Chapter 1: Purple Ore
Kenton yawned loudly and scratched his back. He glanced at the golden clock positioned on the spruce wood wall across from his bed. It was seven o'clock. He quickly dressed and trudged out of his dim room. "Hey guys," Kenton greeted his four friends. They were sitting at the kitchen table chowing down on fresh bread. "Why did you wake up so late?" asked Seamore, the one sitting in the back. "I don't know," Kenton answered. He grabbed himself a juicy apple and sat down next to his best friend, Phileus. "We've got a big day today," said Deamus. "We've got to head down to the mines and get us some diamonds that I discovered yesterday!" Reebus exclaimed. He thought he was the best miner in the land. Kenton took the last bite of his apple. "Let's go then!" he cheered. The five of them gave loud hoots and gathered their tools. "Lead the way, Reebus."
~~~~
The mines were dark and terrifying, but the flaming torches on the wall made them feel safer. Reebus led the others down a cobblestone stairway, clutching his iron pickaxe like it was his own heart. They travelled for what felt like hours. "We're almost there!" Reebus cheered and quickened his pace. They came across a wooden bridge that went across a deep underground ravine. Lava covered the floor below. "Stop!" Phileus ordered. The party halted halfway across. "Do you hear that?" "Skeleton!" Kenton shouted as the monster came into view. "I got this!" Deamus exclaimed. He let loose a sharp arrow. It dug itself into the skeleton's bones. He finished it off with a heavy kick to the chest. After a painful screech, the monster plummeted into the scorching lava. The five miners continued through the mines. They went another hour without spotting any more monsters. "Are we there yet?" Seamore whined. "As a matter of fact, we are," Reebus announced. They turned one last corner. Across a huge pit of lava was a group of diamond ores, ten to be precise. "Anyone have any blocks so we can cross?" Phileus asked. "I do," Kenton answered. He walked up to the lava. Carefully, he placed cobblestone in a bridge across the burning liquid. Reebus approached the valuable material and began mining. After he collected all ten, he divided them and gave two to each of his friends. He kept two for himself. "Maybe there's more close by!" Deamus suggested. "Maybe we should go back to the surface before we get killed and lose all these diamonds," Phileus countered. "A little more mining can't hurt," Seamore shrugged. They all agreed to keep mining. Reebus mined out a two by two tunnel behind where the diamonds were. After half a minute, he discovered a new ore. "Guys, have we ever found a purple ore?" Reebus asked his companions. "I don't think anyone has!" Deamus cheered. "I want it! Give it to me!" "Calm down, Deamus!" Kenton shouted. Deamus gets a little crazy when it comes to things. "You're telling me to calm down?" Deamus challenged. He shoved Kenton to the stone floor. "I-I-I didn't," Kenton stuttered. He was terrified that his friend would kill him. Deamus came closer and closer, but stopped. "Just mine the ore, Reebus!" he grunted. Kenton was flooded with relief. Reebus tried to mine it, but couldn't. "We need a better pickaxe!" Reebus complained. "I'll give you a diamond to make it," Phileus offered. "Thank you," Reebus said. He took a diamond from Phileus and got to work. He constructed a workbench and combined the three diamonds with two sticks. "Now let's see what this magnificent ore is!" Seamus exclaimed. Reebus clutched his new diamond pick and slowly walked to the purple ore. He took a deep breath and slammed the tool into the ore. BOOM! A large explosion shook the mine. The five miners flew to the ground.
Chapter 2: A Secret Passage
"What the hell was that?" Seamore shouted. He got to his feet with a struggle. Kenton and Phileus pulled themselves up. They went over to Reebus. "Are you alright, Reebus?" Kenton asked in a caring voice.
"Ugh!" Reebus groaned. "My head!" Kenton and Phileus lifted him to his feet.
"What about Deamus?" Seamore asked. Deamus was still on the ground.
"He can stay where he is," Kenton said.
"Heard that," Deamus grumbled. Luckily, everyone had survived the explosion.
"What was that ore?" Phileus questioned.
"Nobody's ever seen it before," Kenton shrugged.
"Look, a passage!" Reebus noticed. Behind where the unique ore was, there was a stone pathway. "Let's check it out."
"I'll go first," Deamus offered bravely.
"Yes, now when the monsters spot us in there, you'll be the first to go!" Kenton cheered.
"Shut up before I knock you out!" Deamus challenged.
"Hey, I thought we were all friends here!" Phileus interfered. Deamus grunted and started down the passage. Seamore and Reebus followed. Kenton and Phileus were in back. "Why do you two always have to fight?" Phileus asked.
"He used to be my best friend, but now he's getting on my nerves!" Kenton answered.
