So people. I think there have been enough minecraft fanfics released in the last few years for there to be such an awards show. We also need something to bring us all together and provide a bit of publicity to the newcomers. So, I thought this would be a good idea. What I was thinking would be to do something similar to the MC Machinima awards by NewScapePro ().
However, for this we'd organise a livestream event, in which stuff would happen and awards would be given. Perhaps if anyone knows a machinima maker we could create a highly edited video out of this. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
So, for this what we need are:
Someone who can livestream or record: to make a show of this. Preferably someone with any sized audience.
Someone who has a server: to host the event.
Two more judges: to help me decide which pieces are the best.
You: To nominate ALL THE WRITINGS AND SPREAD THE WORD!!!
So if anyone is at all interested in taking part in this, post below and keep this up at the top of the literature section. Happy writing!
I have some questions. I don't think I want to be a judge due to time constraints, but I'm putting this out there to everyone else:
What should the qualifications be for nominating a story? Should the story be complete? Should the story be a certain length? What time range of stories will the contest consider?
As far as categories go, I feel it would be most fair to divide stories by format as opposed to genre, i.e. short stories, novels, and so forth. Dividing by genre might be somewhat lopsided, as it could potentially give an unfair advantage to people who write something obscure because their competition is limited. If there are a sufficient number of nominations, categories could be further subdivided by where an author's efforts shine the most, in ways that are more or less independent from genre or format, e.x.: best plot, best community involvement, best writing style, most thought-provoking, and so on.
As for incomplete stories, I feel that circumstances tend to vary greatly from story to story, so the judges are probably best to be left with the decision of whether or not the story qualifies, and if so, which category it should belong to. A somewhat tougher but clearer position would be, of course, to only allow finished stories to be nominated.
It may be wise to divide stories based on how old they are, since this forum has been around for a while, but then again, such a division could be quite arbitrary, considering how much this subforum has grown. Assuming this contest ends up sticking around for a while, there could perhaps be a limit on how many times a story can be nominated, and a rule which disallows stories from winning the same award twice. If this contest is a one-shot deal, then dividing stories by their age could be more prudent. Most importantly, I hope that the system is designed in such a way that neither older/newer stories have an advantage.
Also, it appears your note about livestreaming got cut off.
OP updated mildly. I have decided to take the position as one of the judges. If anyone would like to fill the other two spaces please PM me. However I will be asking around for people to work with.
As for how a piece is qualified, it needs to be nominated by someone other than the author. It doesn't matter if it's your closest friend or little brother. At least you made the effort of nagging them to do it or they like your work.
Here are the categories, if you wish to nominate anything for any of the categories just copy-paste it with the name of your nomination:

Nah, it just never took off. Although if we could get together at least 5 people who have at least a surface knowledge of how to write a competent story to nominate and evaluate stories then I'd be more than willing to put together a fully fledged machinima style award ceremony.
