This is the story of a boy who takes complete control of the Jungle Clan, and makes it into a NATION.
The Origins
The jungle clan was founded by Edward Main in the times of the Iron Age where people have just learned to smelt iron the right way to make an almost un-breakable sword to fend off the monsters that lay beyond the clan. The wealthy did not always stay wealthy, as, in rough times, the chief decides how to spread the wealth out to equalize the economy and social class pressures. The farmers have to pay a $23 tax to live on their land monthly, about a 50-67% (and improving) of their overall income each month as this helps pay for the expansion of farmland which are 10x10 plots concluding into 4 chunks +. The blacksmiths and crafters have a 30% tax on however many items are sold from their stores every week(prices range from $13-$923 as diamond and redstone have not been discovered yet), to contribute to improving the shops and creating new ones. The middle class(shop owners) are taxed 38% of their monthly income to contribute to the improvement of existing houses(5%), building new houses(6%), infrastructure(6%), research of technologies(7%), and royal guard upkeep(7%). There is currently no information on what lay behind the surrounding mountains at this time, resulting in a very stable economy with no outside influence on culture or lifestyles.
Led by Edward Main and his wife, Helena Main, The Main Tribe deals with governmental issues. In the fifteen-year-war, Helena had helped to boost the supply capacity to troops to ultimately win the war and conquer all of the known tribes in the jungle. Helena let these tribes thrive within their own governments, but they had to pay 17% of their overall income to the tribal council to split up the uses of money for governmental purposes(9%) and equalization of money throughout the tribes(8%). The income from the different tribes were in the ballpark of about $6000-$10000 (overall income), depending on the good/harsh times that the tribes were in. There are 8 tribes (Including the Main Tribe) that make up the Jungle Clan, but this doesn't mean that they are united, in other words, they are kept as protectorates that pay tribute to the Main Tribe and are expected to side with the Main Tribe in cases of war.
Led by Mapliem Sawim and his wife, Medwiem Sawim, The Sawim Tribe deals with lumbering and research of new tools/utilities made only with wood/cobble products. Their inventions benefit the clan very much because most of the defense mechanisms(trapdoors, wooden gate, TNT catapult, etc.) were very efficient and did lots of damage to intruders en masse. They are currently researching fire arrows that don't get extinguished while in flight.
Led by Weqiam Misnoem and his wife, Itqoplisda Misnoem, The Misnoem Tribe deals with messages from the heavens and interpretations. This tribe can take warnings from the gods to their advantage(committing treason), or benefiting the clan in many ways. This is the poorest tribe in the clan, making only $300 every three months, also making it the smallest. This tribe has a very low export amount(they only pay in messages from the gods), but a very high import amount, making it the third most used tribe in the clan
Led by Smain Depwon and his wife, Pnailen Depwon, The Depwon Tribe deals with making anything that could protect your body and defend yourself with, in this case, armor/weaponry. The smiths that live here are very rich, making 6%-8% of the clan's income every two months. This tribe can provide for itself at any given time because of the very secure direct supply route with the Sawim Tribe. This tribe has just finished researching double-edged swords. These swords are very efficient, as double-edged swords can take back-to-back action more quickly than the usual one-edged sword, but also needs the right person to wield it to, only then, harness its true powers. This tribe has a wooden palisade surrounding the city to protect it from intruders from the outside, not that there were ever very many, but in short spurts, as monster spawns are more concentrated on major cities. This tribe is currently researching how to make stronger iron armor.
Led by Infawem Erutcurts and his wife, Demsion Erucurts, The Erucurts Tribe works on infrastructure, and is a traveling tribe. Some of their income comes from trade from their food and valuables. They always hunt for food when they're not building/upgrading roads for the Jungle Clan. This tribe builds travelers outposts along the unclaimed parts of the jungle and roads leading to them, these outposts are replenished every two months to ensure the safe travel of armies and wanderers when they run out of food. They buy armor and weaponry to defend themselves at night when they're not close to an establishment. This tribe lives on trade and tribute when they're not building. The tribe is currently researching paved roads.
