This is just a short story I made for school. Tweaked it a bit to put some minecraft into it.
For us, each day is our struggle with sin. Maybe Lust. Maybe Pride. Today, I will be telling you about one boy’s struggle with Envy. One talented, young, kind boy named Ethan. Sadly, he didn’t see himself as any of that.
We all know the story of The Spirit Whisperer and the 7. You don’t? I’ll tell you a summarized version. The Spirit Whisperer could talk to the seven spirits. Love, Faith, Hope, Charity, Justice, Fortitude and Temperance. His sister, Pandora, accidently released the seven souls of the wicked. So these sinful spirits, mixed with the virtuous spirits, spread all throughout the Universe. The seven sinful spirits: Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Pride, Sloth, Wrath, and Envy, watch our every move. That’s the story in a nutshell.
So back to the original story, Ethan was eating lunch with all of his classmates In a remote village in the Planes Biomes. The red stone lamp on the ceiling lit up the entire room. The red stone air con kept the room as cold as Santa’s Workshop. The room buzzed with noise and excitement. Ethan did not mind the noise, nor feel any excitement. He was eating his lunch alone. Though he looked formidable, his eyes said something else. His eyes were gleaming and damp. Forest green, his eyes were, and now, it looked as if this forest was ablaze. He felt terrible. He felt betrayed because of all the events that had taken place that day.
First of all, he went to P.E. He and his best friend, who goes by the name of Leonid, were on different teams. He stared in shock as his friend never passed, ran fast, and always shot the ball.
Secondly, when choosing teams, everybody chose Leonid, and Leonid, his supposed best friend, never picked him. Ethan was left standing alone. Sure, he respected opinion, but no one ever chose him for his or her team.
Last, but most definitely not the least, Leonid always left him, even when they were partners, to go to the other best friend. The two now avoided him. He had been kicked out of the triangle. Now. No one even partnered up with him.
Little did Ethan know of the Spirit Whisperer’s story. If he had, then he might’ve been more alert and more aware. Alert for his sin, the sin of Jealousy, offspring of whom? You guessed it. Envy watched from above, nodding his head. His hair was a tangle of snakes, hissing, whispering treachery in your ear. He had four, always watching, unblinking eyes, with snake eyelashes. Three snakes darted and dashed as tails of Envy. He was tall and thin. Though he was a monstrous spirit, he could be described as “devilishly handsome”. The rip in his chest signified that he was a sinful spirit.
“Yesssss….” Envy hissed. “What a perfect victim….” As he cackled, all of his snakes hissed along, so it sounded like there was a rainstorm. “Hiss eyess even matccch mine!” True enough, Envy was a glowing green spirit with a black body, and his eyes were green. Though Envy’s eyes were a harsher, toxic shade of green, Ethan’s were more melancholic. Envy lowered, closer to Ethan. As soon as his clawed feet touched the ground, the floor around him hummed and glowed with a ghastly green light. None even saw him (for sin is invisible until noticed) or acknowledged the sudden temperature drop….
All Ethan felt was a tingle where his heart was. Envy studied and stalked Ethan. All Ethan felt was a tingle where his heart was. Envy whispered words of lies and harm into Ethan’s ear. Poisoning his thoughts. Burying his true heart. He was doing all this in preparation for the Merge. All Ethan felt was a tingle where his heart was. The Merge was a stage where the sinful or virtuous spirit completely merges with the body and soul and heart of the Chosen one. They are each other. Perfect balance.
Ethan walked through the dim hall and past his shoe cabinet. His hand rested on the silver handle to his warm, comfy room. The handle was as cold as ice. He wanted to rip the door of its hinges. He couldn’t stop dwelling on every bad thing. Slowly, he pressed his hand down on the handle. As soon as Ethan entered his room, the door slammed shut with the sound of a gunshot. All the blinds closed. This, Ethan noticed. Though he noticed this, he didn’t look the slightest bit worried. Why you ask? You ask yourself. A sin is only noticed when you know you have it.
So Ethan just looked down and let his envy boil and burn inside of him like lava, as Envy swirled around him like a fierce tornado. His hair flew wild. His clothes flew around him like a wild aura. Until, Envy surged right into Ethan, right in the center of his chest. And there was a green ripple on his black coat, a fall, and silence….
After what seemed like millennia, or just five seconds, Ethan rose. He was Ethan, yet not Ethan. His pupils were green slits. He now wore shades on his for head, making it look like he had four eyes, just like Envy. His sideburns looked like snakes. There was a green, auric snake curling and spinning around Ethan. And all he wished now was what he wished before, except magnified by 100%. To get Leonid.
If before, the weather was cold because sin was there as a spirit, imagine the weather if sin and body became one! The sky was as black as death, and toxic green lightning crackled across the sky like a whip. The sky cried with bullets it called rain. The trees waved to and fro like a rather sick fellow. Leonid was walking home alone. He was shivering like crazy.
“Oh, I just had to take this route on this day on this time. I deserve better. A lot better.” He stopped bragging about himself because right then, he heard hissing. And he was nervous, so he started walking quickly. More hissing just made him go faster. More hissing just pushed him. There was more and more hissing, making him break off into a run. Of coarse, we all know what happens when one runs on a rainy day. So, as Leonid lay on the ground, praying there was no monster, a hand appeared, offering help.
“Ethan? Thank baked ribs with tomato and mashed potato you’re here! There was this hissing, scaring the bajabers out of me!”
“No problem.”
