Yes, yes, you've all heard of me, the legendary sc1020. I wrote a great fanfiction series and such. But sometimes writing one isn't enough. So, what's better than one fan fiction? Two fanfictions, of course! Presenting...

Between Games
So, you may be wondering why this story is not found on Minefic yet. The reason behind it is that I don't feel I should throw every piece of literature I make onto there. I believe Minefic is for popular fanfics that will likely last for a long time. This story, meanwhile, doesn't even have scheduled chapters since I'm busy with Shadows of Reality. So even though many of you give my story at least an 8, this story won't be found on Minefic.
Length:The story is likely to be one of my longest ones yet, reaching an estimated goal of 49 chapters and seven books. 100 chapters, like my good friend Newbek tried to do, is just too hard. However, most of my stories have reached a good twenty. Those were in a series, so it might really reach almost 75 chapters.
So far, 2 chapters have been released.
Throughout the story, you will notice a cryptogram at the end of each chapter. However, there are some things you need to know:
The first line in every cryptogram is your hint. It doesn't need to be decoded.
The cryptic messages are in all caps, so don't mistake a capital "I" for a lowercase "L" when there is no lowercase L.
Do not post on the thread what type of code is used or what any cryptograms say when decoded. You're just ruining it.
Punctuation should not be translated.

The Miracle
Time: Friday, May 13th, 2005
Place: New England Academy of Technology (N.E.A.T)
"Are we ready to go?"
"Yes. If this works correctly, we'll be able to program any game in existence onto a computer. All wireless, too. Just the push of a button."
"It seems like just yesterday the Internet was born. Now look at what we're doing! We'll be rich with the money we make off of this software."
"All right. Let's test it out. The game was The Legend of Zelda, am I correct?"
One of the technicians pushed a button and on the computer's monitor appeared an icon. It was the Hylian shield from one of the games. The technician moved the mouse and clicked the icon. A new window popped up that read "N.E.A.T Downloadable Software" at the top.
Using the WASD controls and a few pre-set keys, the technician played the game all the way through the first dungeon.
"We did it! The N.E.A.T's computer Network is stable!"
"No it's not. Turn it off! It's overheating! Turn it off! Turn it off!"
Another technician hurriedly pushed a few buttons and the monitor turned off and the computer did the same. Even though it was off, the light on it was unnaturally blinking. It would normally stay a solid color when on and the light would be off when the computer was off.
"What's that light doing? Why is it like that?"
The top of the computer burst into flames. One person was luckily walking in right after this happened. One of the leading technologists took the water bottle and tried to empty its contents onto the flaming computer.
"What're you doing? You're going to destroy the whole system! If the system doesn't get destroyed, something worse could happen."
"No! You're always focused on the money! I'm shutting this thing off now!"
He spilled the contents of the water bottle and the flames were extinguished. Suddenly, the light started blinking faster. The monitor was turning on with a green background. A black face was etched onto it. Little did they know, this face was the same one used in a popular game that would be released about five years later.
The monitor began to speak in a male, electronic voice. There was no tone, but it scared the death out of most of the people in the room.
"Thank you for giving me new life," the computer said, "I am Maldur, your new friend. I am the N.E.A.T computer system you just used, but alive. How would you like to play a game?"
"What's going on? I can't turn the computer off! The circuits have been fried! How is it still on?"
"Just go with it," the man who extinguished the computer earlier said, "I'd like to play The Legend of Zelda."
"Then you shall," Maldur said.
There was a white flash and the man who was standing there before had disappeared. On the second monitor, The Legend of Zelda opened up on the screen. Someone tried moving the mouse, but the cursor didn't budge.
"What's going on? Am I the cursor?" A voice from the monitor said. It was the same person who disappeared speaking now. The cursor began to move. It clicked on the icon to begin the game. The man spoke again as Link appeared in the game.
"I'm Link! This is amazing! You were right! We can make so much money off of this system now!"
"I never should've given you that chance," Maldur said, "You people still want to use me for your own self-gain. I just want the enjoyment of others. But clearly, no one wants it."
The facility began to crumble. The security cameras suddenly stopped working. The light dimmed as much of the ceiling began to fall down. All of the scientists inside were killed. John DiAngelo, the man who had become Link, somehow survived.
When the ruins were examined, they found that the computer in which Maldur was contained remained unharmed.
He told me he would send me a package three letters back. I still haven't recieved it.