Led by Hctaw Niatnuom and his wife, Malomai Niatnuom, the mountain watch tribe watches the borders and sees whomever might come through. If a foreigner is let through this tribe, the clan is endangered from outside influence, spying, raiding, and even war. This tribe is founded by the government. These people have their main tribe set up upon the highest peak near the middle of the clan, as even this was not enough to watch out for any enemy coming into the valley. The surrounding jungle is known to be unforgiving to people that travel there because those who wander off into the jungle do not return. There is a mountain peak on the far side of the jungle that is known to be called "Travelers Peak". Anyone who can make it this far into the jungle may very well come into contact with foreign powers and be named the real king of the jungle. The Mountain Watch tribe cannot travel far out, because there are no mountains outside of the clan, surrounding it, and this tribe specializes in charging on steep terrain. This tribe is currently researching improved charge tactics.
There are two tribes that are run strictly by the government, and make up "Area 51" of the clan. These two tribes are the synthetic research and human anatomy research tribes. The Synthetic Research Tribe is currently researching plastic, while the Human Anatomy Research Tribe is studying how the body works. These tribes are self-sustainable, as they have superior products that are only sold to the nobles, and very few middle and low class people.
Note: These conditions have been maintained throughout rebellions and re-conquering.
This chapter hopefully tells you how the clan's government works, how the plot will be like, and how the main character will thrive throughout the story.
The Revolt
I wake up, I see ferns all around me, I see cocoa beans growing on trees, I see the sunrise.
I was always the first to wake up before anybody, to see the beautiful sunrise over travelers' peak. My parents had taught me, in their brief conversation before they had died.... that whomever climbed travelers' peak was bound to see foreign powers. This had happened when one of the mountain watch people decided to patrol travelers' peak, oh, how nice of him. Then came the war with the Snowy Clan. Nobody was dumb enough to go that far into the forest back then.
The war started with someone dropping off a decorated case in front of our clan's palace at night. The palace was very small at the time, only dotted with a few buildings and surrounded by walls. A guard picked up the case and brought it to the clan leader, only for the clan leader to find a head of the mountain watch tribe in it. After this, he sent out spies to travel beyond travelers' peak because he knew that it must have been foreign powers that have done this. The spies scouted around for information, but were lost in translation as the language barrier was too hard to break. The three spies had to start stealing some money because they saw a decorated case that looked like the case at the palace. The case was not very grand, as it only had coal and wool as decorations. The spies had bought it for 18 pieces of the foreign currency and brought it back for inspection.
The inspection rendered both to be the same type of case. The clan leader sent out a spy to blend in with the crowd and hopefully get some information on what ranks the enemy army were, how well they trained, and what type. The spy returned with plentiful information, he said that the enemy forces consisted of 1 unit of 34 town militia, 2 units of 56 horsemen, and 1 unit of 68 light infantry. The spy described their town as a loose-guarded city-state, and lighted all around to keep monsters from spawning. At this point, the clan leader was very delighted to hear this, because he would soon declare war against the Snowy NATION.
It turns out, that the spy had not been at the town for long enough. That day, the Snowy nation was having a holiday, so most of the town went to their friends' homes in the other towns of the nation. The clan leader set up an initial scouting army of 59 ninja, and ordered them to sabotage the town's castle gates, kill the guards, kill the governor/army, and set fire/blow up the buildings of importance. This plan succeeded, as he arrived, the people started to throw rocks at him. The nation leader of the opposing side was very shocked at the news of this, and started sending spies to the town to assassinate the clan leader, but the leader had already moved onto the next town of the snowy nation before they got there. The spies were assassinated, their heads decapitated, and sent to the leader of the nation to symbolize death for the Snowy Nation.
