As I stared down off the cliff into the village, I heard weird noises behind me. I heard groaning, clanking, moaning, skittering, you name it. I had no idea what I was getting into.
"Uh Steve, you might want to hurry up" said Joe fearfully.
He was right. I jumped down and slid down the cliff face. I heard the others coming in after me. after I got down I ran into the village, not knowing what I would face. I looked around and thought it was abandoned. I walked in front of a large stone building that looked like a church. suddenly a door opened and I was pulled inside.
"SHH" said a voice "they'll hear you"
"Who" I asked.
then I saw his face. it looked like a regular human in some ways, but its head was extended a bit upwards, and bald. his most discerning feature was his big nose that hung over his mouth. he also wore some robes. he walked over to a window and looked out it, then back to me.
"Call your friends in" he ordered.
"Hey man. First I want to know who you are and where I-"
"Just trust me. Call them in or else we will have another funeral tonight"
that got me to go outside and call them in. As I walked out though, I was tackled. I pushed off my attacker as I hit the ground and saw something grotesque. I can only describe it as a zombie. it didn't have the rotting flesh, or exposed bones like the clichés. it just looked like an old and rotten body. it had some mold on it and it was very pale. it got up and started shuffling towards me. I scooted away and then Mike came in and punched it to the ground. the others came soon after that ordeal and saw it.
"ZOMBIES? REALLY?" said Cody.
"wait" said Mike, "that was a ZOMBIE?! I JUST TOUCHED A ZOMBIE?"
It got up again and then that weird local came out with a wood sword and decapitated the thing.
"Get inside all of you" ha said, "the siege is beginning"
"uh, siege?" asked Joe nervously.
We all got inside after that. Joe got a good look at the local and looked terrified.
"WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BE" said Joe
"JOE" yelled Jordan.
"its okay" said the local, "my kind are known as testificates. there are many of us in the world, and this is only one of our many villages."
"okay" said Sherry, "so the nuclear war made talking, intelligent mutants. good to know"
"don't insult them" I said to her, "So were you the humans that got left outside the bunker?"
"We are the descendants of them, yes" he replied, "You can call me Job. I am the local priest."
"Now they have religious beliefs? asked Sam, "Where are we?"
Job looked outside the window.
"they're hear"
I looked out side the window and saw something I could never un see. it was a horde of zombies that came running through the town. one seemed like the leader, mainly because it had a golden helmet on. WHAT? any way, I saw the leader target a lone house and they all went for it. they started banging and clawing at the door until it shattered into a million pieces. then I saw a poor testificate get dragged out and surrounded. from the sounds I heard, it sounded like they were sucking its blood and eating a few other things I don't want to describe. when it came up after all the zombies had their nourishment, it was a zombie also. I shuddered.
"holy crap" said Cody distraught.
"Can't you do something about this all" said Jordan, "Do you have any armed guards, or something?"
"We are in construction of them right now" said Job.
"construction?" asked Mike.
"Yes. One of the larger towns gave us enough materials and blueprints to build mechanized security guards known as iron golems."
Everyone in the room had a confused expression.
"I'll explain everything tomorrow. right now get some sleep. I don't have any beds prepared, so you'll have to sleep on the ground in the second floor."
Cody and Joe groaned but I thanked Job and climbed up the ladder. I found a nice spot in the corner and passed out.
The next day I was woken up by Job. he said we had to go and take a walk. As we went out, a lot of the other testificates stared at us. Job explained a lot of things to us.
"Ever since the great war, the world has healed. There are a few major differences though. Our race was created out of the war, and we quickly learned how to fight, craft, mine, and farm. if you all want to survive in this world, you will have to learn that too."
"Mikes got the crafting handled" said Cody.
"Me, Cody, and Joe can mine and all of us can fight" I said
"Me, Sam, and Sherry can farm" said Jordan.
"Wait what?" said Sherry.
"Its great that you are being a true team and dividing up the work" said Job, "But you all must learn everything. not one person can do one thing, you all have to do everything. that is the way of the world I am afraid. I have but one more question though. Who here is your leader?"
Everyone seemed to look at me so I raised my hand.
"Follow me" said Joe, "The rest of you, look around. see if you can pick up any useful skills"
He took me back to the church and inside. he moved away a piece of stone and it revealed a trap door. he opened it and motioned for me to go inside.
"Why?" I asked puzzled
"Because, under here is the secrets of our religion that I preach 2 times every week. I thought you might be interested."
I hoped down in there, thinking that I could trust Job. when I got down, I saw a table with a lone book on it. it was also a BIG book.
"Don't worry" said Job, "Its written in English"
I chuckled a bit, and opened it up.
HELLO, it is Mike talking now. as you all could probably tell, I am the sciency geek of the group, and I brought a lot of tools with me. I also brought a lot of sensors and one of them started going off in the middle of a farming lesson.