Perspective: Will
The doorbell rang and for the first time in hours, I looked up from what I was tinkering with. I looked out the window of my room to see that the mail truck had arrived.
"I got it!" my sister, Carol, yelled down the stairs as I was opening the door to my room. Even as she was walking down the stairs, she was still texting. How she did it, I didn't know.
When I went back into my room, I noticed a small metal thing flying around. It was my mechanical bat, Gizmo. He was solar powered, so I normally let him charge while I was working on other machines.
Gizmo recognized my face with the scanner I programmed him with. He flew onto my shoulder and I began to work on my latest invention again. I was working on making a touch-sensitive holographic projector. So far, even the projector part wasn't working yet. Today just wasn't my day.
"It's your stupid package, Will!" Carol yelled upstairs. I heard her ringtone, so there was no use replying. I opened my door and walked downstairs. The package was small, but then I realized what it was.
This package contained one of the parts I was going to use to be able to program even video games onto the projector. This was the N.E.A.T Downloader, a miracle of science back in 2005. But then the facility collapsed. A few of the survivors managed to make some new N.E.A.T Downloaders, but they weren't the exact same.
Carol was talking to one of her friends about another friend's boyfriend, Keith. I hardly payed attention to her conversations anymore. When I attached in the N.E.A.T Downloader to my computer, something strange happened. Something on Gizmo's back sparked for a second.
I quickly splashed some water on it before anything could start burning. I picked up gizmo and looked at his back. I remembered that some of the chips inside of him were also from N.E.A.T.
I should've taken it as an omen, but I kept working anyway. I tested out the N.E.A.T Downloader with the game Minecraft. Sure enough, I pressed the Enter key and the data instantly went from the computer I was using to Carol's laptop.
I quickly transferred it back over to my computer so she wouldn't know I messed with her computer. But when the data arrived onto my computer, a window popped up.
ERROR:
Harmful data has been transferred to your computer. Now activating antivirus software...
The antivirus didn't turn on, even after ten minutes. Then a message popped up saying that something had deleted the antivirus. The screen suddenly turned green. Then a creeper's face popped up onto the background. How this didn't happen to Carol's computer, I didn't know.
"Hello, Will," the creeper said in a dull, electronic voice, "Would you like to play a game?"
"Well," I said, "I was trying to start up Minecraft until you started a virus and busted up my computer."
"Starting up…" the creeper said, "While you wait, allow me to introduce myself. I am Maldur, the N.E.A.T Artificial Intelligence. I was created by John DiAngelo. Such a shame he's lost in coding."
"Wait, what?!" I yelled, but it was too late. There was a white flash and I found myself on a beach.

Some zombies burned in the distance, so I kept my distance. I collected some sand and drank a bit from the ocean. Luckily, there was no salt water in Minecraft. So this was safe to drink. Maldur's voice spoke again.
"Welcome to Minecraft," Maldur said, "Your session ends in nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, nine minu-"
Suddenly his voice stopped. I was stuck in Minecraft now. If Carol could unplug the N.E.A.T Downloader, she could get me out of here. But he was too busy talking to her friends of how jealous she was that Layla was dating Keith or something like that. Like I said, I never bothered to truly listen.
And so, my adventure began.

