity is a waterfall to the North of the Grand Archipelago where the World in theory stops. This gives way to the Tempest, an endless storm that attempts to destroy all that enters it, and usually succeeds. There are however paths through the Tempest, that can be exploited to find lands beyond. It is widely believed that the beneath the Tempest is the Void and vice versa.
Endlings:
The followers of Ishinge, created by him. Tall and strong, approximately 8 feet. Born with soft pale white skin. However, when a male comes of age they are taken to the End and dangled a small way into The Void. They would be essentially cooked, with their skin hardening and becoming twisted and warped. They have the ability to teleport short distances, but are drained by the task. They are taught from birth to kill any human or Divine who sets eyes upon them, due to the long-standing conflict between the peoples.
The End:
The realm created by Ishinge. Once an expansive floating continent. When he was slain the realm was destroyed the natural aspects of the Isle were all but destroyed, with the small pockets that remained lasting underground in small caverns. Endlings in the End have a tendency to dwell alongside them. Now there are thousands of dispersed islands of rock, distributed like the Aether, in parallel to the Overworld, each ruled by at least one of Ishinge's dragon priests. As such we are unable to comment on the state of the more strongly built up areas over the Endling and Court of Whispers heartlands.
The Void: The end of creation, found hanging just beneath the created world. An unknowable expanse with no known bottom, seeming to be the basis for many pagan religions.
(Seph’s note: It’s a big bloody hole, no need to go into this level of detail Sangiin)
(Sangiin’s note: I can hardly write that!)
(Seph’s note: You can and you will. Do it or don’t write about it at all. Grumm’s breathing down my neck about giving the pagans too much screen time. We’re also giving him and the "editing" department “too much to do” apparently.)
(Sangiin’s note: Fine.)
The Void:
A bloody massive hole that NO ONE cares about. It serves no purpose other than being a right pain in the bloody **** and the mere idea that anyone could be interested in it brings bile to the throats of myself and my colleagues. **** you and have a nice day.
(Sangiin’s note: Happy?)
(Seph’s note: Fantastic.)
(Grumm’s note: Please see me Sangiin.)
8700-8400 P.G.T: First Historical Texts created
Jeb’s Note: I can’t believe you let Sangiin work on this Seph! This is the most sensitive information in here. If this leaks heads will roll.
Seph’s Note: I can’t believe you’d mistrust him after what he’s done for us in the past. And so what if he leaks it. We’ve dismissed the stories as Court of Whispers propaganda before. Sangiin’s not even well-known outside the academic community (most of whom work for us anyway). We'd be able to stifle leaks in the week.
Jeb’s Note: If only I had your blind confidence.
CLASSIFIED: DIVINE COUNCIL ACCESS ONLY
8690
Divines:
The Council of Nobles established in the Grand Archipelago in the North. Seated at Isle of Harad. Trade deals set up with the Mad-Realms. Steve begins to speak of a future paradise, and of someday returning to the Old Continent and taking it back from the Endlings that were invading it. He appoints Herobrine, a young member of House Persson as his second in command, bestowing upon him a small portion of his own power.
Council of Nobles:
The noble families of the Great Archipelago begin cooperating for first time in recorded history in a council headed by Steve. Islands of Dusk, Jugnez and Mejister not inducted into council of Nobles.
Mejister was the only island to be ruled by a single noble family, and the only official monarchy. The family ("Mejisterians") that ruled there feared that to join the council would be to dilute their power.
Jugnez was ruled ruled by families friendly to the Mejisterian kingdom. They were locked in a bitter feud with the Isle of Gerheim (ruled by House Persson). When the Steve refused to guarantee aid and appointed Herobrine they refused to join. Dusk owed its allegiance to powers beyond the Veil of Sanity and within the Tempest. Bastion of the Great Airmen of within the Veil.
The Old Continent:
The land which most ancient civilizations stem from. Contains a random array of weather patterns. Currently the home of the city of Mojang as well as the great Crafts surrounding it. In its Southern-most regions are the two Thaumlands.
Endlings:
Speaker Noctus I (Noctus the benevolent) annihilates opposition entirely. Unites Endling clans under the banner of the Obsidian Shard, governed from the city of Arcath. The Obsidian Empire is established. Full control of the area now known as the Old Continent is established. First Endling dynasty established.
Obsidian shard:
The (false) deity of the Endlings. Represented in the city of Arcath by a “magical” shard of obsidian behind the throne of The Speaker. All messages to the Endling people communicated via The Speaker. Religion originates from Arcath, and was little more than a regional cult before Noctus spread it in his conquests.
(Seph’s note: Just wanted to emphasise to Grumm that I do think that Noctus was a warmonger and a ***** but that’s not what I’m setting out to prove am I? I want to give people the facts you consistently stupid being. Notch! It’s like speaking to a creeper, or a “Strange One” as you tossers have decided to label them. By the way. STOP NAMING THINGS STUPID ****! I UNDERSTAND I'M ABOUT 400 YEARS LATE BUT IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF!)
Arcath:
Ancient capital of the Endlings. Ruins of this city are now used as an entry point to the Farlands.
Farlands:
A true anomaly. A land where the laws of nature are different, resulting in the ground consuming people, floating mountains, oddly flat cliffs and all manner of other bizarre phenomena. It is unclear when it was created but it seems to have first appeared around the time of the Endless War.
Pigmen/Testificates:
Testificates left in peace by Endlings, used as trading posts. The monastic cities they call home however are not equipped for war, and they fail to unite. As a result they must allow the Endlings to enter their lands freely and be subject to Endling law.
Large Pigman territories to the East are conquered by and annexed into Obsidian Empire. Remaining Pigman kingdoms are able to fight the war to a standstill. A peace treaty is signed.
