I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, but something odd seems to be happening in Minecraft.
It was a day that started like any other. Leave my home and head out for some mining and some exploration. However, when collecting wood near my home I noticed something... Strange.
The trees were refusing to grow in certain places. A straight line without any foliage at all. I turned and checked the other direction to find the same thing. I was right in the middle of a perfectly straight line devoid of life. It was a thin line, further exploration revealed that it was a mere 6 blocks wide.
I decided to follow the line for a while. Heading into a snowy biome, I heard thunder overhead, and the sound of rain pouring, despite the only precipitation being snow. It was strange, but I pressed on regardless. Before long my search led me to the sea, and something else directly before it. A single tree, directly in the middle of the line. I approached it, eager to discern its secrets, but before I did so, I marked the area with torches, so it would be easier to find in future. I did not know what mysteries it held, but something told me I would be interested in finding out what they were.
As I approached the tree, a deafening explosion rang out, and I thought I was done for. However, upon opening my eyes I found I was still alive. Hurt, but alive. I remembered I was on peaceful, the explosion could not be a creeper. The ground was undamaged by the blast, too... And that's when I realised.
I had been struck by lightning. I had approached the tree at the end of the line, and been hit by lightning. Could it be a warning not to delve into the bizarre mysteries about this strange happening? I didn't know, but I had always heard that lightning never strikes the same place twice. I decided to continue.
This time, I wandered in the opposite direction, and found myself in a densely packed jungle, apart from the convenient 6 block wide space travelling directly through it. Here I found strange happenings, as well as the usual trees with one side completely clean, there were vines hanging from leaves floating in mid air with no tree to support them.
Before long I found another tree in the centre of the line. This time, nothing happened. The old adage about lightning seems to have continued to ring true. This time. However, as I marked the end of the line once more, I noticed a cave, leading down into the belly of the world. This, I would explore later. Before then, however, I knew one thing must happen. An excavation must begin.
If people are interested I will continue to update this as time goes on.
Well, it is kinda a story, but at the same time, this is actually something that is happening in my game. I'm not making any of it up. It probably is just chunk errors, but it sounds somewhat dramatic, at least.
This is very interesting! Perhaps not just chunk errors but maybe a ravine was supposed to be there or is under the layer?

Nothing is impossible except for things being impossible. So, impossible is impossible, Basically I cannot say impossible, because its impossible. Then how did I just write it?
I'm not really sure why this was moved here since it doesn't appear to be Literature but if this is the setup for a Creepypasta or some form of horror story I applaud your dedication to writing. If not, then that is actually a really weird chunk error.
Feel free to leave your comments. Or criticisms, I suppose, if they're constructive. Almost anything really, unless it's an outright threat. In that case I'd prefer you put it in a private message.
The Farlands will rise again...
LOL
Great story, I had a similar occurance in my Superflat. Found a village... However, I am completely blank about whether its a chunk error or not... (I was using Radarbro to find villages, so yeah)
I want to know if this is a chunk error or not...

It's been 3 years, but I'm back, baby! Modpack shenanigans underway.
I don't play Minecraft nearly as much as I used to. 2019 is scary.
Here to provide any technical help I can!
Find me on Steam. I play Rimworld, EU4, Civ 5, and Left 4 Dead 2!
If you find my work helpful, feel free to leave a like.
I saw one of these too I started in a snow biome and there was a line of snow all the way down. However, the snow was also heading through a plains and mountain biome (up to a certain point) I forget what seed it was. I think it's Xmas or Christmas or Santa. Idk it was on Christmas
I've seen several of those. I had several theories as to what was going on, but none of them held up to much further thinking. So I'm just gonna call them a terrain-algorithm error.
But you may be onto something with the lightning connection. Had one of those running through a swamp I lived in a couple of server maps ago. I lived and worked underground, but one day I noticed that a recent lightning storm had set some fires on some trees. That refused to go out. Luckily they also refused to spread. Punching/hitting the fires out did not work. Breaking the burnign blocks did not work, flames were left burning in midair. Placing dirt blocks in the space of the fire itself finally extinguished the flames.
From that day on, that particular swamp biome was known on our server as The Fire Swamp.

It does appear to be a genuine chunk error. I will be continuing this, though. it just may take some time, as I have an exam resit in a week, and a few other things to prepare for.
Once I have the time, though, I will continue the exploration, i'm thinking I will dig the entire length of the line, until I come to something odd, or until I hit bedrock. I'm hoping I hit something interesting.
After playing a bit more, mostly to mine more resources to help with the big dig, I have found something else about the game. I don't have a load of screenshots about it, but I think this may be somewhat related.
It is, quite frankly, the most awesome glitch ever. It seems I have an unbreakable diamond pickaxe.
I've mined like 85 blocks of obsidian with it and it has no signs of wear and tear at all. I wish I had some evidence of it, but I guess when I am screenshotting more of the story, i'll be sure to let you all know if it's the same diamond pick. If this is linked to the trees somehow, then it is the most amazing error I have ever experienced.
If you create a new world, and then imidiatley after creation exit the world then re-enter it this will happen.
Strange, I got struck by lightning too in a smimilar situation.