"Now" said the testificate villager, "to till the ground you take the hoe and make straight lines in the dirt. that way the dirt is all loosened up and-"
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
"What in the world is that" asked Sam annoyed.
"ANNOYING" yelled Joe.
"its nothing" I said as I grabbed the sensor, "It's just my-"
I pulled it out, and say it was an atomic reaction sensor.
"my-uh-atomic reaction sensor"
"what does that mean" asked Sherry worried.
"It means there is some sort of atomic implosion going on right now and we need to run"
Suddenly the ground started to rumble and I saw smoke and the distance. then it all stopped.
"PHEW" said Cody, "It must not have been that clo-"
SONIC BOOM. everyone fell over. Now back to Steve's studies
I read the book and I think I will explain it to you all now. It talks about how the world was created from fire by a group of gods known as The Watcher, The Ancient Entity, and Tamahate Alan. The Watcher watches over everyone to make sure they do right or wrong. The Ancient Entity controls time and space and always watches over the great clock of the world. Tamahate Alan betrayed the other gods for wealth and power, and now resides in another, dark realm. Then it gets into a list of the usual morals you see. Don't steel, don't commit adultery ETC. Then it gets into life after death. this part is kind of complicated so bear with me. they have the basic Idea of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory, they just had different names and a lot of different, as they call it, realms. If you lived a good moral life, you die and go to one of five realms depending on how good you are: the Dravite hills, Azurite forest, Uvite islands, Mythril mountains, and Augite depths, known all together as the twilight realms. Whichever one you go to, you have to go through various physical tasks to get to the true heaven, called the Aether. so basically depending on how good you are, that's how much of a head start you get to go to the Aether. Then they have one "Hell", which they call the Vethea. The Vethea has four layers, each based on how bad you are when you die. the highest being the worst, and the lowest being the "meh". Then they have two purgatories based on how bad you were in ranks lower then the lowest level of Vethea(sorry if you can not follow well). They call them the Nether and the End. The nether is for the ones that are the worst but less worse then the least worse in Vethea(HEAD ACHE) and the end is less worse then the nether. The nether is a fiery realm from the looks of it and the end is sort of just a lonely, dark and bleak place, sort of like limbo. Ironically the gods have a realm of their own, called the far lands. it is full of massive earthly deformities and a large castle in the center of it where the gods live. it is said that only the priests in death are able to see them, and you have to go through extensive moral tests in order to become a priest, so rarely does any one get to see a god. I finished reading the book when the big sonic boom Mike talked about hit me. the basement felt like it was going to cave in. Then it stopped.
"What was that?" I asked.
"One of the earth quakes that happen" said Job, "They are becoming more frequent and they are starting to last longer. Im starting to get worried".
"lets check it out"
We came up out of the cellar and went to the others. I saw in the distance that a house was obliterated and some trees in the forest were knocked over. I went over to Cody.
"What happened here?" I asked him.
"Mikes sensor thing went off and then I saw smoke in the distance and an earthquake and then a loud sonic boom"
I looked into the trees again.
"Maybe the source is in the forest. I'm gonna check it out"
"I'll come with you" said Jordan.
"me too" said Mike, "You'll need my sensor."
We set out to the forest. it was actually fairly close which was disturbing. we went over there and saw a GIANT hole, like an explosion went off. and I saw what looked like a lot of sparks going off in the air randomly. suddenly I saw some pebbles get sucked up into the sparks and disappear.
"OH NO" said Mike, "It looks like some sort of un stable dimensional rift. It is sucking up pretty much everything."
"What does that mean" asked Jordan
"It means the world is ending"
"WAIT WHAT" I yelled
"This nuclear war was so powerful that it no only changed the very fabric of the physical properties of the world, it opened up unstable rifts into other dimensions"
"Wait" I said, "is there a way to stop it?"
"Theoretically, if we can contain the various rifts long enough to close them, and I don't know how in the WORLD we will close them, but if we do, it will all stop"
"We'll figure out how" said Jordan, "I know it".
We went back and told Job what we found out. then I asked to speak with him privately.
"Look" I said, "I'm not trying to puke on your religious views or anything, but im just trying to speak practically."
"It's okay" said Job, "Im open to any suggestions"
"alright, here it goes. I think there might be a connection between these dimensional rift things, and the realms talked about in your religious views. what if these rifts are openings into those realms."
"I don't know if it is possible to enter the celestial realm outside of death"
Secretly I thought his religious views were a pile of melarchy. but I dont know if it would be smart to tell him that.
"Well I dont know what else this could be. and I wouldn't know where to start in closing them down."
"You cant start yet. you all are very ill prepared for things in this or any other realm. you need to learn to fight, mine, craft and farm."
"...Then what are we waiting for?"