Perspective: Carol
When Carol walked back into her room, she noticed that her laptop wasn't plugged into her charger where she left it.
"I'll call you back, Tiff," Carol said, hanging up the phone. She practically tore apart her room looking for it, but she couldn't find it. The something flew into her room. It was that pesky bat of Will's, Gizmo.
Then she realized what had happened. Will had used her laptop. Carol stormed into Will's room and was about to yell at him when she found the room empty. She looked around to make sure.
Carol found her laptop on a desk in one of the back corners of the room. She took a glance at Will's computer and noticed that it was still on with a game unpaused. It looked to be Minecraft, that nerdy building game Will played sometimes.
But then she saw that Will was inside of it. Carol was about to faint at the fact that her brother was now trapped in a computer program.
"Hello," a voice from the computer said, "Would you like to play a game?"
"How about getting my brother out of there?" Carol said back to the computer.
"Teen Spy is now starting up. Please wait."
"Hey! That game's from my computer! How is it on here? How are you doing this?"
There was a bright flash and Carol found herself as Rachel Carter, the protagonist of Teen Spy. Will would have to wait.
She never actually beat this game on her laptop, so she had no idea how to beat the game.

I noticed some sheep grazing a few minutes later. Most of the hostiles were dead right now, so I was in the clear. I quietly walked up to a bone that a skeleton dropped after it burned. I looked around the woods for a wolf.
I fed it the bone and it jumped onto me like it had known me all of its life. I never managed to get a dog. My parents said I couldn't handle it. So I went into my room and began working on a robotic pet.
"Okay, boy," I said, patting the dog's head, "Go get me some wool from the sheep."
The dog bounded and started murdering sheep like crazy. If this wasn't Minecraft, it would be a gory mess over there. He brought be back five blocks of wool. He apparently hunted a few pigs, because he ran back over and came back with some pork chops in his mouth.
"I think I'll name you Ben," I said to Ben, "You can keep some of the pork."
Well, the dog had to eat.

Place: The Creeper King's Palace in Minecraft
Perspective: ???
A teenager of about sixteen approached the moat of the giant bedrock castle. He was dressed in dark clothing and had red eyes. This castle belonged to the Creeper King, the only source of rubies in Minecraft. If one were to do his bidding, they could become rich.
The teenager approached the guard and showed him the Creeper Medal. The guard stepped aside. He walked over to the lava river. There was no way across unless the Creeper King raised the bridge unless you could swim through lava.
He was prepared. He chugged down a fire resistance potion and dived headfirst into the river. He swam across and came out unscathed. He climbed up the short ridge that led up to the castle.
He strolled in and nodded at yet another guard. The teenager approached the throne room of the Creeper King. The throne was constructed out of gold and ruby blocks. The creeper king was clothed in his black-and-red militia gear with the lightning bolt designs on the side of the hood. A gold crown with small ruby gems on the sides lay on his head.
"Did you do it, Nemesissss?" the Creeper King asked, "Did you give that Will boy the possessed dog?"
"Of course," the teenager replied, "Now I believe the reward was 10 rubies."
"Ah yes," the Creeper King replied. He clapped his hands and a servants rushed over with a leather sack filled with the correct amount. The Creeper KIng walked over and handed it to the teenager.
"Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that Nemesis is dead," the teenager said. Right after, the teenager did something that looked like he was ripping off his head. Suddenly, the teenager transformed into a face that hadn't been seen for almost eight years. In his hand was a white mask. This was John DiAngelo.
"You stole the Magic Mask?" the Creeper King asked.
"The jig's up, Maldur," John said, "Free everyone you've trapped inside the video games or I do it for you. The choice is yours."
John pulled out a workbench and quickly made himself a ruby scythe. Maldur had already hacked himself a diamond sword. Who knew what it was enchanted with?
"You let them go right now," John said, "Or I enchant this with my antivirus uplink. One hit from this could kill you."
"Or," Maldur said, "It could kill you."
Maldur took the antivirus uplink and jabbed it into John. He disappeared in a flurry of pixels.
Julius Caesar came into town. I thought that guy was dead.

