Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please feel free to leave a comment telling me how to improve, more ideas, and whatever else. I plan on Getting a new chapter out every Friday.
UPDATE: Sorry I haven't added to this in the past few weeks. Was having computer problems, and I needed a break. I finally got it fixed though, so here's chapter 4!
Prologue
Josh was a boy, of about 13. He wasn't very popular in school, he had but a few friends and was bullied frequently. He wasn't the skinniest, though he was quite tall. He had long hair, down to his shoulders, and black as ink. His life consisted mostly of school, eating, and video games. Enough about him though. This is his story.
Chapter 1:Last day of school, or last day of life.
Today was the last day of school. I should have been happy. I was finally getting away from this nightmare of a school. I was walking with my usual group of friends, Ryan, his twin sister Nicole, and Aaron. Ryan, Aaron, and I were talking about video games and such, when Nicole turned around and said, "Ugh! You guys are such geeks! Why am I forced to walk with you three?" She quickly walked ahead. I turned to Ryan and said, "What's her problem?" He shrugged and we walked in silence. "Well we're here", Aaron said. I sighed and looked into the sky one last time before we went in. What I saw was not so normal. I tapped Ryan on the shoulder and pointed up. There was a meteor, easily bigger than the town, speeding towards us. Aaron yelled,"Run! Quick we gotta get in the basement!" They ran inside, but I couldn't. I was mesmerized by the meteor. I knew it was about to kill everyone, but it was beautiful. I stood there, while they ran to safety. I watched tv shows and movies where people's lives flashed before their eyes before death. Mine didn't though. The meteor hit as soon as this thought crossed my mind.
Chapter 2:The strange new world
I was knocked out for some time. The sun was just setting. I sat up and looked around. I was in a forest, near a cave. Ryan was laying against a tree a few yards away from me. I stood and walked over to him. He didn't seem injured, just tired. I shook him awake. "Wha- what happened?", he asked groggily. "I'm surprised you don't remember being obliterated by a meteor. It'd be something that would stick out in my mind." "Oh shut up. Where are we?" "You expect me to know that? I admit this place is a bit familiar, although I have no idea where I could have seen it before" "Wait where is Nicole? And Aaron?" He sounded scared, which was unusual for him. "I don't know but I'm sure we'll find them." I answered, trying to calm him down. "We should probably find somewhere to spend the night. Can you help me get some branches from the trees?" We each went different ways, breaking sticks off. We piled all the sticks together. I stripped the leaves off of each branch and then made a small shelter, just big enough for the two of us. I crawled inside and he followed. It got dark pretty quickly after that. We heard strange noises outside. Suddenly there was some hissing, followed by an explosion. It blew up our shelter. "We gotta go!" I yelled. He ran into the cave, and I followed behind him a few feet. He was always more athletic than I was. I looked behind us and it was a gruesome sight. There were green looking people in tattered clothing, which I decided must be zombies. There were skeletons which were somehow holding bows and firing at us, I had no idea how. There were spiders, which were making slurping noises. The worst thing was the mutated disgusting green things. They had no arms, but four legs. I turned and kept running. I was dodging arrows while I ran, deeper into the cave. I saw some different looking stone ahead, which had a metal door and some torches on both sides of it. We pounded on the door, until someone opened it and let us in. As soon as we stepped in, we were both knocked out.
