Hi there! I'm gravity_b0und, previously known as OnceInALongTime who wrote the unfinished Visions Of The Past: Enderworld. I left this site unexpectedly around a year ago. I hope this place is as alive as it once was. I'm going to write a new story, a better one, and I will not give up this time! I will update it when I can, I'll try everyday, but if every twice a week.

Description Gravity Bound is about a sophisticated and civilized world in Minecraftia, where everything and one is honest, just, and fair. Or is it? When the biggest natural disaster in centuries occurs at a nearby city, sightings and appearances of other-worldly creatures are increasing, but nobody notices except her. A normal girl named Emma dedicates herself to research on legends and mythical creatures, convinced that they are real. But when she breaks in to the government's secret files to get the information she wants, she gets it at a price.

00. (1015 words) Everyone remembers what they were doing when they first heard the news. It was a warm evening in the city of Twyn, where I had been living for the past fourteen years, and was clearing a table of plates and silverware in the cafe I worked in, CafeEINE. Suddenly, the news bulletin appeared on the screen of the television and the newscasters apologized for interrupting the show and announced that a level 8, nearly 9, earthquake was taking place on Aeon, the biggest and most populated city on the face of the planet, as well as the home of the president and other government officials. The newscasters were too baffled to explain and said that we just needed to see this.
The screen showed a LIVE video feed of Aeon, as the buildings were crashing down onto the streets below, scattering people and vehicles alike everywhere. Helicopters flew around the place, trying to save as many people as they could, as policemen and soldiers tried to control the situation, but failing miserably. The entire cafe’s eyes were planted onto the screen in utter and complete silence. The redstone wiring had been destroyed and the lights of the city went out, except for a few lights using the extra power from the energy saving project the government had started recently this month and flashlights from the policemen and helicopters above. As the camera quickly panned to the right, there was cursing heard from the filming crew as the ground was becoming darker and darker, and deeper and deeper, until we realized the ground was being sucked into a large black hole where a portion of the city once was. We could see it growing larger and larger quickly until it was around a hundred feet in diameter. A sinkhole?
Then we heard it.A loud ear-splitting scream echoed through the entire room as the camera fell forward out of reach of the camera group and down towards the sinkhole. As it fell closer, the screams became louder and louder, debris falling everywhere. The sinkhole became nearer and nearer until we could see little purple specks every here and there until we could hear little voices, unhuman-like, like nothing we’ve ever heard talking some sort of gibberish, shaking and shivering and shrieking. The screen flashed the TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES sign as everyone just stared at the screens, closing their eyes, covering their ears, holding their breaths until everything was absolutely still.
‘They’re here.’ I looked behind me at a table in the corner of the room. Everyone had heard him and was looking at him too. The man’s name was Stan, and he was seated with his wife, Starr, and two children, who looked as equally as horrified as he did. ‘They’re coming.’ the man stammered. ‘They’re coming for us. They’re coming for you. It’s time.’ he cried. Then, he looked sternly in my direction and pointed a finger at me.
‘You.’ he hissed. ‘They’re looking for you and they’re closer than ever. They’re trying to open a portal into this world from beyond the gates of the Nether. We’re in for something big and you have no idea what we’re in for.” his eyes began to glow a bright purple and his skin becoming darker and darker. His legs and arms grew longer until he had changed completely. His family looked the same.
‘Who the Nether are you?!’ shouted one of the customers.
‘I’ve got 911 connecting right now, sir.’ muttered Samantha, one of the waitresses to our manager, Regoreidin, who already had the phone in his hands. ‘We have an emergency, we have an Enderman on our hands-’ An Enderman?
I slowly stood up and walked towards Stan, or what used to be Stan. ‘What are you?’ I asked nervously. He cackled in return, and his ‘family’ followed too and said, ‘Your worst nightmare.’ he looked towards the ground and shrieked like what we had heart in the television. Glass shattered and spilled onto the floor everywhere, and people screamed and fell to the floor. Then finally, he took one piece of the wooden floor from the cafe ground, and took it out from the floorboards. Immediately, shadowy black figures sprouted out from it, running frantically across the entire room. Cackling and giggling ferociously.
The ground began shaking uncontrollably, plates, glasses and silverware were sliding onto the floor, people were screaming, children were crying. People ducked under the tables and covered their heads. I was breathing heavily with my eyes open. My heart was pounding in my chest and I was horrified, scared, afraid. Twyn was only around an hour’s ride away from Aeon by horse, and Aeon was humongous. If that pit had consumed a fourth of the city, what would it do to us? To me? As I ducked under a table and covered my head. I thought of my Aunt Marissa and Uncle Sirius, who were the only bits of family I had left. I thought of my best friend, Faye, who was the only true friend I ever had.
Then I thought of dying.
The possibility of death. Just the mere idea of it.