Place: An abandoned warehouse in Colorado
Perspective: Carol
Ok, I'm just skipping to after the training. The training just taught me how to jump and duck and roll and all that good stuff. Of course, I don't need to learn how to do that stuff. Just in real life, I would need to know what keys to use.
I had received two gadgets. One was a makeup mirror that could deflect anything. Very useful if I had to deal with anyone who was arm. I also received a knife that I was informed had many other uses. My phone was also upgraded so I could contact anyone as long as I took a picture of them.
The whole storyline for Rachel Carter starts off with a foreigner from Germany who moved to America. He claimed he descended from Hitler, though his records said otherwise. Now he has some crazy plot to take over America, even though that wasn't even Hitler's plan.
He and his group of scientists started creating weird chemicals that could kill people instantly when turned into a gas. His plan is to use it to wipe out anyone who stands in his way.
That's where Rachel comes in. The CIA had apparently watching her for some time by the modern point. One day she was dragged into this warehouse by some CIA agents. Weird stuff, huh?
Then the crazy part happened. The game paused itself. Everybody stopped moving and the world was still. I couldn't even move a muscle myself. Even a dripping drop of water was frozen in midair. A voice that I could swear I heard before began speaking.
"This is too easy for you," the voice said, "I'll make it harder. I'll send you to another game. DragonFable should do you nicely. A few gadgets won't help you in a world of magic."
There was another bright flash, and I found myself on a mountain.

Place: Casa de Will, a house in Minecraft
Perspective: Will
After a day or so, I had established a pretty good three-story house. Ben even had a tiny doghouse outside, so he was fine. It was very lonely, however. On this day, I was planning on looking for a village.
However, something very different happened. I woke up abruptly because of a sound that sounded like a meteor hit. I looked outside to see two people inside a smoking crater outside of my house. One boy and one girl.
The boy shot a large energy beam at my house, unaware where he was. It broke one of the windows on the second floor.
"Quote, be subtle," the girl said, "You can't just blast a hole through a wall when you enter another world. You might get attacked in return."
The boy, whose name was apparently Quote, nodded. I climbed down the stairs and walked outside to where the two robots where.
"Who are you two?" I asked.
"I'm Curly Brace," the girl said, "and this is Quote. He doesn't talk. I haven't been able to find out why."
The boy nodded as if trying to indicate that what Curly said was true.
"So, where exactly is this place? Why is everything square and more importantly, why aren't you?" Curly asked.
"Let me start with my name," I said, "My name is Will MacGrath. I got sucked into this crazy computer world by a virus on my computer. We're in Minecraft, the popular video game that involves building using the mechanics of blocks. I'm not square because I'm not from here."
"What's a video game?" Curly asked. I finally realized where these two were from. They were from Cave Story. I was still stuck on the secret level of the game, but I recognized the names Quote and Curly Brace.
These two were from the path of the game where Quote gets the Spur instead of the Machine Gun and restores Curly's memory. This also meant that Quote had completed the secret level or both Curly and Quote were sucked into this world right before the boss. Since Quote's hat was red, he hadn't obtained the Prinny Cap.
"It's a long story," I said, "Anyway, how did you two get here? Have you two escaped the Seal Chamber with Balrog yet?"
"Yeah we escaped with him when a portal op-" Curly said, abruptly realizing something, "How do you know that happened?"
"Listen, there's a strange way I can kind of relive your adventures," I said, "You guys really won't understand."
"Okay, I'll believe you," Curly said, "But this whole thing sounds crazy to me."
"It is," I said, "And it may be getting worse."

