Some say in this mysterious city that anything can happen, may it be a sudden ghost sighting, or a murder along the bank of the river, that flows gracefully through the town. This place is mysterious, but beautiful, with the sun shining on the keep to the east and the amazing forest to the west. The sounds of wood chopping and constant laughter came from the distance, and the streets filled with people rushing to the stalls to get some great deals, may it be food or weaponry.
One man in particular stood out beyond all the rest, he was Xavier. A tall but medium built man in his forties. His left eye made everyone's eyes shift and glare at Xavier. His eye had a bright red glow to it, much like a worshiper of Deada. Xavier knew it wasn't because of that though, a few years ago a strange and memorable event happened where Xavier and a few of his lifelong friends where in a battle with one of the worshipers. Sadly it didn't go to plan. Xavier was hit by a devastating spell that caused him to shriek in agony. He had turned and started hitting anything that tried to get near him, even his friends. Xavier knew that everyone was staring at him, he was able to block it out and constantly had to tell people about the incident, which half of who he told just huffed and walked away like he was some sort of bluffer. One family knew that he was telling the truth, Aralia and her blacksmith father Harold where good friends to Xavier and always had been since he moved to Braehead from Altera.
Xavier had been given a letter from a small boy, a courier by the looks of him, it was from Harold. It was a small scroll with a red label around the side. Fancy Xavier thought to himself. The letter read "Dear Xavier, could you please come to my shop sometime this afternoon? I need to talk to you. Harold the blacksmith" and so later that afternoon he'd grabbed all he needed and head down the long road to the shop.
The shop wasn't the biggest of buildings, it had an upper floor to it but that hadn't been used in years, the sign on the shop swayed from side to side as if two boys where pushing it back and forth like a game. That happened a few times before but they were scared of Harold, his big build and hairy chest made him look like a wild animal talking English. As he entered the shop Harold was behind the counter, some old crone left carrying a sharp tooth like dagger, she gave Xavier a nasty look and huffed as she left. "Don’t mind her" Shouted Harold "She's mad, I swear she said she was out to get you" A big laugh raised from Harold’s' voice, and then slowly calmed as Xavier walked closer. "I got your letter, what do you need?" asked Xavier, he was quiet and his face loomed after the old crone had stared at him. "I need to you go pick up some supplies, today's been busy and Aralia isn't strong enough to pick them up, watch out though, I still don't trust that crone" Said Harold in a worried voice. Xavier looked over Harold’s shoulder and saw Aralia reading a small book, she looked up and a big smile appeared on her face, Jumping up she runs to Xavier opening her arms "Xavier! It's good to see you again" Shouted Aralia jumping into Xavier’s arms! "It's nice to see you again too Aralia" Said Xavier, His gloomy face disappears and a nice smile stares down at Aralia. "So what do you need Harold?" Said Xavier putting Aralia down" Harold bent down and grabbed a little scroll and handed it to Xavier along with a small sword. "It's all on the checklist, it shouldn't take you long but be sure to watch yourself" Said Harold. Xavier nodded and gave a small wave to Aralia, now back reading her book, and left the shop out the side door.
It didn't take him long to find the first item on the list, it was a small crate of metal hooks down by the Docks, he hoisted it up and clipped it to a small hook on the his back then began to walk quickly back to the shop. On the way he felt a small tingle on his back, like someone was watching him, not a normal watch, it was a stare, watching his every move. Before he could react a large scream came from a small alley to his right, he knew what he was looking at, Staring back at him was the crone, but now she had bright red glowing eyes. Xavier blinked and, without any warning, she'd gone. Xavier looked around to make sure it wasn't a distraction and to make sure nobody was going to get him from behind. Nothing. He slowly and cautiously walked back to Harold’s shop and set down the crate. "What’s the matter with you? You look like you'd just seen a ghost" Said Harold laughing. Xavier's expression never changed "Come on, you should have a lie down" Said Harold leading him to the small room behind the counter. Lying down, Xavier thought to himself, was he going insane, was this a sign? Was the cult back? Xavier thought about it all night but what does it all mean? What will happen next?
The End
