What if, someone made an anime of Minecraft, where people were stuck in it Sword Art Online style?
Ok, so, people are trying out the new version of the Occulus Rift or w.e the crap it's called, and one of the biggest games out for it is a new version of Minecraft(call it 2.0 for example) and you play it by putting on the headgear, sitting in a specialized chair with pedals(push down = jump, pull up = crouch, pedal = walk, faster = run) and similar controls on the arms, move left arm is left click, right is right click, etc.
So Mojang celebrates 2.0 by holding a big event, where thousands of players play these at an event(Think E3). Thousands of players, hundreds of servers, all playing these live at the event. There's a mysterious "power outage" for a few seconds, and when it turns back on, only about half of the players were taking their gear off, the rest were in a coma in the game.
So they flip their lids of course and try to get the players awake, and then someone turns the livestream back on and sees that they're all at the loading screen. It's adding all sorts of wierd stuff(that will be discovered later), then the players are all logged in. There is no login screen, once the client finished loading they went straight into the world.
Thousands of players(let's say 3000-3500ish, with 300-500 to a "server")
The world isn't the pregenerated, Mojang approved world that they were in before, with a fancy spawn and admins flying around. Instead it's a brand new world, generated from scratch, (or it seems that way), but they don't all spawn in the same spot, but all spread out. Each player has a wooden sword and 3 loaves of bread, instead of the full diamond "boost set" they had in the event. But, more worrisome, is that their hearts look different. They were playing on hardcore As the panic ensues, the chat log opens and a single message appears, from the "Server Consciousness" This is hardcore, there are special additions here for your enjoyment, try not to die, you won't respawn, For three days the world is on Peaceful and pvp is disabled. Afterwards pvp will be enabled and the difficulty will be set to Extreme(new difficulty added in 1.9)enjoy your new life
Players panic and spread out, most running into other players within the hour, they quickly discover there are world "borders" at 2500 blocks out from the world center(0,0), the "borders" are simply giant walls of bedrock that go both up and down, several dozen blocks above the building height cap, and all the way down to bedrock. players can still access coordinates with a convenient minimap located in the top right corner, at 0,0 there is a single bedrock block placed on a platform of obsidian, with a sign that says "Wtb better spawn" Nobody can build or destroy within 25 blocks of the bedrock block.
Panic ensues, but nobody manages to die, meanwhile at Mojang they are flipping their lids, tables, desks, and most of all trying to ward off the political drama this is causing. As they try to pull players out, regain server access, or at least figure out what happened, the players begin to do the only thing they can do. They play(some panic and sit there of course, but not everyone has realized how bad the situation is yet, alot of players think it's still a game and this is all a joke)
The story would cover one or two players in the game and their life outside of the game(family etc), and how the players realize how much more is there that shouldn't be in minecraft normally, what's beyond the wall, how to use all the new things, the formation of guilds/pvpers, clans, factions, towns, world bridges, all of the extra stuff(basically modded 2.0 that shouldn't be there, as mods are still at 1.7 and 1.8 at the best, with 1.9 being highly incompatible with mods and 2.0 being unreleased to the public still) and the true "escape" as well as those who choose not to leave and those who do.
I haven't put too much thought into the characters, originally was thinking of a self insert, realized that nobody wants to read about me cutting down trees for 5 hours a day, and that a "Kirito" type character would be kind of lame(plus I suck at the romance/drama. Mostly the latter.) I did have a few ideas as to the progression and world locks and whatnot, some vague ideas about killing the dragon and the wither, placing a beacon at spawn, and unlocking everything, but nothing specific.
This is all just an idea I cooked up after staring at my modded worlds tree farm for 30 minutes(was trying to think of how to automate it into a charcoal generator with as little work as possible, got sidetracked, came up with this)
Again, this is mostly an idea, I may not follow up with it due to being shipped off to Basic Training on August 5th(I do, however, have 120 or so days of tech school with no internet, maybe I can do something in there with this), If someone else wants to take it up while I'm gone feel free, otherwise I'll see what I can do and if I have the drive to do a story after basic is over(Would be cruel to write a prologue or chapter 1 then dissapear for a third of a year, I wonder if updating this after that would count as a necro bump.. hope not)
