CHAPTER ONE
We’ve been walking for hours… not knowing where to start. You see, we’re on a quest they call it, looking for a place most think don’t even exist. Here’s how it all begin.
I walked into the large meeting house with hopes of new adventures. I thought maybe, oh just maybe I’d have a chance to get a quest. But today, there was something different in the air, something I could smell. I sat down in the closest seat next to the High Council seats. I waited for a good 10 minutes when the first appeared, Frederick Benneth. One of the most strict members. Then came Dennis Shearp, one of the nicer members. The followed the rest, old, saggy, intelligent men. As they were all seated, Frederick started to read.
“Greeting ladies and gentleman. I believe many of you” –He says as he glares down at me- “are here for a quest. Some of you new, some of you old.” –Once again glares down at me- “Now, before we start, Dennis Shearp has something to state.” Frederick then sits down while Dennis gets up.
“Thank you Frederick” Dennis began “I’d like to announce today, that we are going to present one lucky, educated, wise persons to go on an adventure. Now, without further interruption, we will have our first presentation by… Tomas Davis.” He says with a sigh. I shakily walked up the stairs, thoughts racing in my head of the past mistakes I have made. That time I tripped while waking to the pulpit. That time I sneezed right in Frederick’s face. Oh the good times! Finally, I made my way to the pulpit. I took a deep breath, got my papers out, and began.
“Thank you High Council. I think most of you know me, but I’ll introduce myself anyways. I am Tomas Davis, and I am looking for a high adventure to attend to.” I began, I felt like all the eyes were on me. “C’mon I know I can do this” I thought.
“Now, here are some reasons you should pick me. I’m highly qualified, I’ve been working in the coal mines for a good four years, I have nothing to attend to, children or a spouse. I’m a very tough guy as well, I’ve been hit with large rocks everywhere imaginable. I’ve been hit with pickaxes, I’ve swung a pickaxe for a good six hours straight. You name it, I’ve done it down in those mines.” I continued, by this time my whole lower body was shaking.
“Now, I know I cannot offer money, gold, or any valuables to do my quest. But I know I will serve you well. No matter what happens, I will carry out the major goal for whatever this quest needs. I know I will do whatever it takes to prove myself to you, I know I can do this. Now please, have faith in me. Thank you.” I finished, finally I was done. No mistakes, no embarrassing things happened. It was all… over.
“Thank you Tomas, now we will have our next speaker…” Frederick stated. There was only one other person in the audience that wanted a quest. I don’t believe he did better than me. But maybe he did. Dennis got up, with an envelope and I what he was going to announce. I crossed everything possible and listened.
“Thank you for coming out Tom and Dan. You both had excellent requests, but you well know only one may go. So, here are the results. Out of the 7 High Council members three have voted for Dan, and four have voted for Tom. This means, Tomas Davis will go out on a quest. Congratulations Tomas!” Frederick explained. I leaped out of my seat, I wanted to shout with joy, but instead I walked to the back, and shook
hands with Dan.
“Great job” I managed.
“You as well, good luck” He replied back with a hint of jealousy in his voice. I walked up the Council and shook their hands as well.
Today, my life would be changed forever.
Hope you liked it, chapter two coming soon.