I knew that’s what I would be a few seconds from now. I saw a blinding, blurry, white light shining into my eyes, and someone carrying me up and winding something tight around my waist. This it it, I thought. Then I felt my head and feet fall as I was being lifted up, giving me one last glance at the OverWorld. Upside down, rubble and debris was spread across the pavement, people were shouting and running as policemen and government soldiers bringing people into trucks and shouting out orders.
Then it appeared. It. Stan. The tall, dark creature, the Enderman, that had appeared in the cafe. It looked at me carefully, as if it were studying me, like it knew something I didn’t, stood still with it’s heavy, purple eyes directed towards my own. I felt a pair of hands pull at my arms and legs towards the light and reality slowly drifted away.

They say it was the worst natural disaster that had taken place in centuries. A level 8 earthquake accompanied with a sinkhole was incredibly odd, said scientists, but most of them were convinced that this had been an extremely random earthquake. As for the sinkhole, it had been caused by sewage malfunctioning or perhaps a few of the mine shafts that were still located underneath Aeon.
The north-west part of Aeon was already repaired, being the farthest from where most of the wreckage happened and a few people who could afford it were already moving back. The president and the most important government officials had been brought to safety in the first ten minutes of the disaster and located to the second biggest city in the OverWorld, called Feyte. The others weren’t that lucky. Many of Aeon’s richest citizens had also been able to flee immediately, filling their pockets with as much money they could get.
Around 75% of Aeon’s population had been wiped out and the rest of the world had already been improving their defenses in case of another natural disaster such as this. The remaining 25% resided with their families, mostly in cities like Gareim, Loreen, and Delphi (where it was easiest to get a decent job). The victims of the disaster had been located to Carel, having lost everything, they were supplied with food, water, shelter, medication, and some were even able to work to earn money. Most of them had families living in nearby cities who brought them home, but the others who didn’t, were offered jobs, just so they could earn a living.
When I woke up, I was one of those people, lying in bed. There were curtains at both my sides and a white tiled ceiling above me, where I could hear other people moaning and groaning, and soft whispering. A woman wearing a plain, white, collared dress and a cap was at the foot of the bed. She was smiling sadly. Immediately, I recalled last night’s events, or had it been last night? How long had I been asleep?
“Hello, I am Nurse Joan. I’ll be assisting you for the next few days. What’s your name, honey?” she asked.
“I’m- I’m Emma. Emma Hartstrong. Where-where am I?” I asked weakly. She hesitated a little before answering.
“You are in Loyale Hospital. There was terrible earthquake three days ago in Aeon, and it reached all the way to Twyn, causing unbelievable damage, and the survivors were located here to Carel.” I noticed how she didn’t mention the sinkhole. “Are you hungry?” she asked, changing the subject. “I’m gonna go get you some food and water, m’kay? You just wait here, darling.” I didn’t see where she thought I’d possibly be going now, but I nodded weakly as she hurried away.
My entire body felt numb and bruised, covered with red scratches and purple bruises. But I felt like I had just taken a shower. Maybe I did take a shower earlier, but I didn’t remember much. I started processing what she had said. Unbelievable damage? Where was Aunt Marissa and Uncle Sirius? Where was Faye? Were they okay, were they alive? My mind wandered on that thought, were they alive? I wanted to scream. I felt a sick feeling in my stomach, I felt like vomiting.
Nurse Joan came back right in time with a cup of water, an apple, two loafs of bread, and some mushroom stew. “Take your time, sweetheart. If you need help, just press this button over here,” she pointed at a button at the side of my bed, “and a nurse will come by immediately. In a few hours, we’ll be asking you a few questions so we can get you back to your family. Would you like to change?”
“Oh, yes please.” I only noticed now I was wearing those white dress-thingamajigs they make you wear in the hospital. I was eager to get out of it. She showed me a selection of clothes on the television screen to my left. This was new, but I liked it. I chose a black Arctic Monkeys shirt with a pair of blue shorts (but they were all below the knee) and some black sandals. I don’t think my sore feet could stand sneakers yet.
I took the mushroom stew and put it on my lap, it was still warm. I drank it slowly, feeling satisfied as it went down my throat. It reminded me of something. My head hurt thinking about what it was, so I put it away at the back of my mind for later. The nurse arrived after twenty minutes with my clothes. She shut the curtains and helped me change. It felt sort of awkward, but I knew I didn’t have enough strength to change by myself.
I was extremely bored, after I had finished most of the food, and slipped the apple into my inventory, I spent my time staring at the ceiling and looking at the clock. Finally, after what seemed like hours, Nurse Joan returned.
“Time to go for awhile.” she whispered. She took my hands and helped me sit up and get off the bed. We walked down a long hallway with patients in every stall with a nurse giving them food, medicine, or trying to calm them down. We took a right and passed more patients, and turned left and passed even more patients. It seemed endless. I began to feel sick again.