The nation leader was now infuriated, and sent 7 units of 78 Calvary to stop the clan leader's advance to the next town, but all were annihilated but 9 by the expert bowmen that served as guards in that town. The clan leader kept moving on, but this time to the last town, the capital. The clan leader's army consisted of 6 units of 49 bowmen, 7 units of 38 infantry, and 3 units of 57 ninja. The clan leader was accompanied by his wife, who had given birth 1 1/2 years before the war ended. The army had a very close victory, but at least the snowy nation was obliterated.
The clan leader and his wife returned with cuts and bruises. The clan had not welcomed his return, and the inner parts of the jungle clan revolted, this started the five-year-war. My parents, if you didn't already know, are the deceased leaders of the clan, leaving the throne up to me, only me.
I have to deal with this revolt, as much as I don't want to, I have to.
For the sake of the Nation...I...MUST.
The Beginning of the Five-Year-War
So here I am, on a peaceful treetop, overlooking the warring tribes as if they were ants fighting each other for territory - because they were. While the Capitol tried to fight off the relentless, never-ending, waves of enemies that came from almost every direction. Perched at the highest point of the semi-center of the city is a very tall watch/archer tower. This tower is the highest ranking in defense, as it effectively rains arrows down on enemies about 100 blocks away, but since most of the sides of the fortress are only 10 blocks away from surrounding vegetation, the tower had the least value of defense on these parts of the fortress because of the tree cover provided for enemies.
I come back to the city as soon as I see an enemy coming from the distance. The fastest way to get to the city was by parkouring on trees used by the Misty Ninja clan long ago. The scenery on the way to the city is breathtaking - it makes you want to sit down and enjoy it - but in the heat of the moment when you know that time is ticking for your citizens, you are determined to not lose this war. I jump from tree to tree with ease, until I get to the final jump, jumping into water that is 3 blocks deep, but with only 3 blocks clearance, which is a very big dare that challenges your will every time you jump into it. You absolutely MUST keep going at the same speed you are in order to make it OVER the city walls and INTO the water, or else you'll die.
I start sprinting towards the city walls, with no thought needed at all, after all, this is only routine for me. I am just barely there, when a monkey decides to take off a block of leaves needed to complete the runway for my arrival. I wince at the thought of dying, but I must keep going. I reach the end, and jump, I feel the forward push of inertia as I fall. I do not reach terminal velocity because the height of the tree does not exceed 90 meters. I skim the top of the city walls, measuring 75 meters and 4 meters across. My heart starts pounding against my chest. I fortunately land in a tank of water 2 blocks from the pool. I would've died had that merchant not bent his donkey down to drink and left that water tank out.
I yell to the guards "SHUT THE GATE, WE'VE GOT BLOOD ON OUR HANDS!", and the head garrison chief, Kyle, immediately relayed the message back to the gatekeeper, who was already closing the gates, but closed them with more urgency as he heard the message. I rally up the bowmen, artillery, horsemen, spearmen, and ninjas to their designated places, and discussed the strategy with them. We decided to do a simple ambush/defense procedure, whereas the ninjas would hide in the trees, the spearmen would hide in the dense brush, the horsemen would come out of the city if the archers had 30 casualties, and the artillery would have firing holes in the walls. At any time, the enemy could be close, so we wait until we have them in sight. We position the generals behind the second buildings away from the walls on all the sides. I see an eagle fly over the city, I then realize that the enemy comes closer. I see a second eagle, but this one has green dyed wings with orange stripes.
I whisper to the general to sound the horn as a bell tolls from the church, I whisper the same to the other 3 generals. I sound the bell. Now everyone knows that it will be a mass reinforcement issue. The generals sound their horns, now the troops hiding in ambush will send 1 of the 2 reporters that they have. The ninja reporter jumped onto the city walls, and showed his black and blue intricate emblem, then came down to report to me. The reporter said that they have heard the horn from about 100 blocks away, and saw the enemy army approaching from about 25 blocks away from there. I told the reporter to tell the spearmen after the spearmen reporter came back. The spearmen reporter said that they saw a hidden army under the trees that the ninjas had traveled on. I told him to go back and say when to attack. I told the ninja reporter to tell the other ninjas this news, also.