~~~~
The passage took the five of them to a large, cobblestone chamber. "Look at all those mobs!" Seamore gasped.
"I count 25 zombies, 12 skeletons, 8 spiders, and 5 creepers," Reebus surveyed.
"Let's get them, guys!" Deamus ordered. He jumped down into the pit. Instantly, the mobs turned and charged at him. Deamus fired rapid arrows. Kenton hated him, but had to admit, that he was the best archer in the group.
Skeletons fired back. Deamus dodged them easily and returned to taking out monsters. The others joined him and pulled out their swords. Kenton cut off a zombie's head, maneuvered a spin move and slashed a spider in the eyes.
So far, the miners were winning. Suddenly, four Spider Jockeys scurried into the room. "We got Jockeys by the exit!" Kenton warned as he slayed a hissing creeper.
"I got this!" Seamore called and crept over to the right wall. He shimmied over to the distracted Jockeys and placed a block of TNT. Next, he lit it with flint and steel and ran. "Take cover!" he bellowed and dove to the floor. After 3 seconds, the TNT exploded.
"We did it!" Phileus cheered as he noticed that all the monsters died in the explosion.
"Oh no, Reebus is hurt!" Kenton yelled. He rushed over to his bleeding friend. There was an arrow in his left shoulder.
"Ah, he got me good!" he choked.
"Stupid skeletons!" Deamus grunted.
"It wasn't a skeleton!" he shook his head.
"Then, what was it?" Kenton interrogated.
"It was, it was-" he winced as the wound continued to hurt.
"Come on, Reebus, tell us!" Deamus yelled, but Reebus didn't hear him. His eyes closed and his breath stopped.
"No!" Phileus cried. "He's dead!" The miners broke into tears and fell to the floor with grief. Kenton wasn't going to give up yet.
"We need to go after whatever killed Reebus!" he announced. "If it wasn't a skeleton, it must be something we don't know about and we have to find out!"
"We can't leave him here!" Phileus disagreed.
"Fine," Seamore said. "You stay here with him and make sure nothing comes after us." Phileus nodded and picked his iron sword off the floor.
"Come on, let's go!" said Deamus. Seamore and Kenton followed him out of the chamber.
Chapter 3: In Pursuit
Deamus charged across an obsidian bridge that hung over a bottomless pit. Kenton and Seamore were right behind him. Someone in a white cloak was already across. He threw two eggs onto the ground and two creepers instantly spawned on the bridge. "Look out!" Seamore warned.
Deamus plunged his sword into one of the creepers, kicked it off the bridge, and cut the second one. They continued down a tunnel. The cloaked figure was getting farther away.
The three humans ran down a flight of mossy stairs. From a second pathway to the right, a spider leapt out of the darkness and pinned Deamus against a wall. Seamore was right there, cutting the creature's legs off.
"You're welcome," Seamore mumbled as Deamus continued after the assassin.
~~~~
The man in the cloak exited the tunnel. He arrived in a gigantic area with a strange, blue portal. Monsters were everywhere. "Get ready, three miners are on their way here!" he howled. The monsters growled and got together in a large formation.
~~~~
Deamus sped across the floor, intent on ending the assassin's life. Seamore was a few steps behind him. Kenton was ten seconds behind them, huffing. He hadn't run like this in his life!
They slid into the room, the angry beasts ready to kill them. "We got company!" Seamore exclaimed. Zombies and Creepers stampeded as Skeletons fired volleys of arrows. Deamus backed up to the wall and fired arrows back at the skeletons as Seamore and Kenton battled the other monsters.
By the portal, the unknown killer watched intently. He was only a few steps from the portal, so if anyone of the miners tried to attack him, he could easily escape.
"Keep fighting!" Kenton urged. He cut off a zombie's head and dodged a skeleton's arrow. Deamus was making progress, knocking out a whole squad of creepers with his archery skills. Seamore was left with no one to fight, so he took the opportunity and charged at the man in the white cloak.
He knew it was coming and stepped into the portal. He disappeared and the portal went with it. "No!" Seamore cursed. He turned and cut off an attacking zombie.
"There's too many of them!" Deamus yelled. "Kenton, find an easier way to kill them!" Kenton knew exactly what to do. He ran at a hissing creeper. Just before it exploded, he kicked it into a group of skeletons. BOOM! The creeper exploded. All six of the skeletons went down with it.
Now that the archers were taken care of, the miners easily defeated the rest of the monsters. "Where'd the portal go?" Deamus shouted in anger.
"That white-cloaked guy went through it and now it's gone," Seamore explained.
"What do we do now?" Kenton asked.
"Get Phileus," Seamore said. "He's the smart one. He'll know what to do."
I'm done with Chapters 3 I only have one comment. Come on, guys. Don't be shy!