Finally, we stopped at a bright room with chairs lining the sides with potted plants in each corner of the room. A coffee table sat in the center with a bunch of magazines and a bunch of flowers. A television set showed two people talking about a celebrity was getting married. I didn’t really care about that. There was a long mirror at the end of the room taking up almost the entire upper part of the wall, and an iron door to it’s left.
‘Have a seat, Emma.” I sat down on the seat closest to the door, so that I didn’t need to walk across the entire room. “He will see you in a moment. When you’re finished, another nurse will be waiting to escort you back.”
“Okay.” I watched the clock, but it only seemed to become slower every second. A young boy with a baseball cap over his black, curly hair wearing a plaid red shirt and torn pants exited the room, slamming the door behind him. He stomped his feet and cursed. He turned and looked at me, and laughed.
“You get dumped too?” he asked smiling wickedly. “I guess so.” I replied.
“You look really jacked up.” “You do too.” I said, noticing the cuts along his arms. “Does it hurt?”
“Yeah, it sucks. Everyone here’s a piece of sh*t.” “Woah there, tiger.” I smiled. “What’s your name?”
“What’s it to you?” he scowled. “Nothing. Geez, Squidward.” he chuckled this time, and his smile became friendlier.
“I bet you think you’re real funny.” I shrugged. “I do my best.” I answered. He nodded and turned to leave.
“My name’s Charlie.” he said. “Nice to meet you Charlie, I’m Emma.”
“The guy in there’s waiting for you. I guess I’ll see you round, Ems.” he took off his cap and waved it in the air. I waved back, but he wasn’t looking.
When he had disappeared behind the wall, I stood up and pushed the iron door and entered. A man in a white coat and dark hair sat on a chair at the end of the small room, a table separating us.
“I see you met Charlie Andrews.” he said, standing up and walking over to me. He extended his hand, and I shook it. “I’m Doctor Miles.”
“Emma Hartstrong.”
“Ah, yes. I heard. Have a seat, Miss Hartstrong.” he said gesturing to the seat. We sat down at the same time. I shuffled in my seat. It wasn’t very comfortable.
“Emma,” he started. “I’ll just be asking you a few questions about yourself and your family. That’s it.” I nodded.
“How old are you?” he asked, taking out a pad of paper and a pen from his bag.
“I’m sixteen.”
“In high school?”
“Yeah. Twyn High.”
“You’re from Twyn?”
“Yes. I live with my aunt and uncle who reside there. We live in a house on Chestnut St.” He asked me questions until I got sick of them, but after an hour, he nodded. “I think we have enough information. Thank you very much, Emma.”
I stood up almost immediately, thanked him, and exited the room. I could see why Charlie was so annoyed. That guy asked really personal questions from time to time. How would knowing if I had a boyfriend going to help him locate my aunt and uncle? Wait a minute. I looked at the door and shook my head.
A nurse was sitting on a chair in the corner. She was looking at a card with her picture on it. Once she saw me, she stood up and looked at me. “Are you Emma Hartstrong?”
“Yes I am.”
“Okay then, follow me.” I followed her back down the hallways, trying not to look at the people to my right. “Can I go to the washroom?” I asked the nurse. She led me down another hallway and into the female’s washroom. “Be quick.” she said.
As I walked in, it was nearly empty, except for a girl who looked two years older than me with long, red hair wearing a long black top and shorts. I looked in the mirror. I looked the same. My hair was a dirty brown, twisting and curling down until my shoulders. My eyes had heavy eye bags under them. Not to mention, my skin looked frighteningly pale. The t-shirt looked one size too big, but it was comfy. I had a cut on my forehead and along my arms and hands, and even a few along my legs. They looked like they were healing. There was one bruise on my neck and two on my left leg, one on the front and another on the back.
“You look horrible.” the girl said, now applying make-up.
“Thanks.” I said, exiting the washroom. The nurse was already walking away, and I followed. But as I neared my bed, I saw the person to my right, sitting in bed.
“Charlie?” he stared at me.
“You’re right beside me?” he exclaimed through the curtain as I sat down in bed.
“Yup, you’re one lucky guy.” I knew he was smiling now.
“You’re not going to stop talking to me now, aren’t you?” I didn’t answer. “Anyway, I’m bored. I wouldn’t mind chatting.” he peeked through the curtain at me. “So Emma, how’s it going? Is your life as f-ed up as mine yet?” I shrugged again.
“Depends on what you mean.” I replied.
“I mean, no family, dead friends, no home to go back to, in fact, nothing to go back to. Just the skin and clothes on your back. That sort of f-ed up.” his voice seemed a little heavy, but he must have noticed and cut it out. “I’m sorry about all that, but I guess I’m that f-ed up too.”
“Everyone who was affected by the disaster were located here, or those who were still alive. They keep telling me I’m really lucky to be alive, but I think I’d be better off dead.”
