One heart. Four hunger. Three stacks of diamonds. The ComputerCraft floppy disk, containing the code to make Turtles begin crafting IndustrialCraft nukes - the most closely guarded secret of the ICDC (Inter-world Creeper Defense Counsel.)
He was chasing me.
I could still sprint.
My adrenaline seemed to carry me faster than I expected.
I got to my door. Pressure plate wasn't engaging.
No, I had exchanged the pressure plate for a button two days ago. Makes the home more mob-proof.
Mob-proof. A safety measure. An inconvenience that I was willing to take, to give myself a false sense of security.
I slammed the button harder than I should have, in hopes it would break. I heard a crack from my hand.
Pain shot up my forearm.
I dashed through the doorway. I flew past my chests, crafting table and furnaces. I input the password into the ComputerCraft computer. The steel door swung open for a few moments. As I ran past my jukebox, I dropped in a music disc - In hopes that the music would block out the sound of my footsteps. I got to another console. Another clearance code. The door came open. I paused after this door, to catch my breath. I ate an apple and downed a shot of regeneration potion. My superficial wounds began to heal, but the internal damage would require more potion to heal. The infirmary. No, I didn't have the access codes to get in there. Stupid. ICDC's top agent doesn't have the password to get into the hospital.
BLAM.
BLAM.
I whipped around and looked through the small window in the door. He was slowly breaking down the door with a pickaxe. I ran to the next door. I passed through three more chambers, slowly making my way to the mainframe computer.
I input my access code, and triggered the mass wipeout of all system computers. That would preserve sensitive data, but it still left me vulnerable.
I would have to do it.
I started the base destruct countdown timer. 60 seconds.
I dashed to the fallout shelter. The pistons sealed the chamber behind me.
I heard more doors being broken down.
30 seconds.
A computer was smashed.
15 seconds.
I could hear the creature beating on the shelter. I smiled. No way could he dig through it in time.
5 seconds.
I sighed with relief as I heard the self-destruct charges detonate. The walls were lined with obsidian, so no external damage would be obvious. There were no external windows in the facility, though all computer data would be lost. Only the previous week's backup on the ICDC's headquarters mainframe would survive.
I took out my diamond pick and beat through the obsidian walls in the chamber. I placed the disk in a Ender Chest, therefore sending it to Headquarters. I walked through the facility, assesing the damage. The system had performed satisfactorily. There was no door, computer, chest, disk drive, glass pane or even stone block remaining. All I could see was the obsidian lining.
The End
Let me know what you guys think. My first published story. Not as great as it could be, but I thought it was good enough to post.
If you're going to post "this sucks," I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know what I could do better next time.