Chapter 3: Friend or Foe
When I woke up, I was in a dark damp room, which was illuminated by a single torch. I was in one of four beds, the one next to me was occupied by Ryan, who was still out cold. I sat up slowly, my head still hurting. I stared at the ground for a few minutes, then I decided to wake up Ryan. I turned and shook his shoulder. He opened his eyes ad stared at the ceiling. I could tell he was still injured. I told him that we weren't alone in the cell. He quickly sat up and turned. Who we saw was quite unexpected. I knew we both hoped for it to be Nicole and Aaron, although sadly it wasn't. Who we saw were still familiar though. We saw two of our old friends, Bradley and Chase. They were always good friends, so it makes sense that we'd find them together. i was friends with Chase although I don't really talk to him anymore. I'm pretty sure Brad hates me though. I looked at Ryan. He seemed surprised. "Others must have been taken here too. That meteor was pretty big." I said, trying to reason. Ryan laughed. "You really think some big meteor brought us here? You must be pretty high or something." I sighed. "Should we wake them or not?" "I guess so. The better we come up with an escape plan, the better" I could see Ryan was already plotting, but he was never much of a strategist. I think I'm gonna have to come up with this plan myself. We woke Chase first. "Yo-you guys are here too?" "Yeah. Did you see the meteor?" I responded, hoping he knew a little more. "No. For once I went to school early. I was already inside and then suddenly I was here. Brad and I were quickly thrown in, and were here ever since." "I see. We should wake Brad now." I reached over and shook him awake. He jumped up. "What are you doing here?" Brad sneered. "Listen Brad, I know we don't like each other but we gotta work together to escape this place. I have a plan, a simple one really but it's all I could come up with on such short notice. First, one of us has to act sick. When a guard or someone comes in all we have to do is jump him, take his weapons and armor and then we can see what we can do from there. Ok?" Brad responded, "Oh that's so overdone. I guess that's all we can do then. I call his chestplate." Chase started acting sick. He stuck his finger in his throat and forced himself to puke. The guard came in, and started asking what was wrong. In seconds we jumped on him. I pulled his sword out of it's sheathe and cut his throat. The realization hit me that I just killed another human. "I really did that. Wow. I guess it was necessary" I sighed. I hated this world even more than our old one. I gave the sword to Brad, and he also took the chestplate. Chase took the boots, Ryan took the leggings, and i took the helmet. I also took his bow and his arrows. This was just the beginning of our escape
Chapter 4:The Escape
I told Brad to take the lead, then we started down the corridor. We reached a staircase after a few minutes of walking. "Up or down?" Brad asked. "Up I guess. The entrance we found was in a cave, so I guess it'd make sense." The torches on the walls were different as we went up. Instead of glowing red, they were now like normal torches, or what I'd describe as normal. Eventually, it leveled off, and we came to a door made of iron. "No way out", Ryan sighed. Chase shouted, "Look! A button here!" He pressed it, and the door swung open, for about a second, then slammed shut. "We have to be quick", said Brad. Then he hit the button and dashed through. After we all got through, we were ambushed by some guards, two, actually. "Stop! I knew we should have had someone better than Jim guard the prisoners!" With that, he lunged at Chase, and stabbed him through the stomach. "Chaaase!" Brad yelled, and cut the guards head off with one clean swipe. The other guard charged him, but I quickly dispatched him with an arrow to the eye. We ran over to Chase, who was lying on the ground, bleeding out. I was stunned. He was seriously gonna die. "Go, without me." He somehow managed to cough out, and with that, he stopped breathing. "Goodbye, Chase" I said, as his body disappeared, and his boots landed on the ground where his body used to be. It didn't surprise me that death was different here, then in our world. "Let's get moving" I said, as I took his boots, and put them on. We took the guards armor and weapons, so we each had a full set of iron armor, a sword, a bow, and some arrows. We continued through the wooden door at the other side of the room. We then found the room where Ryan and I had first entered, and had been knocked out. There was a sign next to the door, which said, "Now leaving Opador Outpost" "Weird name." I muttered. "Must be native." Ryan said, as we pulled the lever and ran out into the cave. "What now?" Brad asked, panting from running. "I don't know. Let's get out of this cave first." I said. After about 20 more seconds of running, we came out into the forest where Ryan and I were attacked by those monsters. We stopped running and looked around. It was about mid-day, no monsters. "They must come out at night." I said when I looked at Ryan's confused face. "Ok, so now will you tell me what the plan is?" Brad asked
Chapter 5: What a confusing statement.
I took off my helmet and scratched my head. "Let's examine the situation here, starting with the good things. We have an abundance of weapons and armor. There aren't any monsters. The bad things, are that we have no food, and have no idea where we are, or how to get away from here. Any ideas?" Brad replied "Well, we should probably get away from here before they send people after us. Even if that was an outpost, there's got to be more than just 3 guards." As if on cue, 5 more guards rushed out, three of them were dressed the same as the ones we killed already, the other too were wearing armor made of leather. They carried bows, but the ones in iron didn't, so I guess they were different after all. "Should we fight?" I asked, not sure we could win. "I don't see why not." Brad said, unsheathing his sword. I pulled my bow off my back, and Ryan drew his sword. The three front guards drew their swords, and the archers pulled back their bows. (((( Work in Progress. Still deciding how this battle will paly out. Sorry ))))