“I don’t know what I’m going to do now, but I’m going to figure out what caused that disaster. I heard on the news that they think it was extremely random. That’s really stupid.”
“I agree. You can go on the internet using the television, but your searches are monitored. I arrived two days ago, and I’ve been doing a little research ever since. How have you been doing research?”
“I haven’t done much research yet, but I usually read books.”
“Oh my Notch.” he exclaimed. “You’re not going to be like Randy are you?”
“Who’s Randy?”
“The guy who used to be in your spot yesterday. He wouldn’t stop talking to me about the latest book he was reading. He kept recommending stuff to me.”
“Perhaps you’re just irresistible like that.”

Charlie and I talked for three hours about who we were and who we wanted to be. We liked a lot of the same things, and a lot of different ones. When the nurses announced lights out, I considered him a friend. I realized I was really tired and so was he, and he fell asleep five minutes after we ended our conversation.
I still didn’t tell I thought of Faye, my only friend until now. I wish she was here, I hoped she was safe, that she was okay. Then before I drifted off to sleep, I saw it. In my head. It’s piercing purple eyes staring at me, into me. I screamed. Charlie jolted up immediately and swept aside the curtain separating us.
“EMMA!” he exclaimed. “EMMA, WHAT’S WRONG?!” I stopped and stared at him and began to cry. I could hear people wake up and begin complaining. A few nurses ran down the hallways, no one knew it was me who had screamed. Except Charlie. He had gotten up from his bed and was looking at me sternly at my bedside.
“I saw it again. I saw it again. I saw it again.” I mumbled, looking up and down at him frantically. He asked me what it was that I saw. “The Endeman.” I whispered. His eyes grew big.
“Emma, you were just dreaming. It I’m not stupid. just a dream.” he whispered to me.
“No, before they took me. The last thing I saw was the Enderman, I forgot all about it.” Charlie’s mouth made a perfect O.
“Emma, those things are myths. They aren’t real.” he said back. “That’s impossible.”
“I saw it with my own eyes, Charlie. You have to believe me, your my friend now, my only friend now. I have no one.” I said, breathing heavily. I took the apple out of my inventory and started eating. I felt myself calming down. When Charlie went back to bed, I didn’t.
I stayed up. I typed ENDERMAN in the search engine and clicked on the first link called KNOW YOUR MYTHS: CREATURES: THE ENDERMAN. I wrote down the information exactly.
The mythical Endermen are mobs that are three times our height that spawn in the OverWorld if the light levels are seven or less. In the OverWorld, they are found in caves in the day, but can be found wandering around on the surface at night. They spawn in pairs and groups, but teleport to different locations, and usually one or two are spotted at the same time. They do not harm people unless provoked. They are known for their ability to teleport one place to another, to pick up specific blocks and items, and the strange and eerie noises that they make.
Endermen’s known weakness is water and fire. They take damage when it rains or in fire, and they teleport as quick as they can looking for shelter, but usually die in the process (they look prefer to stay in dry areas). And due to their tall three-block-height, if they teleport anywhere with a ceiling less than three blocks, they will get their heads stuck and try to teleport away, which usually fails, and they die.
Endermen remain harmless unless you look at them from 64 blocks (or less) away, then they will then make a long, loud screech and approach you, opening their mouth wide and shake. Although, you can stare at it’s torso, and it will stop shaking, so you can approach and attack it (but it will teleport behind you. Avoid making eye contact with it, or it will begin to attack you. If you’re lucky, if another mob attacks an angry Enderman, it will stop attacking you. It is recommended to wear a pumpkin over your head when encountering Endermen, and they will not become provoked unless you hit them. Once they begin to attack you, they will not stop until you are killed or injured. But they can become distracted with other elements.
Endermen live in another dimension called The End, their home world. There, they
“They what?!” I mumbled. “What’s The End?”
The page seemed to be hanging. I clicked the refresh button. A window popped up where the page once was, ACCESS TO INFORMATION: DENIED, it read. I folded the notes up and stuffed them in my pockets. I typed in THE END in the search engine, eager to get a result, but the same window popped up.
“Come on!” I muttered to myself. I tried again.
ACCESS TO INFORMATION: DENIED.
And again.
ACCESS TO INFORMATION: DENIED.
I tried to refresh until I had tried at least ten times. I needed to find out the information. I yawned, covering my mouth. But I needed to get some sleep first. I closed the windows on the screen and deleted the history. I laid my head back onto the pillow and let my eyes fall. I was fast asleep before I knew it.
====================
“Rise and shine!” I heard a familiar voice whisper. I opened my eyes groggily and saw Charlie looking down at me. “It’s like twelve in the afternoon, Ems!” he exclaimed.