Leonid got up with the help of Ethan.
“Thanks again.” Leonid tried to pull his hand back, but Ethan resisted. Leonid tried again, but it failed. If anything, Ethan’s grip became tighter. Leonid pulled and yanked. He squirmed and started to panic. Finally, Ethan let go, but it was too late. Ethan finished his intention. There was green mist coiling into Leonid’s arm.
“What in the world is wrong with you?” Leonid complained. His fist sprung into action, and shot like a cannon to Ethan’s face. As it was right in front of his face, something stopped Leonid cold. His face screamed in agony, and every fiber of his muscles screeched and wriggled. Leonid fell to the ground, and the green mist, now clearly a snake, came slithering out Leonid. Ethan chuckled.
“You seriously think you could punch me? Boy, you couldn’t even if I was frozen and your fist was the rain coming from the heavens! In fact…” Ethan said, starting to walk around Leonid, trailing green smoke. “… you can do much more. And it will all be mine. All your skills, your looks, your personality, it will all be mine.” Leonid’s face morphed into a face of horror. It was all revealing itself. Ethan’s strange behavior, his looks, it was all making sense.
“Ethan, get Envy out of you, before it’s too late!”
“Oh, but it is. The spirit resides within me. There’s nothing you, silly boy, can do about it!” Ethan laughed and danced an ancient tribal dance around Leonid, trailing green mist everywhere. It started to twirl all around Leonid, spinning like a tornado, an unstoppable hurricane. It closed in. Closer. Closer. Closer. Until, the now obvious green constrictor coiled around Leonid. It squeezed every breath he took right out of his system. And the shades fell off Leonid’s unconscious.
Now in a story like this, you wouldn’t think shades would give any significance or difference. Yet, on the contrary they made all the difference. The shades covered his eyes, and his eyes were a gateway to his soul. So, as Ethan looked into Leonid’s semi – unconscious, deep royal blue eyes, he found himself falling. But he was falling up. He shot past clouds, and into far space. Into the stars and distant space. Then, as suddenly as he fell, he stopped. He was on a rocky, bedrock ground.
“Hello?” Ethan asked, feeling quite alone. “L – Leonid?” Ethan knelt on the ground, and, feeling hopeless, cried. He cried for being stupid. He cried for being foolish. And he cried for hurting his friend, who did nothing, whatsoever, to deserve this.
One, single purple teardrop feel on the ground, and the unbreakable, un – penetrable, solid bedrock ground, crumbled like a brittle cookie. And a glorious light broke through the ground. Ethan stared in shock and dismay. The glorious light shone all throughout the Universe. Before Ethan felt himself waking, he saw a strange deep royal blue starting to overthrow the light.
When Ethan woke, he found himself lying down on yet another rocky ground. He stood up on the road, and an excruciating pain struck his body. It was as if a giant sword was being pulled forcefully out of his chest. Ethan shouted. And that shout became a screech. And that screech became a hiss. And that hiss belonged to Envy. He emerged out of Ethan, like a butterfly out of a chrysalis. Envy shouted and looked in terror at his steaming form.
“NOOOOO! But I, I – AAARRRGGGHHH!” Envy screeched in pain, and Ethan saw what looked like violet wind whip around Envy. And time seemed to freeze. Ethan saw who he knew now to be Temperance. To describe him he looked like Envy, yet not much. Doesn’t make sense, huh? I figured. If only you were there to see him yourself. His body was a deep void violet, and glowed with white power. His eyelashes ended in cloud curls instead of snakes. His hair looked like fast moving clouds. He had a tail that split into three parts. His four eyes were kinder and more gentle, and looked like they held a lot of pain, kept and controlled. On his chest was a violet star, signifying that he was a virtuous spirit.
He winked at Ethan, and Ethan smiled back. Time played again, and Temperance turned back into violet flashes going around Envy. You know what happens when you shrink an image in a computer? All the pixels start squishing together. That’s what looked like what was happening to Envy. He was shrinking, growing ever smaller, and smaller, and smaller, until he was just a black orb glowing with toxic green light.
SSHHHHEEEEAAAAA!!!!! That tiny orb imploded into waves of translucent green and black energy.
Ethan looked around himself and realized Temperance was doing the same thing to him. Ethan silently prayed that he wouldn’t shrink. Gladly, this time, it was Temperance who was shrinking. He was an orb of violet webs, closing in on Ethan. Closer, closer, until it centered in his chest. And he could just make out three translucent green rips in his chest crossing and sealing to form a star. Ethan smiled. Then, he remembered Leonid.
“Oh my GOSH!!! Leonid, dude, are you okay? I’m so, so, so, so, so, so sorry!” Ethan ran to where Leonid was getting up.
“I forgive you. You didn’t know what you were doing. In fact, I should’ve told you that I really did feel alone, un – wanted, and you wouldn’t have gotten envious.”
“Nothing is your fault. It was all my bad.” Leonid put his arm around Ethan, as royal blue lightning shot across the sky. The royal blue that makes you think highly of yourself
“Strange. There’s still a storm, but Envy is not with me.” Leonid took his arm off Ethan, and Ethan saw a flash of royal blue in his eyes.
“You see, Ethan, two spirits resided in you…” said Leonid, walking around Ethan. “But you never considered a spirit resided in me….”Leonid said, as a royal black bodied, glowing blue proud lion appeared by his side. And the last thing Ethan saw was a flash of black, blue, red, then everything slipped away from his physical body.
