Here's the fanfic I had in mind:
The Iron Minecrafter

This story is a Minecraft-ified adaptation to the original story of Mortal Kombat. Certain Elements are still in development, and the final version is yet to be determined.
Characters:
-- Protagonists --
Archibald McShane - The main hero of the story, Steve's successor. After experiencing his race's extinction by genocide, Arch relocated to New Karbonis, and taught to fend for himself by Steve. Steve's death at the hands of Herobrine, is the first phase of Arch's destiny.
Steve - The previous savior of New Karbonis, he cared for Arch, when he was a hatchling, and taught him to survive. He is killed by Herobrine, only to be avenged by his pupil.
ADA - An AI build from the same model found aboard the Jheuty from Zone of the Enders, she assists Arch in crafting. Built by Steve to guide Arch after his death, she's the only voice that keeps Arch learning.
Laurel - Herobrine's adopted daughter who betrays him, because she falls in love with Arch.
--Antagonists--
Herobrine - Elite Enderman, cursed into human form. He is the Emperor of the End, seeking conquest of the Mother Realm. (New Karbonis)
Vuljooral - Herobrine's pet Ender Dragon, and guardian of the Black Palace.
Kenko - Herobrine's hitman. Mercenary and thief, he will stop at nothing to end Arch's life.
Clunkoro - Herobrine's Iron Golem Prince with four arms. 2000 years old, he has remained undefeated for nine generations as the champion of the Tournament.
Plot:
500 years ago, one of Steve's ancestors, Mo Jong was beaten be Clunkoro in a legendary no-holds-barred Tournament in which only the most experienced warriors can compete. Herobrine then used this opportunity to corrupt the tournament to conform to his own goals. Herobrine's Gods want to invade the Mother Realm. To achieve this he is using the Iron Minecrafter Tournament to unbalance the furies which make reality possible. When New Karbonis is in chaos, Herobrine's gods can step through the dimensional gates and overtake it. To prevent this, Arch must enter the contest and win to preserve New Karbonis for another generation.

Temtesh - The world in which the tournament is held in.
The End - Where the latter part of the tournament is held.
Black Palace - Herobrine's Castle, where the final Iron Minecrafter battle is held.