“I slept late last night.” I mumbled, yawning. I looked to my right. The nurses had left me another tray of food. A steak and some potatoes, accompanied with some water. I poured some water in my hand and put it up to my eyes. I was feeling awake already.
“What were you doing?”
“Nothing.” I mumbled. I didn’t want anyone to know about this.
“C’mon Ems, you can tell me! I’m your friend!”
“We just met yesterday.”
“Yeah, but still!” he exclaimed persistently. “I’ll trade you stuff, how 'bout information? I know more than you might think, I promise.” he made an X gesture over his heart.
“What kind of information?” I asked, leaning in closer.
“I spent my life playing video games, I can trade you some info on redstone wire mechanism. I even know a little about enchanting! I would tell you about mining, bur I’ve never actually been mining, only the experts do that now.” he bowed his head and shuffled his feet. He looked up at me again. “Now tell me!”
“Fine.” I answered, giving in. “I was just researching about Endermen.” he eyed me weirdly.
“Is this because of that dream? Because Endermen are not real.”
“I knew you wouldn’t believe me, but it wasn’t a dream, and I’m not some nut-job, okay? Before they brought me here, I saw an Enderman. And the cafe I worked in, right before the earthquake hit, one of our customers turned into one. He picked up a block from the floor, and these black shadowy figures flew out! Believe me, Charlie.” I was already on my knees, sitting on the bed. He sighed.
“Yeah okay, I believe you.” I felt relieved. “But that would mean Endermen are real, and if they are real, what’s stopping them from coming out every night and killing everyone? Do you have any notes?” I took out the crumpled papers from my pockets and smoothened them out. He took them from my hand. I watched his eyes scan through the words.
“What in Nether is The End?” he asked. “I’ve never heard about that before.” he sounded interested. “I don’t know, that’s what I’m trying to find out. Hey, how does this guardian locating thing work around here? How do they find my parents to take custody over me? I’m not even eighteen yet! How old are you?” “I’m seventeen. And what they do is they search the IDs of the people in the other hospitals they put the victims in and if they don’t find them, that means they were taken by the government for questioning or, you get it.” he rubbed the back of neck. I’ve seen people leave after their first day of staying here. I mean, it’s only my third day here, but...” I put my hand on his shoulder.
“I get it. I’m stuck in that same situation. You can trade me information later. I just need to figure out how I can get access to those files.”
“I can help you with that.”
“What?” I looked up at him. Charlie leaned closer to my ear and lowered his voice.
“Dude, I’ve been hacking into stuff since I was ten. I think I can help you hack into their files. It won’t be too hard. I’ll just need to find and employee’s ID and security number and a proper redstone wired computer. I saw some in one of the rooms down one of the hallways. I’d have to go to the end of this hallway, make a left, then a right at the third door and there are a few employee computers in different stalls.”
I remembered yesterday immediately. The nurse who had escorted me back to my bed, Nurse Grace, had been holding a card with the her employee information on it. I told this to him.
“That’s perfect!” he exclaimed. “We’ll need to get that card from her, and the easiest way would be to hug her, and steal it from her pocket’s inventory. Once we’ve obtained that, we can make our way to the employee computer station, where they have different computers in stalls separated by walls, so no one will catch us unless the employee working in that stall comes back. If you can distract one of the employees from going to his stall while I do my work.” I grinned.
“You’d do that for me, Charlie?”
“I’ve got nothing to lose. And if I get caught, we both get caught. Consider that equal. But don’t worry, we aren’t gonna get caught if you follow everything I said. Repeat the plan back to me.” I nodded. “Get nurse’s card, go to computer station, distract the employee.”
“You’re good.”
“Okay, but if I just randomly hug her, she’s gonna know something’s up. She’ll catch me taking her card, and she’ll report me or call the guards on me or something. And what if the nurses see we’re not in bed?” Charlie thought for awhile.
“I guess you’ll have to talk to her. Tell her about how sad you are, that you lost your family and friends. Make it sound tragic, cry. She’ll try to comfort you, and then you hug her. Grab the card, put it in your pocket. Wipe the tears, thank her, and meet me back here.”
“You’re just going to stay here?”
“I’m doing the main hacking part, the least you could do is get the ID!”
“Fine.”
“And about the nurses, they only help their assigned patients. You’re nurse is Joan right?”
“Yeah, she is.”
“She’s mine too. And from our conversations, she isn’t too, um, bright, for giving me the answer to every single question I asked. She’ll just think that our parents or guardians already took us. She’ll shrug it off. But after all this, we can’t go back to these stalls again. Someone will already have taken our place. We’ll have to leave. Which won’t be that easy. We’ll have to get new identities. You can be Nurse Grace, I’ll take care of myself. While I’m doing that, you’ll have to get new clothes. The clothes for the nurses are in the changing room, five doors to the left of the computer station, get the clothes and change. I’ll meet you by the computer station. Now, repeat the plan to me.”