I hear a war horn from the distance. I yell to the garrisons "BE ON THE READY, THE ENEMY COULD ATTACK ANY MINUTE, NOW!", a few minutes after this, I see arrows being shot from the distance. I order the artillery to start firing over and through the walls. I order the additional garrisoned infantry to go into the forests and slay whatever might be out there. As I look at the archer tower, it seems as if they've caught sight of something and started firing at it. The citizens have now gotten themselves ready to fight for their lives if the enemy breaches the walls. I tell them to go hide in a trench located by the archer tower. I see something come flying at me, I dodge it with haste and find it to be a piece of the old stone tablet that had been broken off and stolen some while ago. I unsheathe my sword, as so as the other generals. I tell Kyle to open the gates. Once the gates were halfway open, I yelled "CHARGE, WE MUST WAIT NO LONGER!", this was responded with a rain of arrows on the central barracks. "CHARGE, MEN, AND WE SHALL BE VICTORIOUS!".
The Battle of Himatsaski
We charge with full speed, and the troops laying in ambush are summoned to charge with us. We meet with the enemy in no time at all. There is no time to deploy, because we are only 20 blocks from the enemy. We have the charge advantage, since we are on more of a slope than them. I raise my sword, then say "CHARGE!!", we quickly become outnumbered, but the ninjas start picking off people that looked like major threats, mostly the light armored ones (light armored infantry could be potential ninja, so it's necessary to get rid of as many as possible. They also carry valuable weapons and belongings around with them, so, in a sense, we're just looting their army for their valuables.) The heavily armored units had superior armor (their armor was the finest iron you could smelt and wear without having to exercise to carry it around. Also helpful in charge attacks) , so the only way the ninjas could get at them was aiming at their faces. I saw one of the ninjas jump from tree to tree, until he stopped and threw a shuriken at one person, after this, I saw the enemy's flag drop in the back. I left the army under my first-hand man, Mason, to control while I climbed a tree to go ask who the lone ninja killed.
They said that the lone ninja killed the enemy general who was in a palanquin. I start asking him if the general's bodyguard had found out yet, but I am interrupted by the general's first-man yelling "MY, HOW THE GODS HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR ANGER ON US TODAY!". At my amazement, I realized that the lone ninja HAD killed the enemy general! "Now, the enemy army should be fleeing", I thought to myself. But no, they kept on fighting on end. As enemy reinforcements started to flood a side of the battlefield, we started taking large casualties. Enemy ninjas started to surround us from all sides. I sounded the withdrawal horn as I saw this starting to happen.
I ordered the remaining ninjas to get to the temple of Himatsaski while I tried to get as many citizens out of the town as I could. Doing this was a very slow and enduring process. I tried to get as many citizens as I could out of the city, but was cut short when I saw a mysterious figure appeared in the distance and looked at me keenly, when I looked back, the citizens that had survived it to the entrance of the mountain passageway were dead. I looked back, not seeing anything in the midst of the jungle.
I wonder if this is good or bad, and if that someone or something was telling me that I should give up now. I rally with the other troops and citizens, but don't tell them of the mysterious figure I saw back there. When I got into the prayer chamber, I noticed a face emerging from one of the religious masks... Of one of my friends.
Wow. Smart kid to be able to get crowned king and be married t 13. I like the story, but adding more descriptive words, and less run-on sentences might help me picture it in my mind a bit better. Also, when you say "The story begins at his birth..." do you mean Alex's birth? Is the prologue just to sum-up the story? Who's being born?
Overall, I like the general gist of the story. keep it up!
I was born blind, but I've never had a problem seeing. I see through my bending.
People see me and think I'm weak. But I can take care of myself, by myself.

Yeah, I was on a brainstorm 3 months ago, so I just decided to post it now. However, thanks for the advice. I'm going to read your story now.
Edit: This story is based off of my real life, zoning-out world, and minecraft experiences, and my name is Alexander Shelly!
I hope this helped you figure out part of what I'm trying to get at in this story.

I still don't know who's being born yet though.
