Alright - I've just had an epiphany. Most people seem to think that Minecraft takes place at the end of the world - that Steve?, the protagonist, is the last man standing. (Of course, there is no backstory. Minecraft doesn't take place before or after civilization, and leaves it to the player to believe what they want). This story feels depressing, and why play MC if you get those depressing thoughts? My theory (the way I choose to view the game's backstory, and pretend it started) is that Steve? is the first Homo sapien sapiens, and is the father of Civilization (Don't ask where the lady Steve?s are; there are no genders in Minecraft). This is why the terrain is barely touched, save for the few structures I'm going to explain. Actually, I'm going to break this wall of text up into sections to explain why things are the way they are:
Abandoned Mines, Zombies, Skeletons, and Strongholds:
If Steve? really is the first of us, what made the abandoned mines and strongholds, and what are the zombies and Skeletons? I'll start by explaining who made the strongholds and mines. The mines and strongholds were built by the zombies and skeletons (when they weren't zombies and skeletons - duh). What are the zombies and skeletons, then? The short-lived and now-extinct Cro-Magnons! They resemble us, and were almost as intelligent.
Villagers:
What are the villagers, then? They're Neandertals! Neandertals were very widespread at the time the first Homo sapien sapiens appeared, so this would make sense.
Endermen:
I believe that the Endermen are beings completely composed of Glucose and Carbon, which is why they are harmed by water, and give off the blackish-purple particles. The Endermen probably helped the Cro-Magnons build the strongholds (they definitely helped with the protals - this is why Nether Portals are three blocks tall).
This is my theory. I only explained a few major details, as I like leaving people to imagine the rest on their own. Also, I know this isn't the backstory for Minecraft. It doesn't take place at any time. Steve? isn't alone because he's the last - it's because he's the only. Mojang doesn't care to put a backstory to the game, so here's my own, if you feel as if playing with a backstory in mind. You may prefer to belive this, or the apocalyptic theories. Your choice.
ok nice story, i think it's a good idea to create stories about the origins of minecraft, I've seen a few before and they are always very creative.
I just don't understand one thing, if zombies and skeletons were Cro-magnons, how's it possible that villagers are neandertals? I mean, the neandertal is an ancient homo sapies species, not sure about the Cro-magnons though
but so far, nice story, do you intend to add more stuff?

I find this a little hard to believe.
The chicken's ancestor did not just simply pop out an egg, and out popped the chicken.
The problem is that, if Steve was the first homo sapien, then where are his other ancestors? Unless you're implying that he was separated, what was he born from? The Neanderthals?
I might be missing something from your passage. If that is truly the case, I apologize, and please put this little message aside. I find the whole theory to actually be pretty interesting and eye-opening. I think if you went into more detail, you could make this little passage less of an informative and more of a story.
It's a little bit beautiful to think about Minecraft as the beginning, rather than the end. Great job on this, keep in touch with your imagination!

Thanks for the compliments! Steve would have had to come from the Cro-Magnons.