“Get nurse’s card, go to computer station, distract the employee, assume Grace’s identity, meet you at the computer station.”
“Have you been on the internet lately? The same information is kept from public eyes without authority. We’ll need an ID anyways. But you’re doing really great so far, most of the girls I’ve met would’ve made me repeat this to them three more times.”
“I’m not stupid. And how do you know all this?” I asked.
“I think I’m just really observant and strategic. And I have a really good memory, if I do say so myself.” he raised his chin.
“Bragger.” he laughed.
“And when you play video games, those traits are handy to have. Or else it’s GAME OVER for you. Say, have you ever played a video game?”
“Yeah, once. I wasn’t too good at it, though.”
“What was it called?”
“I don’t remember, but it had something to do with getting to the end of the castle while avoiding all the monsters and getting as much points as you could. There were a lot of secret passages I had to find too. Pretty mainstream.” he chuckled.
“Well, when we get to the escaping part of our plan, just look at it this way. The hallways are the passages, the people are the monsters. If you can, avoid them. If they ask you something, if they’re suspicious, fight them. Well, metaphorically. You’ll have to use your wits to think of something. The points are the steps you take, as we get closer and closer to the exit.”
“I don’t think I can do all that.” I whispered. I was feeling nervous and anxious.
“Don’t worry.” Charlie assured. “I’ll be your Player Two."

“Get the nurse’s card, go to the computer station, distract the employee, assume Grace’s identity, meet Charlie at the computer station. Get the nurse’s card, go to the computer station, distract the employee, assume Grace’s identity, meet Charlie at the computer station...” I repeated the five step plan to myself repeatedly. Charlie had to go with the nurses, so I was alone.
I pressed the button at the side of my bed, and in less than ten seconds, a nurse appeared. It was someone I didn’t know. “Hello Emma, I’m Nurse Betty.” she said, reading from a clipboard. “Can I be of any assistance?” I had to think quickly, on my feet.
“Uh,” I started. “I’m more comfortable with, um, Nurse Grace. Can you call her?”
“I’ll go get ‘er for ya.” Nurse Betty sighed and left. Later on, a tired Nurse Grace stumbled into my stall with a tray of food. She placed it on the drawer. Her hair was tied into a chunky bun on the top of her head, and she looked like she hadn’t slept at all.
“How can I help you, sweetie?” she asked. Make this look real, make this look real, Emma, I told myself. Here we go. “I just needed someone to talk to.” I mumbled. I tried to think of something, anything that would make me cry. I got it almost immediately. “It’s my second day here, and I’m just- just. I’m so scared. What will happen to me? What if my parents are dead, where will I go? Grace, I need your help!” I tried to make my face look red, and my eyes too. Grace looked like she pitied me.
“I’m really sorry.” she said. “I also lost my husband in the attacks. Luckily, all my other family members made it to safety. That is, if my children can live down the fact of their dead father.” The attacks? I thought. Grace looked like she was about to upchuck all over the bed.
“I’m so sorry about your husband, Grace.” I started, making my cheeks all puffy. I thought of my dead mother and father, and tears swept down my cheeks.
“Oh honey, no, no.” she said. I looked down, sweeping hair onto my face. It wasn’t pretty, but Grace seemed convinced. “Come ‘ere.” she said.
“Oh!” I exclaimed, I wrapped my arms around her, she seemed surprised, but she hugged me back. It seems she needed it too. I swiped the card from her pocket easily. I stole five dollars from my uncle’s wallet every week, just for back-up money or cheap collectibles. When I looked up, she was crying too.
“Thanks for being so comforting. I really appreciate it.” I said, stuffing the card quickly in my pocket. As she wiped her face with her sleeve and left, I felt bad for stealing her ID card. Her full name was Mary C. Grace. She was thirty-two years old. I memorized her social security number. I ignored most of the other information.
I looked at the food she had brought. Mostly snacks. A pack of carrots, another apple, and some cookies and milk. I drank the milk and cookies as quickly as I could. I put the apple and the carrots in my inventory. Charlie came back right in time.
“Step two, go to the computer station.” I whispered into his ear, showing him the card in my pocket. He smiled.
“Are those real tears?”
“Sort of. She was convinced.”
“Okay, give me the card.” I gave it to him, and he looked at it from his inventory. He looked very satisfied.
“Perfect. Now come on, I found an open stall at the corner of the room. But first, put this on.” He swept the curtains separating our beds aside, and took out two long, white coats from under his bed, and passed me a pair of heels and a black dress. A nametag was pinned on each. “I swiped them so that we didn’t need to change later on, so we could save some time, and save you the trouble.” My nametag said Carolyn B. Moore. His said Thomas L. Barnes.
“Ugh, I hate heels.” I mumbled.