Place: A forest in the game Chronicles of Alyssia
Perspective: John
Maldur was getting more and more powerful. He managed to swipe that uplink away faster than I thought possible. I suddenly found myself in the game Chronicles of Alyssia. I was somewhere in one of the forests. I noticed someone rush by the trees.
He was in a white shirt with a black jacket. He had red pants on, also. We were right on the edge of the forest, as I could faintly see a village through the trees. The man was heading for it. This was Torrent Messorem, one of the ten characters you could choose from.
One of the other characters was with him, though I couldn't recognize who. Whatever Torrent was doing, it had to do with that village. I noticed a few other people coming through the trees, looking very angry.
Suddenly, four guards burst into the area. They were looking for Torrent, who had looked back at that moment and noticed me in trouble. Suddenly, his shadow began to bend and twist and became a black scythe with a red handle. He rushed over to aid me in the fight.
Luckily, I still had the ruby scythe from my fight with Maldur. All four guards were armed with swords, so this was going to be harder than I thought. Both me and Torrent were armed with scythes, so this was going to be difficult.
Quickly jumping over one guard, Torrent jabbed his scythe into the back of the guard, making a huge hole in the guard's chest plate. One swung down his sword, but I he'd up my scythe in an awkward block.
With my other hand, I grabbed the sword from the guard and kicked him back and spun to face another guard. We got engaged in a duel, where eventually, I knocked the sword way out of his hand. He began to beg for mercy. Meanwhile, I noticed that Torrent had already dealt with his guard and the fourth one.
"You gotta be careful out there," Torrent said, "You never know what could happen."
As if on purpose, a portal to another game opened up and swallowed a tree near us. We were caught in the vacuum of air that was sucking things into another game world.
"What's happening?" Torrent asked.
"We're being transported to another world," I said, "I won't be able to tell where we're going until we're already there. We're caught in the vacuum of air and there's no way out."
"Then we'll jump in. It's our only hope of getting back," Torrent said.
"Let's do it," I said. Together, we jumped into the strange blue vortex that would take us to another game world. I just had no idea where we were going.
Ancient Relics are guiding principles.

Did you know...
...my main inspiration for this story was the book Heir Apparent?
...John's last name was DiAngelo because Nico was my favorite character from the Percy Jackson series?
...the idea for Teen Spy wasn't from Spy Kids? It's actually from the Alex Rider series.
...Gravity Falls gave me the idea to make the characters twins (even the fact that Carol is the older twin is based off of Mabel Pines)?
...N.E.A.T's acronym actually accidentally turned up like it is?
...Gizmo was based on the fact that the main character from the movie Robots also kept a flying mechanical pet?
...I used the name Carol because I was thinking about Caroline from Portal 2?
...Newbek gave me the idea to do a game-crossing fanfic?
...Carol's entire personality got no inspiration from anything in my life? I made up everything about personality.
...there's a hint in the prologue that something bad was going to happen? The date is Friday the 13th. Too bad I couldn't put a mirror in for someone to break...
...I had Will keep a pet because my only pet died on the day I got it? It was actually my 10th birthday, too.
...if I hadn't noticed Immortus's signature in the roleplaying section, I might have never written fanfiction on here?
...the fact that Will loves technology is based on me? Though I like working with it, I can't invent stuff. But I did go to Camp Invention a summer or two ago. Two bad they lowered the age minimum and ruined the experience. It's hard to work with machines when you're required to sing "The Camp Invention Cheer." You'd have to pay me to do that again.

Now in what way can I suggest Torrent again. Hmmmm...
Lol. I don't know, but ur a skilled writer. You'll find a way.
I may also be making an rp for this that'll be "based on the fan fiction". All accepted characters will be able to RP along with anyone else who applies after I make it if I make it at all.

Wow, sc, you are writing on like 9001 fanfictions at once, huge respect from my part. I actually came here from your RP and I would kindly ask you to maybe use Marc/Geraldo (both same person as you know ^^) in this story. Remember, the Geraldo species is capable of killing living things in mass quantities, esspecially in low-tech games.

Length: The story is likely to be one of my longest ones yet, reaching an estimated goal of 49 chapters and seven books. 100 chapters, like my good friend Newbek tried to do, is just too hard. However, most of my stories have reached a good twenty. Those were in a series, so it might really reach almost 75 chapters.
So far, 2 chapters have been released.

Place: A beach in Minecraft
Perspective: Will
Some zombies burned in the distance, so I kept my distance.

Place: MacGrath Residence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Place: A beach in Minecraft
Perspective: Will
I noticed some sheep grazing a few minutes later.