“That’s all they had, unless you wanna walk barefoot.” he said, closing the curtain between us. I would prefer too, but people would be suspicious. I put on the dress and heels, and combed my hair with my hands. I sort of liked the dress, but the heels were an absolute pain.
“You done?” Charlie asked.
“Yeah.” I answered, before remembering I hadn’t put on the coat. Charlie swept aside the curtain and saw me in the dress. He paused for a moment. He was wearing a collared blue shirt and black jeans. He was already wearing his coat. I slipped mine on.
“Um, time to go.” he said. “Carolyn.” “Got it, Thomas.” I said back.
We swept aside the curtains, making sure there were no nurses along the hallway. I followed him, and we entered the computer station. We entered at the same time, and I could feel a few pairs of eyes directed on us. We both spotted the stall immediately, and went inside as quick as we could. The computer was on, and the stall empty. THOMAS L. BARNES was written at the corner of the stall wall.
“Luckily, Mr. Barnes is out today. You just need to stand here by the door.” he pointed at the opening.
“That’s it?
“Yup.” he said, grinning.
“That’s way too easy.”
“Just do it, okay?” I took a chair and waited by the door. After around ten minutes, I asked him if he was done.
“Almost, hang on.” he replied. I looked around.
“Carolyn?” I looked around and saw a man walking my way, looking at me strangely. I stood up and begin walking towards him. “What have you done to yourself, I just saw you earlier this morning!”
“Hello sir!” was all I could manage.
“What happened to your hair, it’s brown! You look like you haven’t slept well either... Why are you so pale? I already told you I love you just the way you are, not to get that skin-changing operation! Oh, darling, you’re beautiful! You look younger already!” he took my hand and looked me in the eye. I felt myself turn as red as a tomato.
“I’m f-fine.”
“Why are you acting so weird, Carolyn. And why were you in Thomas’s stall?” he leaned in closer. “You hate him!” I gulped.
“Um... I was just helping him out with his work. The boss ordered me to help him.”
“Carolyn, what are you talking about? I’m his boss, but I’m your boyfriend too. Now tell me the real reason.” I looked around to the nearest stall and it read FRANKIE G. MARTIN.
“Frankie told me to do it!” I covered my mouth. That did not come out right.
“Are you cheating on me, babe? ARE YOU CHEATING ON ME?” by now, the entire room was looking at us. I felt so embarrassed. “THOMAS!” he pointed a finger behind me. I turned and saw Charlie crawling out of the stall, his eyes wide open.
“I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING, BOSS, I SWEAR!”
“We didn’t do anything! I still love you!” I pleaded, almost puking at that love part.
“I DON’T BELIEVE YOU! GUARDS!”
“Emma, run!” Charlie shouted. I pushed Carolyn’s boyfriend, breaking free of his grip. I ran straight to the exit. He ran towards Charlie.
“Charlie, watch out!” I screamed, not looking behind me. I heard the crashing of glass behind me, but without looking, I bumped into someone, who dropped his papers and fell backwards. “I’m so sorry!” I can’t believe you screwed up this much, Emma, I thought to myself.
I looked back to see Carolyn’s boyfriend had fallen to the floor, grabbing at the air, surrounded by glass and gray-ish liquid. “A splash-potion!” I exclaimed as I ran out onto the hallway, dropping the coat onto the ground. I remembered taking that up in class one time. Charlie appeared beside me.
“Thomas had two in his inventory, he’ll be out for a minute. We have time to escape!”
“Charlie, I think we have other problems!” I cried, pointing behind us. Five guards were running towards us, with gleaming iron swords and glowing potions. They began to throw the potions at us. We pushed through crowds, rounded corners. The guards were persistent. We weren’t any closer to loosing them. Finally, one fell around Charlie’s right leg.
“It’s becoming numb!” he shouted. “I can’t feel it! I can’t feel my leg!” he tripped over. The guards were getting closer, and throwing more potions, one hit my left arm, and another hit my shoulder. The glass didn’t affect me, but I could feel the potion seeping through my skin and becoming heavier until it was too difficult to run. Charlie grabbed my arm, and I grabbed his.
“Put your arm over my shoulder, and I’ll put mine over yours, and use all your strength!” we tried our hardest, stumbling into the crowd. Some people fell to the floor, scattering papers and books and potions onto the floor, when some of the potion landed on them. I learned a lot of new curses though.
The guards were only a few blocks away when finally, after rounding a corner, we arrived at a dead end.
“I’m so sorry I put you through this!” I cried. Charlie stood up and moved his right leg. The potion had worn off! “It only lasted one minute. And don’t apologize yet! Look!” he pointed at the window. He began pounding his fists against it, and it opened easily. I looked down. We were only eight stories high, but we wouldn’t survive the landing if we jumped! But that was until I noticed...
“Charlie, we’ve got to jump!”
“Jump?! ARE YOU INSANE? We’ll kill ourselves!”
“Charlie, just trust me this time!” I grabbed his hand, and slipped a carrot into it, as I lifted him up on the windowsill. “Just follow my lead, there’s no time to explain!” The guards were at the end of the hall, running towards us. I held my breath, looked at Charlie, and we both nodded.
We leapt off the windowsill.
I screamed as I fell, but could see the twenty pigs with saddles right below us. I felt a thud under myself and squealing as both me and Charlie landed on the pigs. All of them began screaming out of control until I held the carrot in my hand out to them. Charlie, still shocked, did the same. We didn’t look back. Those guards would already be heading downstairs to get to us.
Before we knew it, we were able to steer our pigs out of the pig pen with ease. We were at the back of the building, with a bustling city scene in front of us. It sort of felt relieving, seeing the city again, the sun in out faces. It felt warm and comforting. It felt real. We led our pigs straight, onto the road once the combination of pigs and horses stopped. We let them run straight down the roads and down the sidewalks. And for a moment, we both forgot what we were doing.
We threw ourselves at the caution of the wind, and I hadn’t had this much fun in ages. We didn’t care who was watching. I screamed, telling him to come and get me, and we ran after each other on a wild goose chase along the sidewalks.
After a few minutes, we stopped at a park and tied our pigs to a post. I decided to name mine, Nellie. Charlie thought this was stupid, but he called his Harley. He said that if you put Nellie and Harley together, it sounds like “gnarly,” and he thought it was absolutely hilarious.
We fed Nellie and Harley some carrots. And exhausted, we sat down on a bench and eat whatever food we had in our inventory.
“I haven’t gone outside in ages. Much less, played.”
“Me too.” I agreed. “Faye and I never do this.”
“Who’s Faye?”
“My best friend.”
“She has a hot name.” I laughed.
“She has a boyfriend too.” he cursed and smiled.
“Okay, let’s hold up on this Faye-fest and get to work.”
“Work?”
“Yeah! We are officially partners now.” I nodded.
“Okay, but we could be being watched.”
“Whisper.” he muttered, sitting closer to me.
“Fine, fine. But first, I’ll need to find the nearest computer so we can access your files. Heck, I should just get a laptop! Got any money?” Charlie flipped his pockets inside out. A phone fell out.
“No money, but we’ve got a phone.” he opened the phone. “This Thomas dude was smart enough to put a password on his phone, but not keep his wallet in the coat. We can copy-paste the info on a note on this phone, though.”
“Good idea!” I exclaimed. “Sign in using the ID now.”
“Emma? What are you thinking? We could get hacked easily.”
“Oh,” I said, lowering my head. “sorry.”
“Our main priority is to find somewhere to stay until we figure everything out. Do you have any people close to you that I can contact? That we can trust?”
“My aunt and uncle? Nope. Faye? Nope. That’s pretty much everybody.”
“Are you sure that’s it? No close co-workers or something? We’re sort of desperate.” It only took me a second to think.
“REGOREIDIN! He’s the manager of the cafe I work in. He keeps his phone with him ALL. THE. TIME. If they tried to take it away from him, he would do everything to get it back.”
“You work as a waitress?”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“Nothing, just trying to imagine you as one. But anyway, that’s perfect!” I smirked at him, and he smirked back. I told him his number, and luckily, it connected.
“Hello?” his low voice answered. “Who’s this?”
“Regoreidin? It’s me, Emma Hartstrong?” I said, relieved deeply. “I need your help.”

Welcome back Once, a pleasure to have one of the old veterans still around (besides asan, sc1020 and is Dejers still around?). So far a great read and I look forward to what you've got planned for this.
Don't worry, Minefic is still very much alive. The influx of pro fanfics has just thinned. Atm, the active ones I know of (that are on minefic) are myself, Mister_Blak, Asan, Craftwood and Nomolos. We sadly lost Sangiin recently.
There's also a whole load of stuff going on outside Minefic. Literature section lives.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that! I do remember sc1020 and dejers. Minefic and the entire literature section was just so glorious to me back then, I will read a lot more of the stories here, I have no idea what I've been missing ever since last year. Thanks!
Chapter One is out! It's a little long, so take your time to read it. My story isn't too fast paced (not until any action scenes *wink wink*) yet, so it isn't too exciting yet. Mostly some character development. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
Chapter Two is out! It's longer than the first chapter, but I think it's more exciting. I can't wait to write the third chapter, where the action finally happens. Hehehe...

Everyone remembers what they were doing when they first heard the news.

We live in a house on Chestnut St.”
He asked me questions until I got sick of them, but after an hour, he nodded.

How old are you?”
“I’m seventeen.
03. (2350 words)
“Carolyn.”
“Got it, Thomas.” I said back.

Don't worry, Minefic is still very much alive.
There's also a whole load of stuff going on outside Minefic. Literature section lives.
